The GM Authority Take
Chevrolet Korea sales posted a healthily, if not slight, increase in February, enabling the bow tie brand to extend its positive trajectory in the South Korean market for another month. In fact, February represents the third consecutive month that Chevrolet has posted sales growth in South Korea, following a 5 percent increase in December 2020 and an 18 percent growth in January. Chevy’s gains in February are particularly remarkable due to the market’s typical slowdown as well as fewer operating days during the country’s holiday season.
Six of the 11 models offered by Chevrolet in South Korea registered sales increases in February, and several posted outstanding three-digit growth rates, both during the month as well as year-to-date. These were the new Trailblazer, Equinox and Labo with significant increases year-over-year. In this fashion, the Trailblazer maintains its position as the brand’s second best-selling model in South Korea, doubling the figures posted in February 2020, when the subcompact crossover recorded its first sales record in that country.
Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Spark joined others in the red columns, registering a decrease of 16.8 percent in February. The performance represents the second double-digit decline of the year. However, the mini car remains Chevrolet’s most popular vehicle in the South Korean market by a considerable margin, both during the month as well as year-to-date.
