Here Are The 2025 Chevy Equinox Towing Capacities

With the arrival of an all-new generation, the 2025 Chevy Equinox is highlighted by an assortment of upgrades to the exterior styling, interior appointments, and safety features. With this in mind, we’re taking a closer look at 2025 Chevy Equinox towing capacities in the following GM Authority breakdown.

Before diving in, here’s the lowdown on the available powertrain configurations. The 2025 Equinox features the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, which is rated at 175 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque in FWD variants, or 203 pound-feet of torque in AWD versions. Notably, this is the same engine found under the hood of the 2024 Equinox.

In regard to transmission options, FWD units are newly equipped with the GM continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), while AWD units boast the GM eight-speed automatic transmission.

Among other towing-related information details worth noting, The General recommends that drivers don’t tow with their Equinox during the first 500 miles (800 kilometers) of vehicle use in order to prevent damage to the engine, axles, or other parts. In addition, drivers are advised to perform an oil change before heavy towing, to not drive over 50 mph (80 km/h), and not make full-throttle starts during the first 500 miles (800 kilometers) of trailer towing. Finally, the Equinox can tow perfectly fine in Drive, but if the driver finds that the transmission downshifts too often for their liking, they can choose a lower gear by using the manual mode.

Finally, there are a number of features and technologies General Motors recommends deactivating prior to pulling a trailer, including:

As a reminder, the 2025 Equinox is underpinned by an updated variant of the GM D2 platform, while production kicked off in May 2024 at GM San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico.

  1. I doubt many new Equinox owners will ever do any towing. I have a 2009 model with the 3.4 L V6 and after 15 years I never needed to tow. I recommend getting a better GM vehicle if towing is needed to do.

  3. Would’ve been better with a 2.0L non turbo high torque motor and the 2.0L turbo.

  6. There’s one thing that the engineers completely FORGOT when re-designing the Equinox for 2025. Although they show a towing capacity, they do not offer a towing package as factory-installed BUT, there is a towing package part number for a dealer-installed option, BUT THE BUMPER HAS NO ACCESS PANEL TO THE HITCH and THERE IS NO ALTERNATE BUMPER TO ORDER.
