The 2024 Chevy Equinox introduces mild changes over the previous model year, before an all-new generation of the Bow Tie’s compact crossover appears next year. With that in mind, here’s a breakdown of 2024 Chevy Equinox towing capacities.
Before diving right in, here’s a rundown of the available drivetrain configurations for the 2024 Equinox. The crossover ‘s single powerplant is the new-for-2023 turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, rated at 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. Notably, this engine replaces the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX gasoline engine, which was rated at 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque and used prior to the 2023 model year.
The sole transmission option is the GM six-speed automatic. Meanwhile, FWD is standard and comes with a 3.50 axle ratio, while AWD is a $1,600 option on all trim levels and spins with a 3.87 axle ratio.
With all of that covered, here’s the full list of 2024 Chevy Equinox towing capacities:
2024 Chevy Equinox Towing Capacities
Model | Drivetrain | Turbo 1.5L I4 LCD | |
---|---|---|---|
Axle Ratio | Max Trailer Weight (lbs / kg) | ||
1LS | FWD | 3.50 | 1,500 / 680 |
1LS | AWD | 3.87 | 1,500 / 680 |
LT | FWD | 3.50 | 1,500 / 680 |
LT | AWD | 3.87 | 1,500 / 680 |
RS | FWD | 3.50 | 1,500 / 680 |
RS | AWD | 3.87 | 1,500 / 680 |
Premier | FWD | 3.50 | 1,500 / 680 |
Premier | AWD | 3.87 | 1,500 / 680 |
Looking over the numbers, we see that 2024 Chevy Equinox towing capacity is listed at 1,500 pounds across the board. This maximum towing capacity comes regardless of drivetrain configuration or axle ratio. Notably, the Equinox is not available with a trailering package like other GM crossovers, trucks and SUVs. However, the compact crossover is equipped with trailering provisions as standard fare.
It’s also worth noting that trailering capacities are unchanged from the 2023 Chevy Equinox.
As a reminder, the Chevy Equinox rides on the GM D2 platform, which it shares with the GMC Terrain and Buick Envision. Production of the 2024 model year officially kicked off in May 2023, and currently takes place at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant and GM San Luis Potosà plant, both of which are in Mexico.

So the new engine has 5 additional horse power and the same torque? Why bother?
I really enjoy my 2020 2.0T equinox I think it’s the worst decision they ever made was dropping the more powerful engine as an option on the equinox. Hopefully 2025 fixes this and Chevy again offers a more powerful engine option because if I only had the option of purchasing the 1.5 liter engine I would shop elsewhere and I am a die-hard GM fan we own a Buick enclave and 2020 equinox 2.0T.
The 1.5T performs well, doesn’t need premium gas, and gets great mileage.
The LSD is not a “new” engine, it’s a slightly modified LYX.
Wife has the 2.0T LTG in her Terrain and, as everyone notes, it’s a much better engine for these vehicles than the 1.5L.
2002tii apparently the next generation 2025 Equinox/Terrain will get the 2.0T back as an option… Fingers crossed 🤞
If the Buick Envision rides on the same platform, why do they import it from the Chi-comms?
Your obviously uninformed comments fit right in.
Hey KoKo, a couple of reasons. One China buys more Buicks than people in the US and if you want to sell your cars in China you need to make some of them there. (It is not a free country). Second, it cost less to make them there then in North America.
I have a 2018 with the 2.0 with the 9 spd and have never put premium into it. It’s recommended but not required and mine has lots of power. I get 30 mpg with the mid grade, tank after tank and it can tow 3,500 lbs. best car I have ever owned.
Ken my 2020 Equinox with the 2.0T is the same I get around 30mpg I do however use super unleaded gasoline only because my mechanic said that it would hurt the fuel injectors over time if I kept using 87 octane gas… But I don’t mind 30mpg with super unleaded is fine with I live in NJ so the premium fuel is not to much more expensive I agree is one of the best cars I ever owned as well. I think a lot more people buy the the 1.5 liter engine because at the time it was the cheapest option on the Equinox/Terrain my friends wife has a 1.5 and she is happy with it. Remember that yes Toyota makes the hybrid RAV4 that’s great and all but it costs north of $50,000 dollars… That’s Blazer, or highlander territory for a RAV4 and much higher priced then even the equinox was with the 2.0T option.
I recently bought a new 2024 equinox . I am a handicapped vet and need a mobility scooter to get around.my previous vehicle was a 2015 equinox.with a hitch mounted lift for my scooter.. to my surprise I found out after buying the new equinox that there is no way to transport a scooter. The Max hitch weight is only 150 lb,and there is no options for a interior lift.so basically my 28008 dollar car is junk to me.
I live in Binghamton NY and purchased the car from Mathews Chevy .any help you can give Me wil be appreciated
