Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)

Buick Enclave sales saw the Tri-Shield brand’s flagship crossover slip a spot from the previous quarter. When ranked by sales volume, it placed fifth in Q2 2024 among nine entries in the premium three-row crossover segment.

The Acura MDX remained at the top, as it has consistently for some time now, in spite of a 13 percent dip to 14,553 units. The first-ever Lexus TX continues to make its presence known at the expense of competitors, keeping second place this quarter with 11,366 deliveries, while the Volvo XC90 (see running Volvo XC90 sales) followed again in third with a six percent downturn to 9,238 units. The Infiniti QX60 moved up to fourth place with an eight percent slip to 7,081 units, while the Enclave (see running Buick Enclave sales) fell a spot to fifth with a 36 percent drop to 5,886 units. Meanwhile, crosstown rival Lincoln Aviator (see running Lincoln Aviator sales) took sixth again in spite of a 90 percent jump to 5,664 units. This time around, we’ve added the Genesis GV80 to this space, with sales up 23 percent for 5,323 deliveries to place seventh. The Cadillac XT6 (see running Cadillac XT6 sales), the Enclave’s corporate cousin, posted a 16 percent slide to 4,439 units for eighth place, while the Audi Q7 (see running Audi Q7 sales) stayed last with a 46 percent dive to 3,687 units.

Combining GM’s two crossovers here, the Buick Enclave and Cadillac XT6, moves The General into third place overall with a cumulative 10,325 deliveries for a 16 percent segment share.

Sales of premium three-row crossovers grew seven percent to 67,237 units during Q2 2024, meaning Enclave sales significantly underperformed the segment average.

The GM Authority Take

Buick Enclave sales slipped some more in Q2 2024, perhaps due to a generational changeover of the all-new 2025 model. The Tri-Shield brand’s flagship crossover faces stiff competition from Acura, Lexus, Volvo, and Infiniti, while Lincoln, Genesis, and Audi are also challenging it. Combining sales of the Enclave with those of the Cadillac XT6 at least put GM in third place overall.

In early July, units of the 2025 Buick Enclave started arriving at dealers. The next-gen model is much needed since the large premium three-row crossover has been one of the oldest entries in its segment.

About Buick Enclave

The 2024 Buick Enclave is the sixth model year of the second-generation crossover, and it has no changes or updates compared to the preceding 2023 model year.

In April, GM unveiled the all-new 2025 Buick Enclave, which features a restyled exterior, larger dimensions, an overhauled cabin, and a 30-inch infotainment screen. Orders will open up later this summer for the third-generation full-size crossover.

The third generation of the premium three-row, full-size crossover also boasts larger dimensions, an overhauled cabin, and a 30-inch ultra-wide infotainment screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with a plethora of safety tech, such as Blind Zone Steering Assist, Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, and Departure Warning, and more.

The 2025 Enclave is the first Buick to offer the GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assistance system, with it available across the lineup.

The 2025 Buick Enclave again offers three trim levels but with notable changes. Joining the carry-over range-topping Avenir variant is a new base model Preferred trim level and the nameplate’s first-ever Sport Touring (ST) trim, replacing what was previously offered as a package on the dropped Essence and Premium trims.

The Preferred is equipped with an AutoSense power liftgate, heated front-row seats, noise cancellation, and 20-inch wheels; the ST offers a 12-speaker audio system, unique interior trim, unique badging, and a unique grille; and the Avenir is equipped with a 16-speaker audio system, 22-inch wheels, heated and ventilated front seats, and a standard Head-Up Display (HUD).

The new sole powertrain is the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine, rated at 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque. Here’s why the 2025 Enclave uses the 2.5L turbo engine instead of a V6. The GM eight-speed automatic transmission is standard, and the GM C1 platform provides the underpinnings.

  1. The first gen Enclave (and its stablemates) had a number of expensive issues through its earlier production year such as timing chain issues and transmission issues, not to mention the less expensive issues like blend doors and power steering pumps. The second gen has major transmission issues (at least in the early years). As these vehicles age, you can see that they are not holding up well just by reading the Enclave forums.

I owned both gens. I will not own a third. Too many good and competitive options out there to give up $50-60k for rapid depreciation and poor long-term reliability.

    1. Oh yeah the new 25 Enclave will surely kill sales with the Beefed up 4cyl and no other engine option not to mention the drive line issues they are already having Wtf GM improve what you have and Stop reinventing the freaking Wheel!!

  4. If you’re spending premium money on a supposed premium vehicle I certainly would not want a four cylinder turdbo! Yes my spelling was intentional.

    1. Problem is and I am going to get alot of hate for this, even other premium brands are going this way. Lexus only offers the RX in a turbo 4 or hybrid now. Even the Germans what used to be the typical V6 models are now turbo 4s. So for Buick being an affordable luxury brand, I can’t bash them for not offering a V6. What they should do however, like Lexus, offer a hybrid in place of the V6.

      1. Very simple, just give the buyers of a 50k plus vehicle Options!!

    2. It’s only a problem for people living in the past.
This has over 300hp from a decent sized 4 cylinder.
      It’s fine.

      1. I have the 2.0L Turbo 4 in my XT5. While its no Tesla Model S Plaid doing 0-60 in under 3 seconds it has better pick up than the Rav4 and its a heavier vehicle. I was concerned that these smaller engines would be strained but that is not the case. The engine operates smoothly and the 9-speed manages the engine power perfectly well. I just don’t think I would tow with it but I have nothing to tow anyways and if I needed to tow something, I’d rather rent a vehicle for that.

  5. Offer the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Chevy Traverse with the option of a 6 cylinder and possibly these models will survive. If that doesn’t happen those pricy 4 cylinder vehicles will go by the wayside. This is the GM Trend do what the executives want and when it fails the products and the jobs go away. Just a fact GM had over 45% of the U.S. market share, now barely 15%! They do not listen to workers or consumers that is why they have EV’s nobody wants. I lived through all this turmoil and it the typical rich person mentality at GM and will never change look at the leadership and their salaries!

  6. Reminder to those complaining about the engine. The 2024 has the V6(and sales were down) It is the new design in 2025 that will have the turbo-4. Back to the original commenting bashing the 2024.

  7. As with the Express van, they’re not selling because there’s NONE TO BUY.

In this area there’s literally less than a dozen on lots in a 100 mile radius. Guessing folks snapped up the V6s knowing the 4 cyl was coming, leaving both a sales hangover and the odd configurations that’ll take rebates to move.

  8. The new turbo 4 cylinder is more powerful than the old V6. That’s not going to be the problem with the next gen Enclave, contrary to all the whining baby boomers.
    It’s those boring, generic looks.

    1. It’s not the power that is the issue. The 4 cyl Turbo is noisy and not nearly as smooth. People that spend money on Luxury and near luxury vehicles expect them to be refined, and the 4cyl Turbo is not such.

  9. I like this generation of Enclave, but after seeing the new upcoming model, I’d say its worth the wait. But I won’t buy the first year. That’s a general rule I live by.

  10. @LostMe

Not even remotely true, and I wish this narrative would just die.

Yes, the early Lambda platform vehicles (’07-’12) had some major issues (timing chain, transmission wave plates, engine mounts, ECM/TCM, A-pillar water intrusion), but all of these were fixed by the ’13-’14 mid-cycle refreshes. Most before then.

The timing chains and wave plates were no longer an issue by 2010, 2011 tops (both supplier issues with bad designs BTW), which GM did 10 year extended coverages on both defects. The 6T75 was improved, including a redesigned valve body for 2013. Almost ALL of the issues were solved and flaws engineered out, other than perhaps the ’13-’17’s are still prone to eventual AC repairs. Mechanically though, a well-maintained ’13-’17 Lambda platform will do just as good as other vehicles on the road.

The C1 platform brought a number of improvements (2018 ). Those vehicles are very reliable — I’m not sure what you’re talking about.

So sick of these nameplates being thrown under the bus for the initial bad run. Yes, ’07-’12 sucked, but this really is an instance where GM went back to the drawing board and fixed their mistakes. Keep in mind that when the ’07 Acadia and Outlook launched, they basically created a new class of vehicle, which had teething problems.

157,000 miles on my 2014 Acadia — still going strong — and I even pulled a ~4,000 lb camper with it for three years.

    1. There is truth in everything I said. My ’11 had every issue mentioned except the timing chain. My ’18 Avenir has had many problems starting with a broken exhaust hanger after a few thousand miles (that the dealer tried to blame on me even after showing him the TSB), to a cracked block/engine replacement under warranty, to a failing garbage nine-speed transmission that gm refused to replace until I got an attorney involved.

I was a life-long, GM-only owner until this last sh!t-show. gm only cares about cranking out vehicles, not customer satisfaction or long term reliability.

As far as depreciation… Run a simple test on an ’18 Avenir vs an ’18 RX 350 and see what the depreciation tells you.

  12. What’s the price hike on a ‘25 Avenir compared to a ‘24? Was gonna buy a Malibu for travelling to work but decided to keep my 2006 Impala with approximately 100,000 miles. It’s been paid for for eons now and my new insurance quote I received last week is $448 a year! I think a lot of people are just pulling the purse strings tight and saying, “F$@K IT, I can make do with what I got. People are deciding not to drive around in a rolling mortgage payment.
