Certain affected units of the 2024 GMC Yukon and the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 are included in two recently issued GM customer satisfaction programs describing a fix for vehicles that may experience battery drain after an over-the-air (OTA) update.
Similar to a recent 2023 Chevy Colorado problem that resulted in low or drained battery power from an OTA update incorrectly activating the infotainment system, Customer Satisfaction Program numbers N242435630 and N242435631 apply to the 2024 GMC Yukon, the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 and several other models.
Only a small number of 2024 GMC Yukon and Sierra 1500 units are involved in the program, with most still in inventory or in transit to dealers. Any affected GMC Yukon SUVs and Sierra 1500 pickups in dealership stock must be repaired before they are sold, delivered, used in a demonstration, or traded to other dealers. Dealers are also to provide the fix, free of charge, to Yukon units currently owned by customers.
If the VIN list provided by The General indicates an affected 2024 GMC Yukon or Sierra 1500 has been sold, the owner must be notified by mail of the issue and the available fix. The customer satisfaction programs will remain available until August 31st, 2026.
Reprogramming the serial data gateway module of the affected 2024 GMC Yukon or Sierra 1500 will correct the issue and prevent future battery drain after over-the-air updates. No new components are required to complete the remedy. Customers may be supplied with courtesy transportation if this is necessary while the fix is applied.
As a reminder, three powerplants are cradled under the hood for motivation, including the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine providing output of 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine developing 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The GM 10-speed automatic transmission is mated to all engines.
The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is equipped with either the TurboMax turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B engine churning out 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 engine with 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 engine developing 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque or the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine that generates 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. The TurboMax engine is mated to the GM 8-speed automatic transmission, while the the three other powerplants are managed by the GM 10-speed automatic.
The 2024 Yukon is the final model year of the Big Red sport-utility before the mid-cycle refresh debuts with the 2025 GMC Yukon. The SUV continues to be underpinned by the GM T1 platform, with production taking place at the GM Arlington plant in Texas. Meanwhile, the Sierra 1500 is built at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and the GM Silao plant in Mexico.

The 2024-5 Gmc/ Chev ,Yukon Suburban chassis is a disaster for off roading and realiability. The trailing strut in the rear suspension is 3in from the ground .This will not work.. This a truck not a foreign SUV. Raise the road clearance to pre 2024 height on the suburban/ Yukon or their glory days are over! Ford and Toyota will rule…PK GMC suburban XL owner since 1963!
The chassis is a disaster or one component that hangs down as low as a Land Rover/Range Rover who is the pinnacle of off roading is the same is your complaint?
Do you know how many takes these off road? Low single digit of a percent, and even then it isn’t anything hard enough to cause issues with that trailing strut. Plenty of off road videos have shown that. Your statement is just plain false. The advantages of the new IRS setup easily out weigh a single lower hanging component that doesn’t interfere with people leaving the pavement in reality. It added a ton more room and a much better ride which is far more important to 99.98% of the buyers of these vehicles. Read the room, their sales are strong even with added competition.
I could care less about off-roading. I want a comfortable ride and room for my 3rd row occupants. I wouldn’t have bought the Yukon XL if it still had the solid rear axle and was just as uncomfortable in the 3rd row as the previous generations. GM won my business by putting in the “disaster” IRS as you call it. The diesel powertrain also won me over.
I bought my Yukon for comfort and off-road capability. As a result, I paid extra for 4-wheel drive in my Yukon, only to discover the trailing strut in the rear suspension is 3in from the ground! Give me a break GMC! I will not by another Yukon for my family!
