GM Lansing Delta Township Plant Production Idled

Following the transition into the 2024 calendar year, several General Motors facilities across the United States had an extra week of downtime for various maintenance projects. Now, it appears as though production at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan has been paused again, albeit for a different reason.

According to a report from Automotive News, the Lansing facility has been idled for a supply chain-related issue. Effective as of February 23rd, 2024 and affecting 2,300 employees on two shifts, The General didn’t reveal when production would resume.

In a statement, a GM spokesperson remarked that the Lansing plant “will pause production due to a temporary supply-chain issue and will restart as soon as possible.”

It’s worth noting that there are no other North American GM facilities experiencing idleness due specifically to supply problems. In addition, the Detroit-based automaker didn’t provide any details on the specifics surrounding the supply issue.

Second-Generation Chevy Traverse

As a reminder, the Lansing Delta Township facility is responsible for production of Chevy Traverse and Buick Enclave, but also the all-new 2024 GMC Acadia that debuted in September 2023, of which production hasn’t started yet. The previous-generation Acadia was built at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.

With the introduction of the third-generation of the Acadia, Big Red’s crossover will make the transition to the Lansing facility to be produced alongside the Traverse and Enclave. Production is currently scheduled to commence in March 2024, although that date may change.

That being said, production of the third-generation 2024 Chevy Traverse was scheduled to kick off in February 2024. However, this revised start of regular production (SORP) came and went, as General Motors has now pushed the production start to an as-of-yet undisclosed date. As such, production of the 2024 Chevy Traverse Limited, which serves as a stop-gap between the outgoing model and the upcoming next-generation, appears to have been extended beyond January 2024.

  1. inept management still blaming the “supply chain” in 2024. That “early 2024” launch of the Traverse and Acadia looking unlikely. The question is will they change it to a model year 2025.

  3. In my opinion, GM is halting production of certain models, not due to supply chain issues, but to an over supply of inventory sitting on dealers lots.

  4. They should ask their dealers if there are no parts supply chain issues!

  5. Lots of opinions and very few facts. But there aren’t many vehicles in awaiting shipment.

  6. It’s a regulatory issue that is preventing GM from delivering cars to dealers. They are sitting in lots, waiting for GM to fix the issue. This excuse is a lie.

  7. Currently drive the 2023 Buick Enclave Essence. I purchased the vehicle because I loved the styling and the super quiet ride. The new 2025 Enclave looks nothing like the more distinct 2023/2024 model. GM is restyling vehicles across the lineup and will loose new customers. Stalling production at the assembly line is probably a cost cutting issue until GM can come to there senses and give the consumer something they want to drive. Never buying another GM vehicle .

  8. I am beginning to give up hope on getting the new 2024 Traverse LT2 I pre ordered in February. MY LEASE IS UP and I refuse to buy the model that’s going out. My deposit is on the new traverse. Unfortunately I’m about to be car less soon. I wound absolutely think we all deserve a 2025 when they do get to working on it! But.. again I held out for a year waiting on this Traverse and my clock is up on my extended lease! Will GM give me a loner? I doubt it.
