Before GM Authority revealed that the 2024 model year would feature both a Traverse Limited and an all-new Traverse, we announced that the 2024 Chevy Traverse would begin production in December 2023. Now, The General has given the next generation of the Bow Tie brand’s three-row crossover a revised production start.
GM Authority has learned from sources familiar with the matter that the start of regular production (SORP) of the third-generation 2024 Traverse is now officially scheduled to kick off on February 12th, 2024.
With that in mind, production of the 2023 Traverse concluded on December 15th, 2023, while the carryover 2024 Traverse Limited has already started production. As of the time of this writing, Chevy Traverse Limited production is scheduled to end on January 18th, 2024.
As a reminder, the next-gen 2024 Traverse is all-new, and features a new exterior look with Chevy’s “High Brow” design theme, along with a truck-inspired front fascia with dual-tier headlights. Additional design elements include forward-leaning C-pillars and bright chrome quad exhaust tips.
Meanwhile, the cabin is highlighted by the 17.7-inch diagonal color infotainment touchscreen, which is equipped as standard affair across the entire trim lineup. The new cockpit also features a redesigned steering wheel, as well as more interior space overall, improved ergonomics, new colorways, and higher-quality materials.
Under the hood lies the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine, which produces a GM-rated 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque. The GM eight-speed automatic transmission stands as the sole transmission option, while FWD is equipped as standard and AWD is optional.
In regard to structure, the 2024 Traverse rides on a revised version of the long-wheelbase variant of the GM C1 platform, which now incorporates upgrades like the Global B digital architecture. Production will take place at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan.

GM your dropping the ball these SUV are so far behind already and you keep pushing them back! When they do finally come out they arent even mid or top of the class. Come on still waiting for Acadia Denali hoping its worth it
Did you kinda miss the whole UAW strike thing Mike? The Lansing plant was shut down for two months and you don’t just walk in and flip on the light switch, boom back to full swing.
Production pushed back to March….and who knows if Denali will be readily available. You might be waiting a while for sure. But it begs the question, if they’re not even ‘mid of the class’ when they come out, then why on earth are you waiting for one?
How about orders? Do we know when my local Chevy Dealer can begin inputting orders?
They can already.
Hmmm, not according to my dealer???
They may not have been allocated one yet, but they can indeed save an order as preliminary (1100 status) – which is what you typically do when you input a sold order and have not received an allocated unit for it. I have one in event code 3000 (accepted by production), new body style 1LB56 (1LT) with black Evotex interior. If you’re talking to a salesperson, they are typically very unaware of the ordering process. I’d speak with their inventory manager, or whoever inputs all their orders, both sold and inventory
We’re trying to order an RS and there are constraints that don’t let our dealer finish the build. They were hoping they’d pick up an allocation today or tomorrow and they can get it in. This would be their first ‘24 order.
There was only on allocation cycle in December, and it already happened. So you won’t be allocated one in December. Additionally there is only one cycle in January. Did they tell you what the option was that wouldn’t let them save it as 1100?
I’m trying to order an RS also. Not available for pre-order yet.
I asked about the RS and they said they are only taking orders for the cheapest traverse options.
So when can we expect the Traverse (RS) to hit the dealer’s show rooms? Would definitely like to drive one before purchasing.
Last week the national constraint quantity was 434….amongst all Chevy stores nationwide. Production is I believe the second half of January. So you might see some trickle in maybe around March. But, don’t be surprised if most are either sold orders or sold prior to arrival. Driving one might be a challenge.
Just one question,,,does it have an automatic start/stop button??
Or do I have to short cut it under the hood again! .?? Yes that works!
We are not going to deviate from that strategy. We’ve listened to our customers and the all-new Traverse is a mid-size SUV filled with possibilities and offers you and your family more of what you love.
Brother Evan has been brought to the light by our one and true leader king. Brothers in the folk nation protect him with your life. He holds the 2nd chair. He is our leader respect for his word holds the the truth of our godfather king we shall carry his name forever in our nation

Jeff, once Traverse production is in full swing how many units are produced in a avg work week and are the same number of vehicles shipped that are produced or is there a shipping lag on completed vehicles. My wife has asked Santa for a 2024 Traverse High Country or loaded RS, I suggested a similar looking & equipped Colorado Crew Cab and bed cover for her to get sooner but feared the couch might be a option after the glare I rec’d, as she loves her Traverses. Our family has become young adults and she still insists on a mid-size 3-row crossover. Just glad she is still loyal with the General, we both grew up in GM families and know no other way of life. Think the hybrid Tahoe will ever make a return, I love my Tahoes but really impressed with the Colorado and Canyon products. Chevy did a better job than GMC with the truck. Neighbor got a new AT4 Canyon and I just shook my head. Chevrolet has a superior look.
At it’s peak (around 2019) they were probably pumping out around 150k Traverses in a year (just an educated guess). The problem won’t necessarily be the volume of total units, but volume of specific trim levels. Same issue exists with Tahoe – it’s why you see many more LT trim levels on the road than RST or Z71. Or for GMC AT4 has constantly been at a low volume constraint (maybe 15% or less at times). RS and Z71 will probably end up having a long waiting line, I’m guessing.
Also side note – if your wife wants the new body style Traverse (some 24 MY will be carryover), then High Country is not an option at this point as the trim level does not exist.
Not sure that I would trust Chevy and GM to produce a quality, long lasting product. I had a 2012 Chevy Equinox and it started burning oil without smoke in the exhaust or oil stains under the engine. It got so bad that it was going through a quart of oil per week. It finally died and I bought a Nissan Rogue. I will stick with the Japanese Toyotas, Nissans an Hondas in the future. Service at the Korean guys stinks and American companies just don’t have the quality that I want.
Is the black/redline interior the ONLY option for z71??
From what I can tell, the black/redline is the only option for the Z71 as well as the RS.
Any update on when the Redline version will be ready? Lease is up in March and looking to stick with the new Traverse RS.
I’ve spoken to 2 dealerships which have told me they were offered two of the newer Traverses from Chevy, a Z71 and an RS. Chevy said production starts on the new 2024 design models either tomorrow or next week. I was able to have one dealership set aside one of the new RS models for me. They couldn’t tell me when the production of the RS would begin, but it’s either this month or next month. Note that the “2024 Limited” versions are really 2023s with the old design with some tiny tweeks, so those won’t include the 17″ screen. I gather that the production on the Limited models wrapped up this week. Note that neither of the two local dealers don’t seem to be budging off the list price (around $55k loaded for the RS), due to an anticipated higher demand.
We have a 2011 Traverse and 2020 Traverse and to us they are the perfect cars. Our 2020 has the bench second row seat that our golden retriever loves. Do you know if we will be able to order a new one with the second row bench seat or are all captain chairs? Also do we need to get the lowest trim line for the bench? We would really like the safety alerts on the side and rear which didn’t come on out 2020.
Thanks
Im hearing new model will be larger. Any information on interior leg and headroom. Im 6’5′ and need info. Thanks
Any information on when 3rd gen traverse will be available to order? Production kicked off Feb 12 why can’t my local dealer order a traverse?
Did production actually start this week? Last week my dealer said he already had one on order but it was sold. He hadn’t ordered an Acadia yet but saw it in the system.
Hoping to get either the 24 Traverse z71 or the GMC Acadia AT4 – both are new body styles this year. Any updates on when they will be in dealerships? Hoping they look like a smaller version of the Yukon/Tahoe and less like a minivan/wagon/crossover. 😀
I have ordered an 2024 Traverse (1LB56) with enhanced convenience package , a loaded LT2, when will production actually start it has been pushed out twice now that I am aware of. What will be the Walt time be once production does start.
Will the LT2 have memory seats as part of the convenience package?
