Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Wins Car And Driver 2024 10Best Award

Initially breaking cover in January of 2021 for the 2022 model year, the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing reigns supreme as the top-performing ICE-based sedan in Cadillac’s vehicle lineup, offering up a heap of supercharged performance, plus plenty of head-turning Caddy style. As such, it should come as no surprise that the CT5-V Blackwing is the object of desire for quite a few enthusiasts. Now, the super sedan has secured a spot on the Car and Driver 10Best for 2024 list.

As it turns out, 2024 marks the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing’s third appearance on the Car and Driver 10Best list, fending off rivals with an intoxicating blend of go-fast prowess and opulence.

The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing slides on the track in a cloud of tire smoke.

Of course, the star of the show has to be the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine under the hood. Rated at 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque, Car and Driver says the V8 “[imitates] a Spanish galleon’s cannon fire through the tailpipes,” adding that “the CT5-V Blackwing is like bringing a thermonuclear device to a knife fight.”

The performance doesn’t end with the engine, either, with the publication saying that the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing offers impressive traction and stability – so much, in fact, the editors “wonder whether Cadillac hid a tiny wizard onboard.” The standard six-speed manual transmission was also highlighted (the GM 10-speed automatic is optional), especially when considering the Caddy is alone in its segment when it comes to offering a three-pedal setup.

Car and Driver goes on to praise the standard magnetorheological dampers as offering “soothing ride comfort in their most pliant setting.” That said, the publication was more critical of the sedan’s interior, referring to it as “Chevy Malibu-plus,” declaring that the cabin fails to “look luxurious or sporty.”

Nevertheless, the publication was mighty impressed with the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, saying that “short of traversing an open ocean, there isn’t much [it] can’t do.”

As a reminder, the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing rides on the GM Alpha 2 platform, and is produced at the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan.
