This Is The 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing

GM has pulled the sheets on the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, debuting a supercharged monster with enough muscle to push the luxury four-door to 200 mph.

The new Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing makes its case with updated exterior styling that includes wind-tunnel-tested aero upgrades. The front end, splitter, rear spoiler, rear valence, and “underwing” help to keep the CT5-V Blackwing glued to the pavement, while also making it stand out from the rest of the CT5 lineup. Wheel sizing is set at 19 inches at all four corners, with a 10-inch width in front, and 11-inch width in the rear.

Under those rollers, you’ll find a track-capable Brembo brake package with 15.7-inch rotors in front and 14.7-inch rotors in the rear, clamped by six-pot calipers and four-pot calipers, respectively. The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing also offers a lightweight carbon-ceramic brake package.

Keeping it all shiny side up is Magnetic Ride Control 4.0, with stiffer spring rates, higher-rate bushings, and hollow stabilizer bars.

Making the go is the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gas engine, the same lump-o-go previously equipped by the third-generation Cadillac CTS-V. This time around, the LT4 produces 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque, which catapults the four-door to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds.

Routing the output rearwards is a standard six-speed manual transmission, while a 10-speed automatic is also on the table.

No doubt about it, the CT5-V Blackwing is impressive when it comes to performance, but it’s also comfortable, with three levels of interior appointment to choose from. A 15-speaker AKG stereo is standard, while a high-performance semi-aniline leather front seat setup with lightweight carbon fiber backs, heating, and ventilation is offered. Instrumentation includes a standard 12-inch HD configurable instrument cluster.

We’ll have plenty more to say about the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing in the near future, so stay tuned. In the meantime, subscribe to GM Authority for more Cadillac CT5 news, Cadillac news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

  1. 650+ hp and only 3.7 sec? Only 0.1 sec faster than the ct4? Looooooooooooooool

So it won’t be the fastest in its segment… plus it gonna get poor interior.
    Goodbye Cadi c rap.

  2. Looks amazing, hoped for awd but I think rwd will be more fun! Style is kinda understated and subtle but I prefer it that way. Also love the addition of AKG! Cadillac did an amazing job, can’t wait to hear the exhaust on both this and the CT4V Blackwing.

    1. Let’s put this into perspective here.

What you have with the CT5-V Blackwing is not only the most powerful vehicle Cadillac has ever built, not only an absolutely mind-boggling performance value, not only a RWD sedan powered by a freakin’ 670 hp supercharged V8…it will also be the world’s very last V8-powered, manual transmission-equipped sedan. The last one, ever. This is it.

Think of the countless V8-powered, manual tranny sedans over the last 5, 6, 7 decades. This one is the plateau; it’s the last one. Talk about one hell of a sendoff.

      Reply
      1. Exactly, It is the last one and an incredible one at that.

      2. G8,
It might be the last v8 luxury sedan 6 speed manual but would it be more desirable with a quicker DSG?

Has the weight numbers been releases yet?

        1. @Bob White

Nah, I don’t think so. Everyone is putting out automatic super sedans, but no one gives you the thrill and involvement of a manual. If you absolutely must have the slushbox, Cadillac gives you the 10 speed as an option. The 10 speed has been documented as being nearly as good as a DCT anyway, so Caddy really doesn’t need one.

Not sure on the weight…it might be up on Cadillac’s website.

    2. It’s almost perfect, galore of tech, luxury and and performance at that price? it’s insane! Already handsome car got decked up while still keeping it clean and not getting cluttered; sporty mesh very open grill for cooling and added aggressiveness, striking front spoiler, functional side air inlets and fender outlets, under body panels to lower drag, 18 way adjustable carbon fiber bucket seats with gorgeous design and alcantara covered back, massive ventilated disk calibers, optional carbon ceramic disks straight out of hypercar world, nice carbon fiber covered sport steering wheel and console, and i loved that key mount, widest tires available which is frickin awesome, and an attractive rear spoiler to create efficient downforce.

Not to mention comes with 667 hp. at least 50 HP more than BMW M5’s top of line, the most expensive model. To me only negative is the their decision to keep those trapezoidal exhaust outlets which are not suit the car’s aggressiveness imo. But hey , be reasonable; the best of things will have these sorts of flaws! It’s easiest and less costly thing to replace in a car. I gave this baby A+.

Let’s look at its competition BMW M5 CS start at laughable 143K classic German scheme charge extra for every item, even essentials are optional, you basically get a Hyundai Accent for base price.

      1. Even GM went the extra mile and gave you “the big one” , your precious manual!! So I don’t want to hear any more excuse from the gearheads about how they would love to buy the car if only had a manual!!

To me this is hands down the most handsome current mass production four door car out there. Gayish german cars can’t even hold a candle to this macho.

      2. Imports can’t compete with Caddy!

  3. I like the clean, subtle but muscular looks. It’s very appropriately designed for a Cadillac.

I’d prefer an actual Blackwing 4.2 but I applaud Cadillac for not going the overwrought route design-wise unlike some of the latest M cars from BMW that lack such restraint.

    1. Yes but I hope they offer a hood scoop as an option. I think it looked really good on the CTS and ATS.

  4. Seems like incremental improvements to the CTS-V, but not as revolutionary as what many of us would have hoped.
6sp manual might be the biggest news.
    Carbon ceramic brakes are competitive.
    Good tech refresh (no CUE).
    It hits $110K fully optioned.
At $85K base price, it’s well above the M3 but below the M5. It won’t compete well with the M5 which sits at about ~$115K well equipped, so the positioning might be a bit awkward.

    Reply
    1. Actually, the M5 won’t compete well with IT.

In “base” form, the M5 costs over $100k. It has 600 hp. The Blackwing 5er starts at $85k with 70 more hp than the M5.

Caddy gives you MagneRide, the best suspension in the business by a mile. No one argues otherwise. With classic Alpha platform chassis tuning and RWD, the Cadillac will be the driver’s car the bloated, tech-laden M5 can never be, and hasn’t been in nearly 20 years. AWD, lots of fancy tech nannies to maximize track times…but the CT%-V Blackwing will have RWD, neutral, balanced, NATURAL handling and a proper manual.

The superior driver’s car, and it’s not even close.

      Reply
      1. You make a good case.

I really enjoy my manual CTS-V(2), except when Teslas blast by me at the stoplight like I’m standing still. Not that I ever care to engage on public roads, mind you — but front-engine RWD cars just can’t put the power down as well.

If you downplay the numbers and play up RWD, neutral, balanced, NATURAL handling and a proper manual, then a Mata is a pretty smart choice. But alas, everyone wants the speed for $100K+.

      2. M5 looks better, it’s bigger. It will be faster and more comfortable. I don’t like m5’s interior but it looks more expensive than this bs. U can get rwd or awd at the same time..
This ct5 is like a hellcat that loses to everything because of its useless power.
So what we got: old engine, fugly interior and exterior.
3.7 is a joke for this power. New 340 can do that.

        2. Ah, there it is. Hidden within the words of wisdom from Italian is the choice of car: BMW. No wonder he/she makes such ignorant comments on here. They have the BMW attitude of being better than everyone else.

I drive a lot of miles around the entire LA (California, not Louisiana) area. Guess which brand of car I see driving in the most aggressive and stupid way? You got it. BMW’s and the wienies driving them with so much to “prove”.

  5. IDK, I think it competes very well with an M5. other than AWD launch bragging rights I bet the CT5-V Blackwing is the better driver’s car. I would love for someone to pay me to find out.

    1. For the price, I’d compare this with the M5 Competition, E63S, Tesla Model S Plaid, Taycan 4S, Audi RS7, etc.

I somehow expected this to compete with the M3, C63 &Alfa Giulia, but I guess that’s the CT4-V Blackwing

  8. 3rd gen ctsv couldn’t put all that power down, and neither will this without awd!! Also not enough visible differentiation between this and lower trimmed models, as the sport and lower v model look almost identical. For this price it needs to look better than the sport model.

  9. So does this mean that the Camaro ZL1’s LT4 will see the same upgrades? If so the 2022 Camaro ZL1 might be my next vehicle. Can someone give me 100K so that I can get a ZL1 and CT4-V Blackwing. Pretty Please!

You know what stinks? Buying a new car for $110k and then watching a 3 or 4 year old M5 or E63 show you their taillights from a stoplight. Looks like I’m keeping my V3 until I switch brands.

  12. I don’t think a hood scoop would look very good , kind of like lipstick on a pig . But a functional vented hood for heat extraction would look okay , I would imagine the engineers have done their home work , you’ve got to love the manual transmission , thank you Mr. Roma and Mr. Vivian for all of your support in this project , because if it wasn’t for gearheads like you we would have boring cars . I hope CADILLAC will offer the V LABS @ DAYTONA and COTA again , the advanced group was especially fun with Johnny O’Connell . Hopefully the “CAR” Mr. Roma is working on now will be just as exciting .

  13. I love the new CT4 CT5 I think they are one of nicest looking sedans out there

Just beautiful/ the performance and handling will sure to excite anyone who drive them.

MY only complaint about Cadillac lately is some of the names of their new models coming out, the IQ stuff

Other than that I think Cadillac is doing a good job.

  15. Italian, you need to go back to highschool and study basic Physics and vehicle dynamics. The McLaren costs 3 times more, has 710HP and it does the 0-60 in 2.7 seconds.
The Bugatti Chiron makes the 0-60 in 2.3.
But despite the 1,500HP and a price of 3 million bucks you only get 0.4 seconds faster than a car that costs 9 times less.
Drag, wind speed, aerodynamics, roll friction and weight all play a factor.

So please do not write non sense statements. You look so silly.

  16. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and details and presence are not always noticed in pics, so perhaps my opinion will change. From what I see though, there was something off about the ct4-v that the blackwing took care of. The ct5-v however is perfect and I prefer it’s exterior asthetics to the blackwing, except the wheels.

  17. Very much considering this as it’s getting more difficult to fit my growing boys (11 and 9) in my 2019 ZL1. Same engine with a little more power, 4 doors, etc.

  18. Cadillac needs to go back to their roots where they built American luxury cars for Americans. They were successful building those cars, when they decided to compete with Germany and the BMWs and Mercedes is when they started having problems. Of course they have proved one thing, by competing with those two brands when something goes wrong it’s going to cost you a lot of money.

    Reply
    1. Bob: I very much agree. But there is no reason why Cadillac can’t offer the cars like this and the more traditional luxury models too. They are always talking about their “Y” strategy, so they need to make even more of a difference between the “luxury” and “Sport” models.

      Reply
      1. Yeah I think Cadillac does need to revisit some of their trim prices and options… Like the 2.7t can be had in the premium ct4 for 41k, but the Vsport has the 2.0t for equal or more money… That weird to me… I’d take the 2.7t premium all day.

        Reply
        1. I agree about the trims, regarding the useless Sport trim, in both CT4/CT5, which
doesn’t have a engine upgrade. It looks sporty, but doesn’t back it up with any
sporty driving. I have a custom ordered CT4V with medium options at $52k, while
my dealer has loaded CT4 Sports at $60k, that have less cornering and a lot less
power with the 2.0. CT5 Sport has a similar situation.
