Here Is The 2024 Chevy Traverse

GM has officially unveiled the 2024 Chevy Traverse, pulling the sheets on the first model year of the crossover’s all-new third generation. It arrives just two years after the second-gen’s delayed mid-cycle refresh launched with the 2022 Chevy Traverse.

Notably, the all-new 2024 Chevy Traverse is the vanguard of a trio of next-gen, full-size crossovers being launched by GM, with the next-gen GMC Acadia soon to follow and the next-gen Buick Enclave scheduled to be the third to launch.

Featuring Chevy’s “High Brow” design language, the 2024 Chevy Traverse meets the world with a tough, truck-inspired front fascia illuminating the road ahead with a dual-tier headlight configuration. The new design elements and body panel sculpturing create what GM describes as “a rugged, ready-for-anything presence.”

Among new exterior aesthetic features are a more aggressive, planted stance, forward-leaning C-pillars, 22-inch gloss black wheels for the range-topping RS trim, and, at the rear, bright chrome quad exhaust tips equipped as standard on the true dual-exhaust system.

Four trim levels are available for the 2024 Chevy Traverse, including LS, LT, Z71, and RS. As GM Authority was first to report, the formerly range-topping High Country trim has been dropped from the lineup, and so has the Premier. Meanwhile, the 2024 model year sees the addition of the off-road focused Z71 trim, as we exclusively reported in May.

The star feature of the crossover’s fully overhauled cabin is the “best-in-class” 17.7-inch diagonal color infotainment touchscreen equipped as standard across all trim levels. The cockpit sports a redesigned steering wheel while the interior overall gets more space, improved ergonomics, new colorways, and higher-quality materials.

The 2024 Chevy Traverse offers seating for seven or eight passengers depending on trim level and 98 cubic feet of cargo space with all rear seating rows folded down.

Available GM Super Cruise now joins the technology list for the 2024 Chevy Traverse. The third-generation crossover is also equipped as standard with the Chevy Safety Assist package (RPO code PED) with the following included content (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):

The 2024 Traverse also gets Rear Park Assist (RPO code UD7) and a range of other safety technologies and features. GM includes an updated version of its Buckle to Drive feature as standard on all trim levels, which prevents the vehicle from driving unless the front passenger is buckled in. The crossover also gets Rear Seat Belt Reminder for the second and third seating rows as a new feature for the 2024 model year.

2024 Chevy Traverse Z71

When it comes to motivation, the 2024 Chevy Traverse offers a single powertrain choice,  the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine developing 315 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, a 19 percent boost in torque compared to the outgoing 3.6L V6 LFY engine. The maximum trailering rating for the new Traverse is 5,000 pounds or 2,268 kilograms, same as with the previous generation.

An eight-speed automatic transmission connects this engine to the crossover’s drivetrain rather than the previously expected GM nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on the 2024 Traverse and all-wheel drive is available as an option, with Chevy offering a Z71-exclusive “off-road-capable” twin-clutch AWD system.

Under the body panels, the 2024 Chevy Traverse is supported by the long-wheelbase variant of the GM C1 platform. The platform has received several upgrades, including the addition of the Global B digital architecture, for the freshly revealed generation.

Production of the vehicle is expected to kick off late in December 2023, with the new third-generation Traverse set to roll off the assembly line at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan.

  1. No V6, no deal.

    1. And when the cars went from V8 to V6, all the old heads said the same thing. Power is power. The first space shuttle had a computer with less memory than a standard smart phone and it weighed over 3000 pounds! Just because it can be done more efficiently doesnt mean its worse.

      Reply
      1. But power is power. And the v6 had the power to go past 200k without losing power

        Reply
        1. What evidence do you have that substantiates your claim that the 2.5L Turbo wont do 200k? We service the 2.0L with over 200k on a fairly regular basis. The 2.5 is almost identical except for the larger bore and stroke.

          1. Isn’t the 2.5 more like the 2.7T? That was my assumption

            1. I’m pretty sure their latest 2.0t, 2.7t, and now the 2.5t are all built with the same core design and manufacturing processes. It simplifies their engine development and helps reach emission requirements.

          3. The point is that we know the 3.6 will go 200k+, with good mileage and performance. Its remarkable how GM managed to butch up and castrate a vehicle at the same time.

Welcome to the new World of automakers scrambling to keep offering smaller and smaller displacement engines to keep ICE alive for as long as possible.
Engines will keep getting smaller and smaller and smaller. It is the only way the Automakers will be able to keep offering ICE vehicles. Who would have ever thought people would be willing to fork over their hard earned money for a 3 Cylinder vehicle in the USA.

      1. Not so at all. GM went out specifically and said they were looking to maintain large displacement engines on tap. Hence the 6.6 L8T and next gen V8’s. The new “tripower” family of small engines is a cost cutting, not efficiency move. They took the ecotec engine which was already one of the cheapest and most reliable engine lines out there, added a turbo, boom. Second life to a 25 year old design. They havent saved fuel, but compared to the V6, streamlines production. They might not be long for this world either depending on if the 6th gen small blocks include a new 4.3.

The GM V8 will be fine for a while. They use that engine in their Bread and Butter Trucks and SUV’s

          Reply
          1. My point is the GM V8 is currently an older dog still winning most fights agains these “new” huffing puffing little turbos, and the next gen will solidify their dominance. My point is GM powertrain years ago openly stated they are not looking to small high strung engines as their bread and butter. The 2.7/2.5 exists as a replacement of 4 engines; the 3.6/2.5/2.8 diesel and the 4.3. Its a cost cutting engine, not a wonder engine. Barely in the same class as the 3.6 and 4.3 it’s replacing in terms of efficiency/refinement, but massive costs benefits.

Ditto with the 2.0/1.5 turbo which are actually global engines replacing multiple engines worldwide.

I just hope the new engine will actually improve the fuel consumption over the outgoing model for once, but i doubt it. When it comes to GM’s preium engines, that power the large trucks and SUV’s GM is going with a new V8 to save fuel, not a turbo sucker. In the long run, if the new 2.5 sucks more fuel than the 3.6, GM will net positive financially from streamlining and just paying the fees as the BOF SUV’s and trucks dwarf all the others on their emmisons so they wont feel 2-3 mpg loss here.

            Reply
            1. No they don’t. I love Chevy, always driven GM. My latest two vehicles were Fords. My 3.5 gets better gas mileage and has more power than the 6.2. Oh and I don’t run premium in it like the 6.2 asks for.

I sure hope this 2.5 does better on gas than a 2.7. The 2.7 GM really falls short on fuel company.

              Reply
              1. The entire 4 vs 6 argument for better gas mileage is based on in lab testing. In real world driving a 4cyl will need more fuel for a bigger explosion to push the piston all the way to the bottom where a 6 only needs to go half of the stroke. With a real load (not a simulated one in a lab) it has to work harder and so fuel savings is not a good. They would do better with a V6 with cylinder deactivation at highway speeds! It’s simple Physics!

    1. Thats my worry. Turbos struggle to maintain that efficiency. Current Traverse with the V6 averages 25.

Im really not that very impressed. Minimal style update, no additional towing/payload and a powerplant that comes from an engine family whose only claim to fame is being over promised and under delivered. To make matters worse the main difference i am seeing is they added a ton more nanny features that ill need to turn off.

      Reply
      1. It shouldn’t. The only time it should get worse mileage is towing we’ll see less. But as we have seen the turbo 4 cylinder in the Silverado doesn’t do well on fuel economy compared to Ford.

      2. The current AWD Traverse is rated 17/25 so average would be closer to 20.

The history of the 2.7 would differ and say itll see less however. Part of me thinks tweeking the 4.3 would have been wiser.

  4. Its the same transmission. Ford discovered they get 0.8% better efficiency by replacing a clutch pack with a locking ring and skipping the rarely used 4th gear. It does leave a noticable jump skipping from 3rd to 5th.

  5. Surprised at the engine, but I like it a lot overall. Too big for me, but you know it’s a Chevy. And that’s how you do a distinctive C-/D- pillar treatment, with still decent visibility.

    2. Outside their own Tahoe, what exactly are they copy paste printing? Terrible idea for GM to one up their previous [at launch] best in class Traverse with a new best in class Traverse? Since the Traverse came out for gen 2 the Telluride came out and has been eating their lunch in an albeit smaller 3 row crossover. This raises the bar but doesn’t make luxury strides. That would be GMC and Buicks job.

This is GM’s first “nailed it” on all fronts in a long time. I’m wary of the 2.5T’s fuel economy though as the 2.7 has been a bit disappointing.

        1. Ford EQuality: Yes. Volvo has two sedans. S90 and S60. Although I (sadly) can’t work with them, remember that part of Volvo overall is Polestar and they have the fantastic Polestar 2. So overall, the Volvo brand has 3 sedans in the portfolio in a rather small company (compared to GM or Ford). Now look at GM who has exactly 3 sedans in a company that is more than triple the size of Volvo. The comparison in GM to Volvo would be Buick division. Now if GM/Buick offered 2 or 3 sedan models like Volvo does, I wouldn’t be on here bit****g about it now would I?

          1. And you get sensitive when people suggest a Bolt is almost a CUV… And I agree with you that it’s essentially a two-box sedan. With that argument, so is Chevy Trax and would could argue that XT4 is also. And Buick’s Envista as well. (Trax and Envista are FWD only, just like many other sedans)

So GM has Bolt, CT4, CT5, Malibu.. plus Trax, Envista ad XT4. Seven “sedans” and 3 are more affordable, and four are mildly affordable in their respective base/lower trims.

Don’t forget Camaro and Corvettes are also CARS.

  22. So, over a 100 lb-ft loss from the 2.7L L3B, for a vehicle that sorely needs it. Only +49 lb-ft from the old LLT — but now by ramrodding air into a small engine. Great…

This is a complete fail when others are going to a RWD-bias. The L3B is just sitting there and would have been a monster. This is exactly what I thought it would be — little-to-no meaningful updates other than a small forced air engine and a whole bunch of screens. Oh, and apparently a gear delete — WHEN THEY COULD HAVE JUST GONE LONGITUDINAL AND USED THE REFRESHED 8L80 and L3B!!! That would have streamlined manufacturing and parts even more!

What a joke of a company.

  23. Literally the same styling as the 2025 Equinox…even at the C pillar. Not horrible, but that C pillar treatment will take some getting used to for sure. It’s like GM stylists wanted to incorporate the floating roof look in to their designs, but didn’t want it to be too close to the other manufacturers’ designs. So they sort of threw it in and said “send it!”.

The 4cyl has enough power and torque to make it a suitable replacement for the V6. Not sure it will be as reliable in the long run, but should offer enough power for most customers. Chevy will sell a ton of these. I am a “GM guy” but haven’t been pleased with GM’s offerings for a few years now. I would easily choose this new Traverse over a Ford Explorer.

Can’t wait to see pricing. Should be eye-popping.

Personally, I am not a fan of small displacement 4 cylinder turbo engines in 4,000+ pound vehicles. And the drop to an 8 speed transmission needs some further explanation. In the end, I’m more than thrilled I bought a 2023 Acadia AT4 with standard 3.1l V6 and 9 spd automatic.

To Chevy and all other manufacturers: IT’S AN AUTOMOBILE; IT IS NOT A JET FIGHTER. which by its very nature needs to be skinny. Car interiors don’t have to be; why make them so? Later leg room is a nice thing to have.

GM: dig back in your archives and look at the ads you had for the 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado. You made a bit deal over all the front and rear leg room and space. Why? Hint: it wasn’t just the very slight dome in the floor in place of the transmission tunnel. It was that there was no console, much less these casket-size things you and every other manufacturer think are needed. They are as needed as flat-black wheels and floating roof effects.

  31. It would be nice if they gave the Buick and Denali models a higher output tuned engine or even the 2.7T if it fits and the tranny can handle it. I think it would help give the pricier models a more higher end performance difference and set them apart a little bit.

We know what the customers have been complaining about on the current generation and we fixed everything that we could within reason,” Katcherian added.

  35. With this release, should we expect that the new Acadia will shed its camo and be revealed soon too?

  36. The 2.5 would be a good base engine with a 400hp V6 as the optional engine.

The lack of a V6 will turn off some buyers for sure.

I wonder if they are holding the V6 for the Buick/GMC or Cadillac versions or if they will all have this puny turbo 2.5.

  37. Wish they’d just update the V6 or even toss in a small battery like Ram did for emissions. Guarantee this new engine will eek out 1mpg like Toyota and get dismal real-world mpgs… We have plenty of Ecoscam engines from Ford not meeting the window sticker mpg.

The auto companies need to talk to the EPA and political hacks and give them a basic engineering lesson bc this at the end of the day adds cost, less reliability and the consumer losses

  38. The opening statement on the 2024 traverse video I got today has a statement by Brad Franz ( Director of Advertising and Marketing) saying ” we listen to our customers”. Sadly that just is not true. There have been countless updates to this forum saying having all black interiors as the only option is a deal breaker. Nobody listened. It HOT out here in the west and black interiors are a deal breaker. Just saying……….

  40. would someone be so kind as to explain why the upper trims do not have an 8 seat option? Is it due to added weight of options, sound deadening to offset passangers to maintain EPA? Avoid encroavhing on Tahoe? Just doesnt make sense. Thx

  41. Which 8 speed transmission is this? Is it a new GM product?

  42. I can’t believe GM is going to leave out he Premier trim. around here they they don’t sit on the lots very compare to the RS and LT. Not every one want the all the red and sporty look either.

  43. I would have really like to see a 5 cylinder Turbo after all they did go from a 6 to a 4 to 6 gas and now people are building 3 cylinders to save gas so it wouldn’t have be possible to build a 5 cylinder smallest replacement with a Turbo to save gas and have horsepower and torque usable torque
