GM has officially unveiled the 2024 Chevy Traverse, pulling the sheets on the first model year of the crossover’s all-new third generation. It arrives just two years after the second-gen’s delayed mid-cycle refresh launched with the 2022 Chevy Traverse.
Notably, the all-new 2024 Chevy Traverse is the vanguard of a trio of next-gen, full-size crossovers being launched by GM, with the next-gen GMC Acadia soon to follow and the next-gen Buick Enclave scheduled to be the third to launch.
Featuring Chevy’s “High Brow” design language, the 2024 Chevy Traverse meets the world with a tough, truck-inspired front fascia illuminating the road ahead with a dual-tier headlight configuration. The new design elements and body panel sculpturing create what GM describes as “a rugged, ready-for-anything presence.”
Among new exterior aesthetic features are a more aggressive, planted stance, forward-leaning C-pillars, 22-inch gloss black wheels for the range-topping RS trim, and, at the rear, bright chrome quad exhaust tips equipped as standard on the true dual-exhaust system.
Four trim levels are available for the 2024 Chevy Traverse, including LS, LT, Z71, and RS. As GM Authority was first to report, the formerly range-topping High Country trim has been dropped from the lineup, and so has the Premier. Meanwhile, the 2024 model year sees the addition of the off-road focused Z71 trim, as we exclusively reported in May.
The star feature of the crossover’s fully overhauled cabin is the “best-in-class” 17.7-inch diagonal color infotainment touchscreen equipped as standard across all trim levels. The cockpit sports a redesigned steering wheel while the interior overall gets more space, improved ergonomics, new colorways, and higher-quality materials.
The 2024 Chevy Traverse offers seating for seven or eight passengers depending on trim level and 98 cubic feet of cargo space with all rear seating rows folded down.
Available GM Super Cruise now joins the technology list for the 2024 Chevy Traverse. The third-generation crossover is also equipped as standard with the Chevy Safety Assist package (RPO code PED) with the following included content (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):
- Automatic Emergency Braking (UHY)
- Front Pedestrian Braking (UKJ)
- Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning (UHX)
- Following Distance Indicator (UE4)
- Forward Collision Alert (UEU)
- IntelliBeam (TQ5)
The 2024 Traverse also gets Rear Park Assist (RPO code UD7) and a range of other safety technologies and features. GM includes an updated version of its Buckle to Drive feature as standard on all trim levels, which prevents the vehicle from driving unless the front passenger is buckled in. The crossover also gets Rear Seat Belt Reminder for the second and third seating rows as a new feature for the 2024 model year.
When it comes to motivation, the 2024 Chevy Traverse offers a single powertrain choice, the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine developing 315 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, a 19 percent boost in torque compared to the outgoing 3.6L V6 LFY engine. The maximum trailering rating for the new Traverse is 5,000 pounds or 2,268 kilograms, same as with the previous generation.
An eight-speed automatic transmission connects this engine to the crossover’s drivetrain rather than the previously expected GM nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on the 2024 Traverse and all-wheel drive is available as an option, with Chevy offering a Z71-exclusive “off-road-capable” twin-clutch AWD system.
Under the body panels, the 2024 Chevy Traverse is supported by the long-wheelbase variant of the GM C1 platform. The platform has received several upgrades, including the addition of the Global B digital architecture, for the freshly revealed generation.
Production of the vehicle is expected to kick off late in December 2023, with the new third-generation Traverse set to roll off the assembly line at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan.

No V6, no deal.
And when the cars went from V8 to V6, all the old heads said the same thing. Power is power. The first space shuttle had a computer with less memory than a standard smart phone and it weighed over 3000 pounds! Just because it can be done more efficiently doesnt mean its worse.
But power is power. And the v6 had the power to go past 200k without losing power
What evidence do you have that substantiates your claim that the 2.5L Turbo wont do 200k? We service the 2.0L with over 200k on a fairly regular basis. The 2.5 is almost identical except for the larger bore and stroke.
Isn’t the 2.5 more like the 2.7T? That was my assumption
I’m pretty sure their latest 2.0t, 2.7t, and now the 2.5t are all built with the same core design and manufacturing processes. It simplifies their engine development and helps reach emission requirements.
The 2.0 is vastly different than the 2.7.
We have a 2019, 1.5L Nox with over 200K and its been absolutely trouble free, Oli changes every 10k and a new set of plugs at 160k. Just follow the recommended maintenance .
Sure you do…..
200k in highway miles doesn’t count.
Show us an equinox with 200k+ miles on that 1.5 Turbo split 50/50 highway/city. Well wait.
The point is that we know the 3.6 will go 200k+, with good mileage and performance. Its remarkable how GM managed to butch up and castrate a vehicle at the same time.
No LT4 variant no deal
There’s always used ones so…….
Or other manufacturers that still offer a V6 too…..they will gladly take sales from GM.
@Westernfan
Welcome to the new World of automakers scrambling to keep offering smaller and smaller displacement engines to keep ICE alive for as long as possible.
Engines will keep getting smaller and smaller and smaller. It is the only way the Automakers will be able to keep offering ICE vehicles. Who would have ever thought people would be willing to fork over their hard earned money for a 3 Cylinder vehicle in the USA.
Not so at all. GM went out specifically and said they were looking to maintain large displacement engines on tap. Hence the 6.6 L8T and next gen V8’s. The new “tripower” family of small engines is a cost cutting, not efficiency move. They took the ecotec engine which was already one of the cheapest and most reliable engine lines out there, added a turbo, boom. Second life to a 25 year old design. They havent saved fuel, but compared to the V6, streamlines production. They might not be long for this world either depending on if the 6th gen small blocks include a new 4.3.
@Steven
The GM V8 will be fine for a while. They use that engine in their Bread and Butter Trucks and SUV’s
My point is the GM V8 is currently an older dog still winning most fights agains these “new” huffing puffing little turbos, and the next gen will solidify their dominance. My point is GM powertrain years ago openly stated they are not looking to small high strung engines as their bread and butter. The 2.7/2.5 exists as a replacement of 4 engines; the 3.6/2.5/2.8 diesel and the 4.3. Its a cost cutting engine, not a wonder engine. Barely in the same class as the 3.6 and 4.3 it’s replacing in terms of efficiency/refinement, but massive costs benefits.
Ditto with the 2.0/1.5 turbo which are actually global engines replacing multiple engines worldwide.
I just hope the new engine will actually improve the fuel consumption over the outgoing model for once, but i doubt it. When it comes to GM’s preium engines, that power the large trucks and SUV’s GM is going with a new V8 to save fuel, not a turbo sucker. In the long run, if the new 2.5 sucks more fuel than the 3.6, GM will net positive financially from streamlining and just paying the fees as the BOF SUV’s and trucks dwarf all the others on their emmisons so they wont feel 2-3 mpg loss here.
No they don’t. I love Chevy, always driven GM. My latest two vehicles were Fords. My 3.5 gets better gas mileage and has more power than the 6.2. Oh and I don’t run premium in it like the 6.2 asks for.
I sure hope this 2.5 does better on gas than a 2.7. The 2.7 GM really falls short on fuel company.
The entire 4 vs 6 argument for better gas mileage is based on in lab testing. In real world driving a 4cyl will need more fuel for a bigger explosion to push the piston all the way to the bottom where a 6 only needs to go half of the stroke. With a real load (not a simulated one in a lab) it has to work harder and so fuel savings is not a good. They would do better with a V6 with cylinder deactivation at highway speeds! It’s simple Physics!
“They took the ecotec engine which was already one of the cheapest and most reliable engine lines out there, added a turbo, boom.”
No… add a turbo, boom is Ford.
Get Tahoe if you really need extra power… This is pretty much baby Tahoe. Actually looks great . GM really made the transverse look good . Shocked really
This is built to haul kids and groceries, it will be fine.
It makes more torque then v6 though
According to a Chevrolet engineer, the 8spd was better suited to the new 2.5T. They also re-geared the 8spd for better performance.
Hopefully it can do 20 city and 25 highway
Thats my worry. Turbos struggle to maintain that efficiency. Current Traverse with the V6 averages 25.
Im really not that very impressed. Minimal style update, no additional towing/payload and a powerplant that comes from an engine family whose only claim to fame is being over promised and under delivered. To make matters worse the main difference i am seeing is they added a ton more nanny features that ill need to turn off.
It shouldn’t. The only time it should get worse mileage is towing we’ll see less. But as we have seen the turbo 4 cylinder in the Silverado doesn’t do well on fuel economy compared to Ford.
The current AWD Traverse is rated 17/25 so average would be closer to 20.
I am hoping for more than that on the highway. I have a 2019 fwd now and average just above 30 mpg on the highway.
Sorry, should have clarified my numbers were for AWD. No one really buys fwd crossovers anymore in winter climate areas
Thats what i meant lol. I have an 18 AWD, and am seeing 30/22/26 as my economy. Its also rated to 25/20/23. I would hope the new engine could match or beat what im seeing. The history of the 2.7 would differ and say itll see less however. Part of me thinks tweeking the 4.3 would have been wiser.
Its the same transmission. Ford discovered they get 0.8% better efficiency by replacing a clutch pack with a locking ring and skipping the rarely used 4th gear. It does leave a noticable jump skipping from 3rd to 5th.
Surprised at the engine, but I like it a lot overall. Too big for me, but you know it’s a Chevy. And that’s how you do a distinctive C-/D- pillar treatment, with still decent visibility.
Yes. Achieving the floating roof with glass is 1000x better than black paint.
Fantastic to the C pillar and then things go south. I don’t like the droopy side taillight treatment. Want to say the Corvette is in my family, but I dunno. Not my style. Everything else, especially the truck looking front end is fantastic.
Now show us the new Acadia! Please!
Ya, maybe the Acadia won’t have that goofy C-Pillar! That C-Pillar is ugly! I do really like the rest of the vehicle though.
I like how they made the Z71 a trim level to itself with true off road capability!
Why does GM hate fog lights so much?
Also, I can almost hear the rattles from that dash by just looking at the picture.
I don’t think it’s the dash you hear rattling….
Sounds like a great Engine/Trans combo. Great room and I’m sure the dynamics will be good.
Hmm… it’s interesting anyway.
Copy, paste, print.
Copy, paste, print.
Copy, paste, print.
Such is life now in the world of the SUV. But the wagovan lovers, I mean the SUV lovers will be so happy.
lol. This isn’t even close to a wagon. What?
The Envista and Trax, and the trailblazer/gx, sure… you’d have an argument. This though.. this is an SUV.
Outside their own Tahoe, what exactly are they copy paste printing? Terrible idea for GM to one up their previous [at launch] best in class Traverse with a new best in class Traverse? Since the Traverse came out for gen 2 the Telluride came out and has been eating their lunch in an albeit smaller 3 row crossover. This raises the bar but doesn’t make luxury strides. That would be GMC and Buicks job.
This is GM’s first “nailed it” on all fronts in a long time. I’m wary of the 2.5T’s fuel economy though as the 2.7 has been a bit disappointing.
It’s just one more CUV/SUV that looks like all the rest. That’s what I’m referring to.
GM, Ford, Honda, Toyota, Kia, etc, etc, etc……………………Copy, paste and print.
@What: SUV’s are nothing more than beefed up wagons that smashed into mini-vans. Nothing more.
Then you are only looking at the overall shape and ignoring the styling elements… Everything looks like a box if you don’t focus on anything.
Best commentary, all industries do Copy & paste.
The past transverse looked horrible so … sometimes you go with just works. Baby Tahoe > over current transverse.
It’s like they are copying by making a vehicle. And red? Jeez, where is our glow in the dark neon 3d paint? Or maybe that would be another copy by using paint at all.
well when make my designs of photo corrections use paint cs2 microsoft picture manager a lot,,, indeed sometimes for many things paint is better than photoshop
In English please.
The RS trim only offers red/black interior, that’s a hard pass.
Great looking vehicle overall and a huge improvement. Hoping the C pillars will grow on me and don’t love the tai-light droop. Really wish there were more color/trim options for the interior. The red-only for the top level trims is far less than ideal. Sent a link to the wife in excitement after the reveal and she’s a hard no due to all the red inside.
Two comments now about the lack of colors for the interior? Where are the color choices listed? This is a preproduction model introduction of the RS and Z71 trim. I’m quite sure more information will be available closer to launch.
The Chevrolet website has an interactive tool that allows you to switch between the trim levels LS, LT, Z71 & RS as well as interior/exterior color options. Hopefully, there will be a few more options when it’s available to order.
interiors (or lack of) are on the Chevy website
Go to the Chevy website and it shows the available interior colors. Black black and more black/red trim! Very boring
and ugly ….
That was exactly my wife’s response too haha. The red accents on Z71 and RS are terrible imo. We’re shopping this, new Acadia, and Grand Highlander. Have been super happy with our ’18 Traverse Premier, so looking like a step down to LT if we end up with a new one.
Drive a rental grand highlander last month for work…… dynamics are terrible, ergonomics are worse. Stick with the chevy. I also like the new pilot, but wouldnt buy it due to the lackluster engine. Wheezes out compared to the chevys. Durago RT is still the best one ive driven. Shame dodge hasnt fully fixed their build quality.
Sorta thought the floating roof look was all the rage last decade. The rest looks just good enough.
GM’s products in this segment have traditionally been among their best vehicles. Good packaging and solid vehicle dynamics. It’ll do well for them.
Love the outside looks, except for the C-Pillar, love the inside looks too. The 2.5 puts out a lot more torque than the outgoing 3.6, that should be interesting when operating in FWD. Should be noticably better performance. My guess is that the EPA estimates will go down slightly with this, but will probably go up a bit in the real world.
the C Pillar is the worse indeed.
I would not touch it with your “fork”.
well, this is not interesting, but what you guys think of the Nissan GTR AIM EV presented at the magazine K o le s a d o t ru… ?
I can tell right now, everyone will be complaining about the C” Pillar.
I bet it will be hard to look over your shoulder and see a vehicle next to you, same as a Terrain.
Jeff: Does that really mater anyhow? Most of these SUV drivers drive like they just stole it and are running from the cops. They make lane changes like they don’t care because (for the most part) they have a bigger vehicle than the next person.
C pillar aside, maybe those drooping, frowning tailights are telling those behind them “please like me, the more you see me I’ll grow on you. I’m not so sure.
The “c” pillar looks ridiculous! Just my opinion.
said that, none connects nothing there… just saying, no language of good design at all…
That C-Pillar is something else!
