Horsham, Pennsylvania-based company AWE Tuning released a short teaser video this month previewing its new ‘0FG’ cat-back exhaust system for the Chevy Silverado ZR2 and GMC Sierra AT4X. Now the company has officially released this new exhaust kit to the aftermarket, giving owners of these two off-road-ready trucks another way to improve the sound and definition of the 6.2L L87 V8 engine.
AWE Tuning’s 0FG exhaust for the Silverado ZR2 and Sierra AT4X features three-inch tubes with the company’s patented “drone-cancelling” 180-degree pipe design, along with available four-inch tips in either chrome or diamond black finishes. Customers can also order the exhaust with the company’s ‘BashGuard’ tip for added protection when rock crawling and off-roading.
Both the Silverado ZR2 and Sierra AT4X have a unique exit design with twin pipes that terminate on either side of the spare tire. This aftermarket exhaust will allow for quad-exit tips to be applied to the exhaust, giving the truck a slightly different appearance from the rear. The main purpose of the ZR2 and AT4X exhaust design is to improve the breakover/departure angles and prevent the exhaust from hitting off the ground or rock when off-roading, so while this design looks a bit nicer, it’s possible this aftermarket solution may leave the exhaust a bit more exposed. This won’t be much of a problem for Silverado ZR2 or AT4X owners that don’t do very intense off-roading, of course.
This exhaust is designed to work only on Silverado ZR2 and Sierra AT4X models. Both of these trucks come standard with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm. AWE also offers a different 0FG exhaust with a slightly altered design for regular Silverado and Sierra 1500 models equipped with the 6.2L engine.
