The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Korea sales posted a noteworthy increase in January, representing the second consecutive month of growth for the Bow Tie brand in the Asian country after registering a 5 percent increase in December 2020. In this way, Chevrolet begins the 2021 calendar year in the green in South Korea, while maintaining the solid sales momentum it started last year in that market, despite facing ongoing difficulties caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

Once again, the Bow Tie’s growth in the South Korean market was primarily enabled by the new Chevrolet Trailblazer, which established itself as the brand’s second best-selling model while adding significant volume on a year-over-year basis. Additionally, the Damas, Equinox and Labo – the only three models that achieved a positive result compared to January 2020 – contributed by notable double- and triple-digit increases.

Meanwhile, six of the ten models offered by Chevrolet in South Korea saw a decline in sales volume during the month, including the Chevrolet Spark best-seller. The minicar suffered a double-digit decline year-over-year, but maintained its spot as the brand’s best-selling model in the country. Similarly, the Colorado and Traverse saw notable volume losses on a year-over-year basis. The reason for the drop of the three models is unclear at the moment, though it’s possible that supply-related issues is responsible.
