General Motors Issues Recall For Crossovers, SUVs And Pickups Over Seat Belt Bolt Issue

General Motors and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have issued a recall notice for numerous 2020 and 2021 model-year crossovers, SUVs and pickup trucks over an issue related to the seat belt fastener bolt.

The problem: in affected vehicles, the incorrect bolts may have been used at one or more fastening locations in order to secure the seat belts to the vehicle. If the incorrect bolt was used in this process, the seat belt may not be properly attached to the vehicle.

The hazards: if a seat belt assembly is not correctly attached to the vehicle, the seat belt may not be able to properly restrain an occupant. This can increase the risk of occupant injury in the event of a crash.

The fix: dealerships will inspect and replace the suspected faulty bolts. There are an abundance of different vehicles involved in this recall campaign, some requiring different seat belt bolts to be replaced in both the first and second rows of seating.

Affected components: seat belt mounting bolt(s).

Affected vehicles:

Number of affected vehicles: a total of 470 vehicles are involved in this recall campaign.

Owners should: General Motors will notify owners of affected vehicles and instruct them to make an appointment with their dealer. If owners are unsure whether or not their vehicle is affected by this recall, they can visit my.gm.com/recalls and type in their VIN to see any open recalls or other actions that may be active on it.

  3. Every Manufacture has recalls. Just go look it up. Nothing wrong with recalls. Nothing is perfect and you will always have issue when things are built by human or machine. Its good its being caught before someone is hurt.

  4. That’s a lot of vehicles to have this problem . Hasn’t this seat belt issue happened before ?
The quality control of GM’s assembly plants is horrible . Every week there seems to be another problem with their cars . Sure recalls happen at other automakers but not at the rate at GM right now .
They will probably blame it on Covid , or maybe they thought they could get away using the wrong fastener just to keep the factories pushing out vehicles .

  5. Lol people really think when a recall issued over a trivial issue like seat belt bolt or dimmer air bag light etc. the owners immediately pack the service centers to have their cars repaired. No, most of the customers would not care. All these one after another recalls are proactive measures by the company and only for skirting possible civil action lawsuits.
