2020 Silverado HD Interior Surfaces In Exclusive New Photo

When Chevrolet unveiled the 2020 Silverado HD last month, it didn’t show any photos of the the truck’s interior. As such, the massive truck’s cabin has yet to be seen… until now. GM Authority managed to get a photo of the new Heavy Duty truck’s cabin during a recent media briefing – and we’re bringing you the first look here.

The image below, obtained by our staff, confirms the fact that the 2020 Silverado HD interior is identical to that of the 2019 Silverado 1500. We thought as much last May, when spy photos showed the 2020 Silverado HD interior looking eerily similar to that of the new Silverado.2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD High Country Interior - Live 001

The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD – comprised of 2500HD and 3500HD models – is a colossal beast of a truck. It is so big that Chevy integrated a BedStep to make it easier to access the bed from the side. It joins the CornerStep rear bumper to make accessing the truck’s bed an easier task.

The upcoming Heavy Duty rides on the all-new GM T1 platform and features an all-new exterior design that builds on the design aesthetic of the 2019 Silverado 1500, while making it even bolder on a much larger footprint. But the 2020 Silverado HD weighs less than its predecessor thanks to its mixed-material construction, which includes weight-saving measures in both the frame and panels. Its roll-formed bed is also stronger than that of the outgoing model.

The 2020 Silverado HD is powered by an all-new, direct-injected gasoline engine that is paired to a six-speed transmission. The 6.6L V8 gasoline engine is expected to make around 400 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, though no official figures have been provided just yet. The second engine is the 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 L5P mated to an all-new 10-speed Allison transmission, which isn’t exactly an Allison. The duo is expected to deliver 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. Exact specifications and details pertaining to the powertrain will become available as Chevrolet discloses them.

While we don’t have official info on the cabin, we now know that the 2020 Silverado HD interior mimics that of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. This means an additional 3 inches of legroom on Crew Cab models, as well as a taller seating position. The interior also features the next-generation Chevrolet infotainment system and a slew of goodies, including new towing and trailering technologies.

The 2020 Silverado HD will be built at the GM Flint Assembly plant in Flint, Michigan. It will go on sale in North America including the United States, Canada, and Mexico, in mid-2019.

  1. It might feel good in person, but this two-tone material stuff with the ugly shade of different colored panels here and there… the bronze accents… and even the wood accents looks like complete crap.

    1. Amen brother! THe last few years in the cars, tahoe and suburban the two toned interior colors are gross.

  3. In my opinion GM should at least improve the quality materials use in all high end Silverado models both 1500 and 2500. However, this is for GM engineers. Why the hell would you produce a bigger truck with the same power output?

The GM twins with such a deficit in the interior appearance department, should at least introduce these large 2500s with about 480 bhp and 1000 lb-ft, in order to put their competitors under some type of pressure.

So please, don’t screw up these trucks at launch by staying behind in every single category. At least give them the advantage on power until you can address the other deficits now plaguing this model.

    1. Huh? It’s a bigger truck that is A LOT lighter than before with higher power on the gas version and the same power on the diesel model.

One should also consider that being first and highest capability and whatever other on paper metric does not make for a best-selling vehicle, or guarantee other forms of commercial success.

Case in point: Toyota Tacoma… and the Ford F-Series Super Duty. The Ford SDs only recently became decent and on par with the GM HD models… but they have outsold GM 2:1 for the past two decades, despite GM having the better truck, objectively.

      1. I’d say you’re both right here. The new HDs may still pull better, and had better get a bragging rights worthy new tow rating, but the name “Best in Class” stays in people’s minds and should be pursued by GM. While being first in a paper metric doesn’t make for a best selling vehicle, it’s important to mention something since you brought up the Super Duty outselling GM 2:1. GM has not had more power and torque than the Power Stroke since the days of the 6.0 and 6.4.

    2. GM uses the same material as ram and ford, same plastic, same letherette. Now, honestly, let’s look at why it’s more obvious in the Silverado. Chevy uses a brighter black with more sheen, and the center console has a higher profile and thinner lid. The higher profile is more ideal for arm rest, and the thin lid maximises storage beneath and is lighter. Both are positives. I like the layout myself, and the materials in the Silverado are more durable. I don’t see it as a problem nessecairilly

Looks like I will be keeping my 2016 3500HD Duramax a long time!!!! They will not be gaining market share with this ugly ass truck. SAD VERY SAD

That would be the beautiful: "Wagon Queen Family Truckster" And with all of the parking lights, fog lights and especially the "tri-headlights" all over the front of it, the "family" resemblance between the two vehicles makes you wonder…

  9. Fake wood that looks it cheapens the appearance of any vehicle; this is true in 2019 as it was in 1985. I’m surprised that people still go for that all, no matter the price range.

Plastic made to look like aluminum or chrome is a different story. Imagine ersatz aluminum or chrome inserts where the ‘wood’ is in the above pic. Would look better, no?

    1. The silver or bronze trim is just cheaply painted plastic, even in this High Country trim. You can make plastic look like metal quite convincingly (see Mazda), but GM goes the cheap route. The woodgrain looks like bad 1970s contact paper you’d line your cupboards with. The saddle-colored patches of premium trim don’t hide the sea of molded black plastic everywhere. The whole look screams “Rubbermaid”.

      1. Wood grain PLASTIC looks cheap and rather disgusting but the real grain wood in the Ram Limited looks great. The Limited in general puts all others to shame. After seeing the equally priced Denali pump out the same interior except some different piping and badges I have to say GM still doesn’t get it. for 100k CAD (or more) you need to start putting out proper interiors, update the motor, etc. I will be holding on to my truck until they decide to wake up. If not I’ll go purchase the Cummins Limited in a year or two.

  10. While I don’t see myself ever buying anything but a single cab in the lowest or second lowest trim, this interior still doesn’t impress me. All I want is a good ride, nice seats, a rubber floor, and an easy to clean dash that won’t crack with as few nooks and dust gathering spots as possible. But I know people who expect a lot more.

    1. I’ve seen the interior in it’s 1500 form. I like it. Prefer the GMC front end over this version of the Silverado. What I do question, and what does disappoint me is moving away from the Allison designed transmission. It’s bullet proof and has a great reputation, even amongst the tuner crowd. To put this under performing 10 speed rated for 740 foot pounds transmission behind a motor putting out 910 foot pounds seem ludicrous. They scared me into ordering 2 years early to replace my current 2500HD. I want that proven transmission. I question the numbers in this article and the information offered. They’ve previously said the 2020 HD will have an again, totally newly re-designed Duramax replacing the L5P. They only quoted 910 foot pounds of torque stating HP numbers have not yet been released. i guess until it becomes official, we’re all just throwing darts at a spinning wheel. Only time will tell.

  11. The last 1/2 year the constant complaint has been the interiors for the Silverados. Since there are big plans to invest in EV development it looks like every group are only given a certain amount of dollars for new products. Marketing for the GM truck probably wanted everything new, chassis, body, infotainment and interior and it will take $$$$ bring to market. The big boss probably said all you’re going to get is $$ dollars so marketing and engineering probably bang their heads together to decide where can they get the most for the buck. The interior got the short end of the budget. My theory will be confirmed when the new Suburband and Tahoe come out and the interior is about the same.

My brother and I a few months ago went to the RAM dealer to get a look at the 2019 Ram. He already had a 2015 and was ready to upgrade. Of course walking up to any vehicle, good looking vehicle gets the juices going and the RAM is pretty good in that department. However, the RAM interior was the first time I felt a interior can win you over. Of course the top of the line, all leather, 12” screen, about additional 40 buttons around the cabin and steering wheel is breathtaking.

I’m planning to keep my 2012 Silverado to at least 2022 and hopefully GM ups the ante’ on the interiors by then.

    1. My guess is that GM is having emergency meetings to plan a quicker than normal mid cycle refresh to focus on the lackluster interiors on both the Chevy and GM pickups. Ram has raised the bar and will cost GM sales. BTW, I drive a Chevy Colorado diesel. Pretty tame interior but functional. If I had a choice of a better interior in an American made mid size pickup, I would have given it serious thought.

    2. Same thing happened with me. I’m not really a fan of the new exterior of the 2019 Ram but the interior really is night and day. My 2016 Duramax LTZ has almost the same interior as the new vehicles and it wasn’t best in class back then either. I’m very disappointed that the new truck has the same L5P motor ratings (though apparently they upgraded some internals to facilitate the boost in numbers anticipated in the mid-cycle refresh), a “fake” Allison trans and the fact they spent a large portion of their budget on a ridiculous tailgate that is bound to fail. Hell, my soft close tailgate has had to be replaced 7 times (every few months) and it currently still doesn’t work. The excuse is that I actually use my truck daily for work and that it wasn’t designed for that. Can you imagine repairing the new multi-pro? SMH.

I cant believe this story is making it seem like the interior is a good thing we all know that the interior of the light duty SUCKS so it again is ugly on the outside an the inside man 2019 has been the year of the disappointment after disappointment from the people would DEVELOP this generation of trucks you cant get what you want an then they didn’t even put any effort in to making this truck better than the competition

  14. It continues to blow my mind why GM would choose to take the cheap route on their single most important vehicles! This would have been a very nice interior 10 years ago but it’s now 2019. With the exception of the rear seating area they didn’t even reach the bar of their old interior let alone the standard the Ram has set. I will be disappointed if the Duramax really does come out with the exact same power numbers as before. It’s yet to be seen how the new Cummins will stack up against the Duramax /10 speed but it’s sure getting Ram a lot of press being the first to reach 1,000 ft lbs of torque and a 35,000 lb tow rating. As a lifelong GM truck owner I guess I’m just frustrated that they don’t have as much passion for their truck program as we do!

  16. Here is a good YouTube on the 2019 and focuses on the I4 turbo and other designs of the truck. It kinda shows that the designers and engineers were not a sleep. The I4 impressed me that the turbo and electric water pumps system will probably work into other new engines.

  17. Costumer first is not GM motto but cost or shareholder first. RAM is on a way to be US no.1 in trucks. New XT6 (with XT5 interior) and Silverado/Sierra (design and material disaster) are the examples of saving cost in new GM way.
