Poll: Should The StowFlex Tailgate Make Its Way To The Chevy Silverado?

The Chevy Colorado midsize pickup truck has a clever StowFlex tailgate that’s standard on most trims. It’s not quite an in-bed trunk like the one in the Honda Ridgeline, but it brings a little extra enclosed storage space without hogging any space in the bed or the cab. We like this little perk so much that it has us wondering: should the StowFlex tailgate make its way to the Chevy Silverado?

For those unaware, the Colorado’s StowFlex tailgate (RPO BPC) is offered as a built-in storage solution capable of carrying various items. The storage compartment is 45 inches wide and 4 inches deep and includes a lockable lid. The compartment is also watertight and includes a drain, which makes it a great option for tailgating. It even includes a pair of cupholders.

The StowFlex tailgate is optional on the 2025 Colorado WT via the WT Convenience Package II (RPO PCU), and it’s a standard feature on the LT, Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2 trims of the truck.

We get why the Silverado’s more versatile Multi-Flex tailgate isn’t available on the Colorado. “It’s all about the space we’d have to package this [Multi-Flex tailgate] into,” GM Chief Engineer Nick Katcherian told GM Authority last year. “It would just be a really hard package to execute where you would not get the full benefit out of it compared to a full-size truck.”

However, why couldn’t the simpler StowFlex tailgate work on the Chevy Silverado? Since the Silverado is the bigger truck, there wouldn’t be a packaging issue, and it should have an even bigger storage compartment than the one in the Colorado.

We think this would be a nice touch to the Chevy Silverado, but what do you think? Should GM offer the Colorado’s StowFlex tailgate on the full-size Chevy Silverado? Let us know in the poll below and sound off in the comments on why you voted how you did.

    1. Mmm, in the video it appeared to have a seal on the door, might need an adjustment.

  3. I own a 2023 Colorado and my stowflex door doesn’t even latch correctly and all the stuff falls out. Took it back to dealer to address and new door is required. It’s not available and on back order.

  4. It would seem to me that GMC would opt it first for the Sonoma…but judging from the comment about the door not latching correctly and the dealer hassle in getting it replaced from an earlier poster, why bother? They haven’t gotten it right yet!

  5. I rather get a regular handle back, that locks with the fob. Pressing a button makes me feel like I need to explain my pronouns.

  8. How about a truck that gets from Point A to Point B without the tranny self-destructing ?

  9. I would prefer this over the power up/down tailgate or the multiflex tailgate. A manual handle with power lock is all that is needed. This storage would be nice as I could keep my hitch or other items in there that don’t need to be in the cab. I 100% say bring it. I dred having to find a way around the multiflex or power up/down tailgate when it comes time to replace my truck.

  10. I wanted a multiflex tailgate when I ordered a 2024 Silverado. Gm said I couldn’t have it, so why was it even on the option list then? Tough company to figure out!

  11. If we are talking about an EV Silverado GM can keep it. Bring back the Avalanche!
