The GM Authority Take
The Acadia’s continued sales growth shows that the second-generation of the crossover lands at the sweet spot of the crossover space even more so than the first-generation model, most likely as a result of being smaller and thereby appealing to a broader potential customer base over its predecessor. In fact, the sales performance of the new Acadia has made us conclude that GM bet big on making the second-gen Acadia smaller, and the bet has paid off.
We expect that the Acadia will continue to post sales volume growth in the months ahead thanks to various factors working in its favor, including the ongoing shift in consumer vehicle buying dynamics that favor crossovers (at the expense of other vehicle types, like sedans and coupes) as well as the Acadia’s transition from the full-size into the mid-size mainstream crossover segment.
Furthermore, with a 33 percent increase in retail sales, the Acadia’s U.S. May sales volume appears to be relatively evenly balanced in terms of retail and fleet sales.

GMC got this crossover just right . You can get into an entry level model for 30 grand and if you want all the toys in a Denali version for just over 50 grand with a decent array of trim levels inbetween . I agree that the gamble seems to be paying off .
Even though the first gen was a good vehicle it was more van-like than SUV . I read an article yesterday that said 20% of GMC sales are Denali’s , but I would be willing to bet it’s higher than that . Finding a Denali version of the Acadia in my area is almost impossible and thats with three dealerships within a ten mile radius .
And with the new ad campaign ( which I just saw yesterday ) things are looking bright for the division .
General Motors need to consider integrating 48-volt hybrid modules into their mid- and full-size CUV and SUV to improve fuel mileage as Autoline TV reported how Delphi has a 48-volt hybrid module which can be integrated into a vehicle design for as low as $2,500 per vehicle; this will allow GM to improve CAFE mileage of CUV, SUV and trucks without needing to go diesel.
