Bringing all-new exterior design with rugged truck-inspired styling cues and a slew of new safety and convenience technology, the 2025 GMC Terrain debuts the crossover’s third generation following its mid-August reveal by General Motors.
Among a host of other changes and updates for the new model year and generation, the 2025Â GMC Terrain will drop two paint colors from the available selection, including (with color codes in parenthesis):
- Riptide Blue Metallic (GJV) – added for the 2024 model year
- Deep Bronze Metallic (GXN) – added for the 2023 model year
In place of these two colors, the 2025Â GMC Terrain gets two new exterior colors as indirect replacements, specifically:
- Rapids Metallic (GAL)
- Riverstone Metallic (GFR)
Riptide Blue Metallic was already built out and unavailable to order as of March 2024 for the 2024 GMC Terrain, while Deep Bronze Metallic was built out even earlier, by early February 2024. Meanwhile, the 2025 GMC Acadia gets a striking grille design borrowed from the brand’s trucks, C-shaped lighting signatures, and standard 17-inch wheels among other exterior updates.
For the interior, the cockpit is headlined by a 15-inch diagonal Premium GMC Infotainment System along with an 11-inch-diagonal driver information center. The model year gets 15 different safety technology systems, including Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, and Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking.
As a reminder, a single powerplant option is offered for the 2025 Terrain, the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine developing 175 horsepower aalong with 184 pound-feet of torque in front-wheel-drive units and 203 pound-feet of torque in all-wheel-drive units. The new Terrain should offer slightly increased fuel economy compared to the 2024 Terrain. FWD units are equipped with the GM continuously variable automatic transmission, while the GM eight-speed automatic transmission sends power to the pavement in AWD units.
The Elevation trim level will be the first to arrive at dealerships in late 2024, while the off-road-orientated AT4 and range-topping Denali trims will be 2026 model-year vehicles arriving in calendar 2025.
The third generation of the Terrain will continue to use the GM D2 platform for structure. Production of the crossover will take place at the GM San Luis Potosà plant in Mexico.

And you’ll pay for any color other than basic white. Yet ANOTHER way automakers have devised to gouge. I’m beginning to think that “Gouge” is the word of 2024. It’s not just vehicles.
My question is, “Rapids” and “Riverstone” are both nebulous terms, making it difficult to discern what we’re getting, without a totally enlightening and 100% accurate CGI to go on.
Rapids reminds me of water, so probably a dull blue.
Stones in rivers tend to be brownish, so probably a dull brown.
Which just so happens to be the colors they are replacing (blue and brown).
At least, that’s my thought process. I could be totally wrong and rapids might be a loud pink.
I think you have a good guess, and I hope the new blue is a more classic, more subtle, colour. The 2024 “Riptide” blue was extremely bright and toy-like.. I saw it in person too.
I hope that Rapids Metallic (GAL) is a bright metallic blue, anyone know about that blue?
After the google, “GFR” was the paint code in 2021 for a Chevy Blazer color called “Pewter Metallic”, which, as one can expect, was a tannish-gray. Not saying for sure they are recycling that color, just adding info. I know Pewter Metallic was enormously popular in the mid, late 90’s on GM trucks, but it was a different shade.
“GAL” is what Chevy calls “Reef Blue” on the ’25 Equinox, it is a very bright blue available on the RS and Activ trims if you want to preview it for the Terrain, you can go to Chevy’s build & price to view it in CGI.
