Some 2024 Chevy Silverado EV Units Will Need Steering Knuckle Replacement

GM has issued a customer satisfaction program for certain 2024 Chevy Silverado EV pickups that will need one or both front steering knuckles replaced because of a possible defect in the component.

Customer Satisfaction Program N242441240 applies to some 2024 Chevy Silverado EV trucks that were produced using front steering knuckles that have burrs on the metal. This problem can affect either right-hand, left-hand, or both steering knuckles.

Chevrolet service technicians should use the Global Warranty Management system to verify the involvement of a specific 2024 Chevy Silverado EV in this customer satisfaction program before beginning work. Additionally, the front steering knuckles should be inspected first to see if burrs are indeed present before beginning replacement.

If a Silverado EV is affected and burrs are present, the service personnel should replace one or both steering knuckles as needed. High-temperature grease and anti-corrosion grease will also need to be applied to the new knuckles.

The customer satisfaction program will be available until July 31st, 2026. It’s unclear how many 2024 Chevy Silverado EV units are affected by the problem at this time.

Currently, the Chevy Silverado EV 3WT, 4WT and RST First Edition are in production. The RST includes the Multi-Flex Tailgate and the Midgate, a panoramic fixed glass roof, an 11-inch digital Driver Information Center, a 17.7-inch touchscreen, four-wheel steering, and the GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assistance system as standard features.

The truck is motivated by GM Ultium batteries and GM Ultium Drive motor technologies, with Wide Open Watts or “WOW” mode temporarily boosting performance to 754 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque in the RST First Edition. The latter accelerates from zero to 60 mph in approximately 4.5 seconds, both thanks to instant electric motor torque generation and its all-wheel drive drivetrain. It is currently rated to travel 440 miles on a single charge.

The Chevy Silverado EV is supported by the narrow-body variant of the GM BT1 platform, and is produced at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan. The base MSRP for the Silverado WT is $68,895, while the RST First Edition starts at $96,495, destination freight charge included.

  1. Is there any indication that this is why some completed trucks are on hold at the manufacturer’s facility?

  2. Honestly I love the look.. it’s just .. I fear that the skid plate ( if there is one ) wouldn’t really protect me from catastrophic failure of the battery..
