The 2024 GMC Savana full-size cargo van remains almost unchanged from the previous model year, with the exception of a few price changes and updated availability of certain engine and drivetrain configurations. Here is a closer look at the wheels available for Big Red’s commercial van model.
Three wheel options are offered for the 2024 GMC Savana across its four variants, the Cargo, Cutaway, Passenger LS, and Passenger LT. One of these wheels is standard across all trims and variants, while the others are optional.
Notably, the 16-inch White-painted steel wheel finish, tagged with RPO code 40P, is essentially a paint choice, not a different wheel altogether. It costs $25 to get white-painted wheels instead of gray paint. On the Cutaway models, both the QB5 and QT4 wheels – the single wheel and double wheel configurations – can be painted white. The following table shows the details:
RPO Code | Cargo | Cutaway | Passenger LS | Passenger LT | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
16-inch painted steel wheel (with single rear wheel configuration) | QB5 | S | S | S | S |
16-inch painted steel wheel (with dual rear wheel configuration) | QT4 | - | A | - | - |
16-inch White-painted steel wheel finish (with single rear wheel configuration) | 40P | A – $25 | A – $25 | A – $25 | A – $25 |
As a reminder, prices for the GMC Savana, as well as the similar Chevy Express, surged by over 20 percent over the past three years. Currently, the lowest starting MSRP is $42,595 for the Work Van trim in Cargo 2500 Regular Wheelbase configuration with the V6 LV1 engine. The highest priced variant, the Passenger 3500 Extended Wheelbase motivated by the V8 L8T engine, is priced at $52,390.
Destination freight charge has also risen sharply over the same time period, jumping from $1,295 to $1,895, or an increase of $600.
The current GMC Savana is offered with two engine choices, namely the naturally aspirated 4.3L V6 LV1 gasoline engine developing 276 horsepower and 298 pound-feet of torque, and the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine cranking out 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque.
Both engines are paired with a GM six-speed automatic transmission to send power to the wheels. Notably, GM eliminated the 2.8L I4 LWN turbodiesel Duramax engine from the powerplant lineup with the arrival of the 2023 model year, as GM Authority previously reported.
The GMC Savana utilizes the GMT 610 platform for structure under the body panels, while production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri. Additionally, the Savana Cutaway is also produced by Navistar at a separate facility in Ohio.

I’m loving those 1996 wheel choices. 🙄. Shame on GM for never addressing the update to this vehicle.
Customers: We need you to build these vans and with V8’s!!
GM: Here’s a new rim color option.
Who cares about wheel colors?!
Just let us order the dang things and deliver in 3 months like before!!
The best cargo van in the business and it is almost the same size as the Ford Transit only larger. But who wants a smaller van that outside is almost the same size as the GMC?
Why can’t dealers order one???
I remember seeing a trio of the vans at a dealership in Midland, Texas, back in 2012, to be sent to the local FedEx office. Interestingly, the window sticker listed a credit of $20 for the wheel center cap delete, but listed the custom paint on the wheels (white) as costing $25.
