General Motors revealed a refresh for the light-duty GMC Sierra 1500 in conjunction with the 2022 model year, with the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 dropping in as the sixth model year for the current fourth-generation pickup. Compared to the preceding 2023 model year, the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 introduces just a handful of minor changes and updates. However, GM Authority has learned that certain off-road options for the 2024 Sierra 1500 are currently under constraint.
According to GM Authority sources, the optional Rocker Protection (RPO code NAA) and Off-Road Assist Steps (RPO code RVP) are currently unavailable to order for the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 as of April 1st, 2024. Both upgrades were previously offered as LPO-level options, which means they were installed by the dealer rather than at the factory where the vehicle was initially assembled.
Both the Rocker Protection and Off-Road Assist Steps are usually offered as options for the GMC Sierra AT4 and AT4X trim levels. The optional Rocker Protection was priced at $1,195, while the Off-Road Assist Steps were priced at $1,295. It’s unclear at this time when these options will be available to order again.
In addition, some Sierra units equipped with the AT4X AEV Edition Package (RPO code ULV) will not be equipped with the Rocker Protection upgrade, given the Rocker Protection upgrade is usually included with the AT4X AEV Edition Package. As such, units that would typically include the Rocker Protection upgrade will be indicated as such by RPO code R9S on the window sticker.
As GM Authority covered previously, pricing for the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 differs from that of the 2023 model year, with some trim levels less expensive than equivalent 2023-model-year vehicles and some trim levels more expensive. Check out our previous coverage for more information.
As a reminder, the 2024 GMC Sierra offers four engine options, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, the atmospheric 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine. The GM T1 platform provides the bones, while production occurs at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and the GM Silao plant in Mexico.
