The 2024 Chevy Traverse debuts the three-row crossover’s latest third generation, with the list of updates and improvements including new exterior styling, an overhauled interior, a new engine, and much more. At present, 2024 Chevy Traverse deliveries have yet to officially begin, leading to frustration among some customers. Now, GM Authority is rounding up everything we know so far about 2024 Chevy Traverse deliveries.
First, the good news – 2024 Chevy Traverse production is finally under way at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan. For those readers who may be unaware, the start of regular production (SORP) for the 2024 Traverse was pushed back multiple times, with GM Authority originally reporting that production was scheduled for December of the 2023 calendar year, before being pushed back to February of the 2024 calendar year. The SORP was pushed back a third time after that, but now, we know that production is finally under way.
The first units to roll off the line are dealer stock orders, or TRE orders. However, GM is currently unable to invoice dealers for the vehicles, and no new units are being sent to dealers at the moment. In fact, new units of the 2024 Chevy Traverse are currently being stockpiled at a holding lot in Flint, Michigan, located roughly an hour away from the GM Lansing Delta Township plant.
GM Authority reached out to General Motors for an explanation as to why new units of the 2024 Chevy Traverse are being stockpiled in Flint. In response, a Chevy spokesperson provided the following statement:
“It is a common industry manufacturing process to build and hold units ahead of deliveries.”
It’s unclear exactly why new units of the 2024 Chevy Traverse are being held at this time. That said, the situation appears to be somewhat similar to the situation faced by the all-new 2023 Chevy Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon, wherein new units were held pending official fuel economy rating certification by the EPA.
As a reminder, the 2024 Traverse cradles the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine and rides on the GM C1 platform.

Thank you for the update! Mine has been ordered and I’m anxiously awaiting delivery date!!
I have gone to 2 dealerships. And both of them said they can not order yet. So frustrated because I know I want it and I know exactly what I want, but they can’t order it.?? Are you kidding me both dealership. How –who can i go to to get my order in?
Be patient. No need to be frustrated. They’re not going anywhere. EPA not released yet (which is a key factor before purchase)
The dealer, when then they are ready to take your order. You sound super entitled..
It’s all about allocations from GM. At least they are being upfront and honest with you. No dealer wants to turn a sold unit away.
This is exactly right! Our small town dealer was allocated an RS and Z71 last week. We were fortunate enough to get our RS order in but we’ve been trying since January. Just go to your local dealer that you like doing business with and tell them what you want. You’ll be in line when they get an allocation.
Disculpa de donde eres por que en az aun no los tienen traverse 2024
Dealerships can put orders in, maybe call around and see which one will work with you. I’ve personally put in multiple orders for them.
Tammy 7 of my orders have been accepted an one has already been built
I can take your order. I’m at a dealership in Ohio.
Is this a joke, or serious? Because I’ve read even for the customers with orders placed, there has been little to no updates on status, and we’re heading almost halfway into the year for 2024 release which will depreciate a h*ck of a lot faster. No communication from the manufacturer or top Execs.
At this point, for the vehicle to be worth it, they might as well consider re-branding it as 2025 and changing to V6 engine (keeping the same 2024 prices), to regain consumer interest & confidence that they will be provided with a quality and robust vehicle.
I’ve got 5 available right now but they’re on hold as we await the EPA ratings. I can place an order too! The orders are being built and held at the plant. Once they get the EPA ratings they’ll be shipping them out
Why did they open orders with EPA rating not certified yet, + 0 communication to consumers from the company at-large.
Also, do you know if 4-cylinder is worth it on a midsize 3-row SUV. Seems the vehicle will be struggling to perform and on take-off ?
A turbo is effectively the same as a standard engine that is twice the size. Test drive the new Colorado.
The turbo has better performance than the much larger 4.3 V6. It is near a 5.0L engine.
The Silverado 1500 comes standard with a 4.3-liter V-6 that produces 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque; it’s mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 5.3-liter V-8 delivers 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque;
Thank you for clarifying. The Turbo effectively kicks in every time we’re driving? How does that affect gas efficiency and stress on the vehicles’ parts, being in turbo mode often?
you have zero more gm dealers lying
0 more what?
Horsepower?
Same here…ordered mine 3rd week in january
Now just patiently awaiting delivery too.
Will the RS and LT trim options offer 8-seater option, if someone does not one standard captain seats?
only ls and lt can have 8 seats (second row bench)
GM reached out to general motors????
“GM Authority reached out to General Motors”…
Can’t sell them if you don’t build them! The big three are failing miserably.

Was at the Calgary auto show and they had a Z71 in the shark skin. Looked really good until I walked around the back and the top of the driver’s side taillight was full of condensation. I was embarrassed being a GM retiree and a little pissed because there were 3, twenty-something kids pointing at it and laughing. The one kid says, “That’s why you don’t buy GM crap.” It said “pre-production on the window but this isn’t fit and finish or a bit of orange peel in the paint. This was a production part that could easily end up on the vehicles on that car carrier in the article picture.
Glad condensation isnt an option you have to pay for..I have 2023 Traverse…and have nothing but condensation in both front parking lights..Had the 1 st one..service dept changed..took 3 hours…now they both have condensation..Looking to trade back… to a 2024 GMC Acadia DENALI…, IF they ever if they ever start producing..Had GMC’s all along ..went to a Traverse because it was still larger than 2023 Acadia that was downsized. Foe some reason I have had better luck with GMC’s than Chevy’s
How much would you lose on the Trade-In ?
Will the RS and LT trim options offer 8-seater option, if someone does not want standard captain seats?
only LS and LT
So i got confirmation from my dealer mine will be built the last week of March. Still don’t have a delivery date but it does show accepted and have the confirmed build week. Anyone know how long it takes to actually build start to finish?
Probably 19-22 production hours.
That shark-fin post thing just looks stupid. I like the current model so much more.
YES!!!!
Curious as to why the online configurator still isn’t live
The Configurator always lag behind new models….. I think it’s suppose to come out later this month. That’s one of my top 3 complaints to my Chevy rep every time a new model year comes out…..
I like the current 2023 version better even though don’t need such a larger vehicle. It looks nicer, has a smoother quieter engine, costs less and will probably get better mileage. The lack of a High Country is also unfortunate but hopefully they rectify that.
Love my new 2023 Traverse Premier AWD, with 591 miles on it!
Waiting for Chevy to Wake up,,,!!! …and put a V6 in the High Country!!
Rumor is the Cadillac X6 will only have the V6
There is no 2024 Premier or High Country…..
There have been Premier mules photographed and rumored to be a 2025 addition to the trim lineup.
Yes, for 2025, not 2024…..
Moped engines in the traverse is a joke mpg will be less like my 2.7 turbo truck had better mpg with the 5.3 that we traded in someone needs to get heads out of ass
I still don’t see a price for the all new 2024 Traverse ?
At this point, you might as well consider it to be a MY 2025.
My big question is , why are they stock piling, when they need to be shipping them out. But then again, most manufacturers have been guilty of that of late, to help keep there prices inflated, even more than what they already are! It’s just to bad the new ENCLAVES are totally butt ugly by comparison.
A stockpiled vehicle represents resources tied up with $0 revenue. Every minute it sits represents a minute of depreciation, and one more minute for it to get damaged or destroyed.
You’d think an automaker would want a well-oil system getting vehicles moved and sold ASAP. Letting vehicles literally collect dust someplace to hopefully prop pricing sounds like borderline gambling.
Echo, I’m afraid you aren’t on the right track here.
The vehicles are being held due to an unknown reason, but it is likely due to unfinalized EPA evaluation, software revisions, parts availability, quality concerns, or some mixture of these reasons.
GM has no intention of holding vehicles for no reason; they want these vehicles on a truck or train as soon as they are complete.
That’s absolutely not the reason for stock piling. The manufacturer is paid for their product before it arrives at the dealership. They don’t benefit from inflated dealer prices.
Disculpa de donde eres por que en az aun no los tienen traverse 2024
They may very well be holding produced 2024 Traverses pending EPA fuel economy certification.
But I can tell you from experience, once it leaves the production line, GM has no clue where a vehicle is, in the distribution chain. My and another customer’s ordered Camaro sat in a rail yard for 4 months before finally being delivered to the local dealer, by a guy in a pick up truck, pulling a 2 car trailer on a Sunday morning. Both were produced the first week of May 2022, both were delivered September 11, 2022. GM could not tell the dealer, the other customer, or myself where the cars were or when they would be delivered. I even drove a 2023 Camaro at a dealer 2 hours away from my local dealer, 3 weeks before my car was delivered.
Ugly vehicle. This coming from a 22 Silver Metallic Traverse Premier owner.
GMC dealerships selling the upcoming, redesigned 24 Acadia say thank you to the the Chevy dealerships for putting that dog on their lots.
“Chevy Traverse are currently being stockpiled at a holding lot”
Didn’t learn their lesson with the Express vans that got hailed on last year?
Love my 2020 traverse lt cloth awd.
With all the delays, I’m going to wait for 2025. Hopefully they’ll work out all the teething issues.
There is no guarantee 2025 deliver on time.
To many 23 RS & LS models left also 24 LTD are not selling very well to many still on lots have a dealer here that will give you 5% off msrp plus 750 & 1000 if you own a gm product gm will have the new model out when they get rid of 23s & 24 LTD this deal can be found at leadcar chevrolet in yorkville ny
This makes sense. They have to sell out or close to it on the 23 models. It’s all in the marketing strategy. Great point !
we bought a 2023 had little color choice as we needed one with towing package so glad did not wait for 2024 would still be waiting LOL
Does any of you have a delivery date yet? Other than the 3400 status
Checked in with my dealer yesterday and my manufactured Z71 is still “On Hold” in the Flint lot. Not sure exactly what the production code is as he didn’t relay that.
My dealer finally call me yesterday and told me my Z71 was scheduled to be built the second week of April.
He also said he put the new 24 traverse on the locator at the dealership and has not seen any delivered anywhere yet.
He said that the dealership is supposed to get one delivered that is already made by the end of this month for the dealership.
He knew about them being stockpiled but when he asked the GM representative he said it was quality control yada EPA MPG.
Same thing I’ve been hearing from everywhere else.
They are lying to you
I’ve already ordered but it looks like the build & price for the 2024 is up on the Chevy website as of this morning (not sure exactly when as I only check weekly to see where it is at and I haven’t looked since last week)
Looks like you have your choice of colors for the interior … As long as you choose Jet Black. No real choice on the wheels either. I’ll wait for the 25 Traverse Premier and hope there’s more options.
Thankfully I love a blacked out car but I totally get where others are coming from that there is really no other option…
Chevy site was not working and now it is showing the Build for it instead of just requesting updates. Looks like it is finally happening
My order is at 3800 event code and held up in Michigan. I’ve got the VIN and everything. Already got a quote from my auto insurance for when it arrives. Feels like I have been waiting forever! Hopefully they figure this out and get these units shipped.
these are not all newly redisigned traversesi see maybe 4 judging by the wheelsbthe grill u can see are old grills
Yes they are the new ones. I have a vin for my 2RS. It is the new gen. 22” wheels and 17.7 infotainment. It’s gps located to lot in Flint MI. I’m in Illinois. Hopefully it comes soon! Says being held up for quality reason or something my dealer said. Was in on Friday last week and he showed me it on gps where it’s at.
MY lease is up in the middle of May, and if they don’t have any of the new 3 rd.- gen Traverses on the lot, I guess that I’ll go to look at something other than a GM product. I know that the Enclave is very close to the Traverse, but the cost is a lot higher. Then they have the Arcadia, but that is just a little smaller and I really don’t want either one of them either. I think that I can extend my lease, but I’m not sure that I want to do that either. So, I guess that I’ll start looking elsewhere. may be I can get a better deal on something else that is very close to the traverse in size.
I know that GM really doesn’t care what I do because there is always someone to take my spot.
I just had to let my feeling out on how I felt about the big delay with the NEW traverses.
John I have a 2rd gen in stock….also if you provide GM financial an order number you have placed on a new Chevy they will go month to month on your lease until it arrives………we are frustrated about the delay as well and have the UAW to thank in part Bob @ Haley Chevrolet Midlothian VA………best of luck on whatever decision you make
I wish the 2025 Traverse had the color orange , would allow us to get rid of the third row seat and let us have a larger well with a cover to store things out of sight the same with the 2025 Buick Envision. Can Buick make a better fancier Envision with maybe a little more room then the Traverse?
I was really interested in this redesigned Traverse. But sadly I am completely turned off by the 4-cyl engine choice. I have yet to drive a car with a 4-cyl engine that doesn’t sound like a blender coming apart when you step on the gas, complete with accompanying vibrations. Even an in-line six doesn’t vibrate and doesn’t have that tinny sound but everyone is jumping on the turbo-charged 4-cyl option. I can’t live with that as this vehicle is intended to be one of the last new vehicles we purchase. So we are seriously looking at the 2025 Ford Explorer with the v-6.
How’s 4-cylinder turbo in-line 4?
Most 4 cylinder SUV I’ve ever driven struggle when you hit the gas.
What will the Power on this vehicle be like?
It’s hard to say unless you do a track test on the 1/4 mile. They numbers on the 4 cylinder are a bit higher. Horsepower on the 3.6 V6 is 310, whereas the new 4 cylinder claims 323 HP. I tested my 2018 Traverse Redline at Orlando Speed World back in 2019, but I haven’t tested my 2021 Traverse RS yet.
Thank you for clarifying and assisting. My concern is the 23 times I’ve ever driven a regular 4-cylinder, they always struggle.
Wondering if take-off and power will be the same struggles with this new redesigned Traverse. Though higher HP, I wonder if they pushed the boundaries or marketing fluff, and it won’t actually perform to specs.
Really getting sick of the waiting with no information. My RS has been built and sitting on hold for over a month. GM needs to be releasing some information on what the hold up is. I’m ready to pull my deposit and go with something else. I know they have lost A LOT of care sales over their lack of communication.
Frankly I’ve been watching this story of GM delays for months, since they started new Traverse production in January! I’ve lost faith! I’m waiting for the High Country with the V6,,only way I will buy one.
I hate the 4 cylinders , too tinny, like a winey egg beater! —So is the Ford Explorer! Terrible!
Honestly I’m going to probably buy a Hyundai Palisades! Roomy, great looking and has V6!
Forget GM! Sorry!! 😢 Current 2018 Traverse owner,,which I love the SMOOTH V6and will keep!
,
This is starting to really be a serious problem.
What is going on GM ???
Need to let people know who have one on ordered or built.
My dealer has run out of excuses for he is also not getting the whole story.
Mine is still on a parking lot in Flint and no-one knows why????
I am starting to think that the turbo 4 cylinder may have been a bad Idea.
The 24 Ford Explorer 400-hp twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6. with all-wheel drive.
This close to same price,
Funny thing the ford may have a better or as good as the MPG than the 4cyl
Nexus, GM is clueless on scheduling and delivery of their products. I ordered my 2022 Camaro in August of 2021, it was built the first week of May 2022, and finally delivered to the dealer in September of 2022. I drove a 2023 model built after my car three weeks before my car was delivered.
The whole time GM was zero help to the dealer or myself about the status of my order or when the car would be delivered. It sat in a rail yard in Michigan for 4 months and had to spend 2 weeks at a body shop after delivery getting rail dust buffed out of the paint. Plus countless other warranty issues.
Recently drove a Mustang Dark Horse, it has me thinking about selling the Camaro and buying the Ford!
Does anyone know if the 2024 Traverse manual says it’s ok to flat tow?
By the time i see one and order one it will be 2025 season. They better call these 2025s or im not ordering!
the hell with a traverse I’ll buy something else , GM has their heads up their butt hole as far as these new traverses go
It’s hard to even know what has beeen built at this point. Chevy has a communication problem about the status of things. Anyone know if they are built yet.
I ordered a 2024 GMC DENALI A week ago…told by dealer ..probably wouldnt see it before LATE JUNE !!OVER 60K!! Wait a minute..in 2 or 3 months..the 2025 ‘s will be out..He told me?? that the 2025’s would not be out until calender year end of 2024! HMMMMM?
Blame China. This whole Covid B.S. stopped the chip production along with the manufacturing issues. They are not done with their pandemics. Right along election time.
Honestly, we can’t shift accountability to China for everything. If it was primarily China, other manufacturers would be facing the same delays. There is a lack of communication and updates. Other manufacturers like Honda, KIA, Ford, Toyota, etc have had their 2024 comparable line-ups released some months ago
I ordered mine the 3rd week of January …. Also no status up date. Where my situation is a little different – my extended lease is up in 23 days. So as of that date I have no car. No one at the dealership is communicating with me. I feel absolutely stuck right now.
I have a new RS built and received the VIN from the dealer. No idea when it will be shipped, believe it’s an EPA thing right now.
In Oshawa I was involved in many lead projects. GMT400 and GMT800 trucks, Buick Regal twice, Lumina, Impala twice, Gen5 Camaro and so on. Never experienced anything like this Traverse debacle. When our vehicles began production they were saleable, deliverable units within 2 weeks…TOPS! You can’t tell me that those pilot vehicles that were built weren’t completely analyzed and all EPA data was collected LONG AGO. Poorest launch of a product in years. These things are gonna sell like hotcakes but they can’t get them delivered. WTF!!!
Why can’t they get them delivered?
Is it really an EPA issue?
Their trying to sell left over 2023 and old style 2024’s first. This was stated six weeks ago. Unless they call these 2025 models it’s to late to order. I’ll wait and order a 2025.
I am also out of options. Just crept over my miles on my current Traverse. Can’t wait much longer. Test drove other makes for the first time in 30 YEARS!! Need the larger vehicle but priced out by Tahoes and Yukons. Sad.
They released this morning that they have started shipping the new traverses this week.
You have the direct link for that memo please? From GM, or Chevrolet themselves?
https://gmauthority.com/blog/2024/04/2024-chevy-traverse-now-shipping-to-customers/
Please keep posted if any of you physically receive your order. My dealer has no clue.
