Despite some mild revisions for the 2003 model year, the GMC Savana has persisted relatively unchanged for almost 30 years. To this end, today, we’ll be seeing if there are any updates to GMC Savana towing capacities in the following GM Authority breakdown.
Before jumping in, here’s a brief overview of the available 2024 Savana powertrain configurations. The naturally aspirated 4.3L V6 LV1 gasoline engine is offered as standard and is rated at 276 horsepower and 298 pound-feet of torque, while the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, is optional. Notably, the 2.8L I4 LWN turbodiesel Duramax engine was dropped for the 2023 model year, as GM Authority previously reported.
The 2024 GMC Savana received new gearboxes, as the revised GM eight-speed automatic transmission pairs with the V6 engine, while the new GM eight-speed heavy-duty transmission is mated to the V8 engine. In addition, a 3.42 axle ratio and RWD is standard fare.
Another piece worth noting is that the GMC Savana is offered in a number of different body configurations, including Cargo Van and Passenger Van, along with regular wheelbase and extended wheelbase configurations. Furthermore, the Savana is also offered in the Cutaway body variant.
With that taken care of, here’s the breakdown on 2024 GMC Savana towing capacities.

As seen above, the maximum the 2024 Savana is rated to pull is 10,000 pounds (or 4,536 kilograms) in all variants of the Savana Cargo when optioned with the 6.6L V8 L8T engine. Meanwhile, the lowest towing capacity sits at 6,300 pounds (or 2,858 kilograms) in the Savana Passenger 2500 Extended Wheelbase configuration.
Notably, these figures are unchanged from the 2022 model year, albeit with the exclusive of the Duramax’s ratings.
As a reminder, the GMC Savana rides on the GMT 610 platform, while production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri. Notably, the Savana Cutaway is also produced by Navistar at a separate facility in Ohio.

30 years later still can’t get a black interior
Yep, 30 years of existence for this Van which isn’t bad, but basically nothing exciting that’s being covered here. Hey GM wake us all up when a totally new vehicle comes to the market.
“Hey GM wake us all up when a totally new vehicle comes to the market.”
A cargo van, a box on wheels, doesn’t need to be new or exciting. However it DOES need to be speced and built correctly. Which starts with a frame, a heavy-duty transmission, and a V8.
When is GMC going to be building something like there counterparts like a transit or a high back cargo van which they should of started to do back when this style is gone its distance
Not everybody needs a high cargo van.
We run a fleet of low-roofs, which need to fit into parking ramps, and frankly are top-heavy enough without them being any taller. Yes it’d be great to walk inside but there are other factors to consider.
