GM Issues Fix For Faulty 2023 GMC Sierra Electronic Parking Brake

GM has issued a customer satisfaction program regarding a fix that is now available for certain 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 trucks that may have a condition causing the Electronic Parking Brake to fail to release automatically.

When the Electronic Parking Brake does not auto release because of this fault, the vehicle will also display the “Service 4WD” message.

Before applying the fix dealership personnel should confirm involvement of the specific 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup in the group of affected vehicles. Checking the truck’s Investigate Vehicle History screen in the GM Global Warranty Management system will reveal whether it is marked “Open,” which indicates it is affected and the fix is available.

Remedying the fault involves dealership service personnel reprogramming the Transfer Case Control Module with the correct calibration GM has now made available. The repair/reprogramming should correct the Electronic Parking Brake so that it will auto release and the Service 4WD message will no longer appear.

The fix requires approximately half an hour in total to apply. It is available free of charge to all owners of affected 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 units. The customer satisfaction program continues through November 30th, 2025. The procedure does not require any parts or the replacement of any components, but is carried out fully by reprogramming with SPS.

Owners of affected 2023 GMC Sierra trucks can contact GMC customer service at the toll-free telephone number below if they have any additional questions or need more information, referring to the customer satisfaction program number as needed:

As a reminder, the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 introduces only a few changes and updates compared to the refreshed 2022 Sierra 1500. One of the most significant of those is the introduction of the first-ever 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X AEV Edition.

The AT4X AEV Edition is the most off-road-ready factory Sierra 1500 produced up to this point. The variant was developed in conjunction with American Expedition Vehicles or AEV, similar to the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison and 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 Bison. Additionally, the “standard” 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X features new equipment from the AEV Edition.

  3. My wife had a top of the line Buick that the ELectric Parking brake would lock upand she was stuck.

After many trips to the dealership we sold it, she bought a Jeep.

I was test driving a brand new Yukon today and now it has the same Electric parking brake.

I love my 2017 Yukon XK with a manual parking brake. I am going to look for another brand because of this.
