GM now offers a ZR2 Spec Front and Rear DSSV Shock System as an available accessory for the 2019 model year or later Chevy Silverado 1500, with a design and tuning intended to provide the truck with improved off-road performance.
The ZR2 DSSV Shock System also improves handling of the Chevy Silverado 1500 on-road, making it suitable for use on a daily driver as well as an off-road-focused vehicle build, per The General.
The ZR2 Spec Front and Rear DSSV Shock System can be equipped on the Chevy Silverado Custom Trail Boss or LT Trail Boss without any further modifications. It also fits any Crew Cab Short Bed or Double Cab Standard Bed unit of the Chevy Silverado provided it is installed in conjunction with the Performance 2-inch Suspension Lift Kit.
The Bow Tie currently offers the ZR2 DSSV Shock System kit at an MSRP of $4,495. It is available for free pickup or with an approximate $475 additional charge for installation at a dealership. GM recommends dealer installation for best results.
The ZR2 DSSV Shock System enables Chevy Silverado owners to get a ZR2-spec suspension on any Silverado 1500 Crew Cab Short Bed or Double Cab pickup. GM notes the suspension kit will sharply improve performance for “technical rock crawling,” “tight two-track trails,” and “high-speed desert running,” as well as ordinary street and highway driving.
In practical terms, ride and handling are improved while suspension travel is increased by two inches in front and one inch at the rear of the Chevy Silverado. Higher side load is enabled by installation of 18-millimeter front and 16-millimeter rear shock rods, with advanced seals coping with higher shock temperatures. The shocks’ performance is further boosted by use of spool valve technology.
The ZR2 DSSV Shock System for the Chevy Silverado includes complete front shock module assemblies, rear shocks, steel leaf springs, and the hardware needed for installation. The parts are warranted for 12 months and 12,000 miles, or the remaining bumper-to-bumper warranty on the truck, whichever is longer.
As a reminder, production of the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500, including the ZR2 variant, is currently under way. The sixth model year of the truck’s fourth generation introduces only a few changes and updates.
Four powerplant options provide motivation, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline TurboMax engine rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine producing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine developing 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine providing 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
Recent and current Chevy Silverado 1500 models are underpinned by the GM T1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, the GM Silao plant in Mexico, and the GM Oshawa plant in Canada.
