Here Are The 2024 Buick Encore GX Fuel Economy Ratings

Fuel economy ratings are now available for the 2024 Buick Encore GX, revealing very minor changes from the fuel economy of the 2023 Buick Encore GX.

The fuel consumption ratings for the 2024 Buick Encore GX, based on transmission and drivetrain, are shown compared to the subcompact crossover’s 2023 model year in the following table:

2024 Buick Encore GX Fuel Economy Ratings
2024 Encore GX 2024 Encore GX 2024 Encore GX 2023 Encore GX 2023 Encore GX 2023 Encore GX
Engine Turbo 1.2L I3 LIH Turbo 1.3L I3 L3T Turbo 1.3L I3 L3T Turbo 1.2L I3 LIH Turbo 1.3L I3 L3T Turbo 1.3L I3 L3T

Highway (mpg) 31 31 28 31 32 29
Combined (mpg) 30 30 27 30 30 27

From these figures, most values are either the same or within one mile per gallon (increase or decrease) between the two model years. Notably, combined MPG are the same across all transmission and drivetrain combinations of the 2023 and 2024 Buick Encore GX.

The refreshed 2024 Buick Encore GX introduces changes to both styling and tech for the subcompact crossover. The 2024 GX gets styling cues borrowed from the Buick Wildcat EV concept, along with standard winged LED headlamps, new optional 18-inch and 19-inch wheels, and the updated Tri-Shield logo design. The cabin features Buick’s Virtual Cockpit system, mating an 11-inch infotainment screen to an 8-inch configurable driver cluster.

The 2024 Buick Encore GX adds the Avenir trim to its trim level lineup, boasting exclusive design cues, features, and premium materials, as GM Authority exclusively reported previously. The ST trim receives fresh, sporty details for 2024, ranging from a flat-bottom steering wheel to high-gloss black front and rear bumpers and an available Black Roof Package.

Along with numerous other safety features, the refreshed Buick Encore GX adds a rear seat reminder to its standard technology lineup. The rear seat reminder (RPO code RSR) detects the opening of rear doors up to 10 minutes before the crossover is turned on or while it is operating and alerts the driver.

Production of the 2024 Buick Encore GX launched in March 2023 at the GM Bupyeong plant in South Korea. The first 1,300 units were shipped to the U.S. in mid-April 2023, to appear on dealer lots in the first half of May. The online configurator is scheduled to go live on May 11th, 2023. Pricing of the base 2024 Encore GX Preferred trim level with FWD starts at $26,895, destination freight charge included.

As a reminder, the 2024 Buick Encore GX received mild powertrain enhancements compared to the 2023 model. The turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine paired with FWD is standard, developing 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, reaching the pavement via a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).

The turbocharged 1.3L I3 L3T gasoline engine and CVT combo is optional for FWD configurations, while the L3T engine mated to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission is equipped as standard in AWD units. The turbocharged 1.3L I3 L3T gasoline engine produces 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque.

Structure remains the same as previous years, with the 2024 Buick Encore GX once again riding on the GM VSS-F platform.

  1. Why can’t they get these boxes higher MPG? Come on, we’re talking a tiny 1.2 or 1.3L 3 cyl with CVT or 9 speeds. And the best they can get is 31 highway?

I’ve owned the larger Buick Century sedan’s with a V6 and 4 speed auto that got that and higher 24 years ago.

Yup, these here SUV things are just as good as the cars according to the apologists on here.

  2. Another downsized engine, upsized transmission and yet it still can’t best a second generation Equinox from nearly 15 years ago… From the 3.6 V6, to the 2.7L in the pickups and the 3 cylinders in the econo-fridges; their fuel economy sucks compared to the naturally-aspirated, higher displacement lower-tech engines they replaced.

  3. Would’ve bought this if GM offered hybrid. But couldn’t deal with poor performance and mpg. So bought a Kia Hybrid.

  4. They got the styling right, it looks great. buick obviously views this as a low end , entry level economy car so it is what it is.

    1. Ted T: So this would be the entry level “economy” car, just without the true economy?

My first car (hand-me-down) was a 1979 Toyota Corolla with a tiny 4 cyl and 3 speed auto with A/C. It would do 28 MPG highway which was good back then. My next car was my first brand new one. A 1985 Chevy Cavalier with the 2.0L FI and 3 speed auto. It would get 33 MPG highway. My parents had Cadillac’s and then Buick’s where the 1979 Cadillac would get 24 highway and the V6 Buick’s would get over 30 highway (not rated that, but got it). Since then I’ve owned many cars of which many were front drive Buick sedans. My 1994 Skylark with 2.4L 4 cyl and 4 speed auto would get 35 MPG highway. We’ve had Century’s with 3.1L V6 that would get 32. None had the CVT (for better MPG) or the pathetic 9 speed. And yet, they all got better. And before anyone tries to say it’s because of the weight, that would be hogwash. This box doesn’t weigh more than my Century’s did.

      1. When I bought my 2006 Corvette, my wife and I drove it from Chicago area to Orlando Fla. for a best friend’s birthday bash. Just for fun, I checked the gas mileage on I-65 cruise control on 75. 33.4 M. P. G.

      2. The 94′ Skylark was awesome. I rented one for 5 days and I believe it had the 3.1. It would fly on the highway. If you didn’t pay attention you’d be going 100 before you realized it.

        1. Joe G: Yup, you could order the Skylark back then with the V6. I had a demo at the dealer I worked at that was the 3300 v6 and it wasn’t as refined as the 3100, but it was more powerful. That was a blast to drive. Our 1994 had the 4 cyl and it was very efficient, plenty of power and was one very quiet car. It was the custom (couldn’t afford the GS back then) and still handled very well, but I put the rear sway bar on the back that the GS had and it improved the handling even more. Too bad the wife totaled it in a snowstorm.

  5. In other markets, this platform gets significantly better MPG with the 1.5T as the standard engine.
