Here Is The 2024 Buick Encore GX

Buick just pulled the wrapper on the refreshed 2024 Buick Encore GX, showing off a revised exterior design, an updated interior space, the new Avenir trim level, and new tech headlined by Buick’s Virtual Cockpit system.

The front end of the refreshed 2024 Buick Encore GX. This particular trim level is the new Avenir.

Outside, we find the 2024 Buick Encore GX incorporates fresh styling cues inspired by the Buick Wildcat EV, as well as drawing obvious similarities to the latest Buick Enclave and Buick Envision. The 2024 Buick Encore GX is also the first model in Buick’s North American lineup to adopt the updated Tri-Shield logo design. Winged LED headlamps are standard across the range, while LED tail lamps are equipped higher in the range. New 18-inch and 19-inch wheel options are on the table.

The 2024-model-year refresh also introduces the new Encore GX Avenir trim level, as GM Authority exclusively reported last year. The Encore GX Avenir features exclusive design cues, features, and premium materials, including a unique Avenir grille, unique clear LED taillights, unique 19-inch wheels, chrome body accents, and black carbon metallic body side molding. Leather seating is inside, presenting an exclusive Whisper Beige and Jet Black colorway, while an 8-way power driver seat, heated steering wheel, and air ionizer back the trim’s luxurious aspirations.

The refreshed 2024 Buick Encore GX also offers the reimagined ST trim for added sporty appeal, incorporating high-gloss black front and rear bumpers, an optional Black Roof Package, and a flat-bottom steering wheel.

Tech highlights include the brand’s Virtual Cockpit System, with 19-inches of screen real estate via an 11-inch infotainment screen and 8-inch configurable driver cluster screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included as standard, while wireless phone charging is optional.

The Buick Driver Confidence package is standard, and includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and IntelliBeam auto high-beams, among other safety features. Further safety tech is optional via various packages, such as Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control.

Standard spec under the hood is the familiar turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine, which is rated at 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, while the available turbocharged 1.3L I3 L3T gasoline engine is rated at 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is optional, with front-wheel-drive models equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission, and all-wheel-drive models equipped with the GM 9-speed automatic transmission.

Look for the 2024 Buick Encore GX to start rolling off the line next month, hitting dealers this coming spring. Pricing starts at $26,895 (including DFC) for the 2024 Buick Encore GX Preferred trim level. Orders will open up in May.

  1. I really like the front end of the old model, and at first I really really didn’t like the new “shark nose” design – the look is growing on me. The interior looks AMAZING!!!!! One thing I would change is the small headlights – make them a bit larger. Other than that – good job. (Curious what Dan B will have to say here)

    1. I agree. The old one is hard to beat. Still lukewarm on this one. Some things are just classic.

    2. tmw: Thanks for asking. haha. I too like the front of the old one better. However, in these pics above where they show the dark blue Avenir, that one looks much better. The red one with black isn’t for me. So the dark color, the extra chrome and the fully painted trims does make it look much more appealing here.

But (there’s always a but), it’s an SUV that I don’t want and it’s gas only. Now if they made it in PHEV or pure EV, then I could overlook the SUV as long as it was the Avenir trim.

    3. I’ll admit, the new logo and front end is growing on me and looks pretty good. Even though I’m only 35, I’m a “traditional” Buick customer (I still love my 3800 Lucerne). I showed this to my girlfriend however, and she absolutely loves it. This should do well with it’s intended demographic (30-60 year old woman).

  2. Look good. Better than the spy photos.

    1. Just change the brand name to Geo and get it over with. A three cylinder engine in a supposed near luxury vehicle is laughable. This division is 75% import and a disgrace to the name of David Dunbar Buick. This is what your hall of fame CEO has brought you, congratulations.

      1. Do they push the front seats all the way forward in these photos? If not then there’s no way in hell anybody over 6′ can sit on those seats and be comfortable.

  3. The Buick lineup needed a refresh, unfortunately, this Toyota fish face is not it. I honestly don’t understand why this is the new look that all automobile companies are going with. The Buicks interior is beautiful, nice and modern but they could have done the outside better.

    1. I’m seeing more Ford in the front, and that’s not a bad thing! Interior looks good, although it’s all about the screens now, regardless of the manufacturer.

      1. Yes J, there is some Ford In there, but Toyota started the Whale Shark look. Sadly this is the new thing.

  4. I would be perfectly satisfied buying a 2024 Buick Encore Avenir for my family. My only hesitation is I don’t know what else Buick has planned. According to the Detroit News, “Encore GX is the first of five new models Buick will unveil over the next 18 months for North America. Some of those will be mid-cycle enhancements and some will be completely redone models. One of those will be Buick’s debut EV.”

    1. Chrstopher, If this is the first refresh, you can bet the whole Buick lineup will follow the fish face look.

  7. I don’t like the “new” logo. Should of kept it as is. I never understood why this needs to be changed after all these years. Wasteful money on GM”s part.

  9. So I just read the article and looked at better pictures of this on Carscoops. The only way I’d plunk down money on this would be in the Avenir trim. But I’m guessing that they are making the huge hole in the roof standard on that trim? If yes, that would kill it on the spot. Yet the interior is a huge step back from the current one for sure. I don’t care if you just love these huge screens. This one is not well executed and it looks like it’s tilted forward at the top, thus giving the entire thing a strange angle. In the comments section on the Carscoops, someone showed pics of the Avenir concept from about 8 years ago. Now that was an amazing, clean and elegant interior design.

  11. That front from straight on is rough. That grille is way too low. Rest of the car looks great, but that front though… major detractor.

  12. Could that front end be any more generic?

  13. The existing nose is WAYYYY better than the new one.

Buick’s new design language is horrible.
Wonder who came up with it.
    They should be fired.

  14. I like this, 34 grand is steep though for the top trim. The top trim at least needs some wood trim, real metal pieces, and cooled seats for that price. I think the ST is a good value though since it looks like it comes with leather seating and a heating steering wheel.

    Reply
    1. Scott: Although I agree that 34 grand is high for any Encore, it’s not at all out of line with others in that category. For example, a Mazda CX30, which is not as attractive even with Buick’s new nose, not nearly as nice inside and is cramped inside, will run easily into the $30 to $35 grand range. I’m not interested in either one, but if I were and for the similar price, I’d take this Encore Avenir any day over the Mazda.

  16. $1500 mandatory OnStar. I love it more. NO.

    Reply
    1. Mick1: I’ve seen different people on here saying this, so I have a question. When or where is this showing up?

I just purchased a 2023 Chevy Bolt. Now I understand that Chevy’s “mandatory Onstar” is less than Buick’s or Cadillac’s, but nothing ever showed up on mine. I ordered the car thinking it wouldn’t be in till mid 2023, and it came in really fast. So I went ahead and took it. But here’s the thing. When I built the car, there was never anything about mandatory Onstar. The price on my build was the exact price the car came in at ($28,285.00). When I went to pick the car up, there was nothing with extra charges for Onstar. The dealer never said anything about it. To sum up, buying this car was no different from when I purchased the 2018 Buick, the 2020 Cadillac CT4 or the 2021 Chevy Malibu.

So either I’m totally wrong on this or the way this was reported was just bad reporting. From what I’m seeing, I think this “price” was a value they put on it and the it’s factored into the price of the car. Yet the car price didn’t go up by that amount.

      Reply
      1. GM, after reading the comments decided it was best to drop the charge and incorporate it into the base price of their vehicles. After 3 years you’ll have to open the wallet if you want to continue receiving whatever it is you were paying for in the initial purchase price.
