General Motors recently unveiled the refreshed 2024 Buick Encore GX, presenting a long list of changes and updates, from new styling, to an updated interior, to the new Avenir trim level. Notably, the latest 2024 model-year refresh also includes some mild powertrain enhancements.
With regard to the basic specs, the 2024 Buick Encore GX powertrain is unchanged from the preceding 2023 model year. Front-wheel drive and the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine are standard, with output once again rated at 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, which is routed through a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The turbocharged 1.3L I3 L3T gasoline engine is optional for front-wheel drive configurations, pairing with the CVT, while all-wheel-drive models cradle the 1.3L I3 L3T gasoline engine with the GM nine-speed automatic transmission. The turbocharged 1.3L I3 L3T gasoline engine is rated at 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque.
That all said, the 2024 Buick Encore GX powertrain differs from the 2023 Buick Encore GX powertrain in a few key ways. Specifically, both engine options run a new turbocharger, as well as new engine mounts.
Although both engines are equipped with new equipment, fuel economy will likely remain identical between the 2024 model year and 2023 model year. GM estimated that combined fuel returns will be roughly 30 MPG for front-wheel drive models, and 27 mpg combined for all-wheel drive models. Official EPA fuel economy figures for the 2024 Buick Encore GX aren’t yet available.
Beyond these mild powertrain enhancements, the 2024 Buick Encore GX offers up fresh styling in line with Buick’s latest design cues, as previously put on display via the Buick Wildcat EV concept. The cabin was also redesigned, and now features Buick’s Virtual Cockpit system, which combos an 11-inch infotainment screen with an 8-inch configurable driver cluster.
Under the skin, the 2024 Buick Encore GX once again rides on the GM VSS-F platform. Production for the North American market will kick off at the GM Bupyeong plant in South Korea next month.

I will only buy a Buick Made in Canada
I’d rather have an old powerglide two speed than a CVT.
Just have the floor boards open so Fred Flintstone could get this thing down the road and get better than 30 mpg .Such a drag to see small engines turbo dual turbos with 93 octane so will people will buy them on top of that put a much hated cvt trans and Made in Korea. Go buy a Kia then….not me .down hill from here for Buick.
Not a bad little car but looked better before refresh! Still like Chinese GEM Buick design better. Buick has so much potential with good managment.
I’m fine with buying a car made in South Korea. They are a close ally & like a 51st state given how many US troops reside there.
A blown 3-pot and a CVT …????
NO – AND NO.
The 3 pot with AWD’s mileage is not very competitive at only 27 combined and 30 highway. Most larger CUV’s like the Rav 4 and CRV are getting better MPG with larger more powerful 4 cylinder engines both combined and highway.
