2024 Buick Encore GX Gets New Rear Seat Reminder Feature

The mid-cycle refresh of the 2024 Buick Encore GX includes a bevy of available safety features, along with other updates to the exterior and trim lineup. One of these new technologies is the rear seat reminder feature.

Equipped as standard fare across the entire 2024 Encore GX lineup, the rear seat reminder (RPO code RSR) feature serves to alert drivers when one of the rear doors is opened while the vehicle is turned on, or up to 10 minutes before the vehicle is turned on. Additionally, this feature may notify drivers to check the rear seat when the vehicle is turned off.

It’s worth noting that Buick specifically states that this feature is not intended to detect passengers, pets or objects in the rear seats. As such, this alert serves only to warn the driver when the rear doors have been opened.

In case you missed it, the 2024 Buick Encore GX officially debuted in February 2023. In the styling department, the refreshed Tri-Shield crossover draws inspiration from the Buick Wildcat EV concept vehicle, as well as reflects similarities in design to the upcoming fully electric Buick Electra E5 crossover. In addition, the 2024 Encore GX will be Buick’s first North American vehicle that features the new Buick logo design.

New for the Encore GX is the introduction of the range-topping Avenir trim level, which features several unique exterior accents and interior materials, as well as a long list of technology and active safety features.

In regard to the other safety tech available in the 2024 Encore GX, new features include Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, IntelliBeam auto high-beams, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control. In addition, the refreshed Encore GX is equipped with the new Virtual Cockpit System as standard.

Under the hood, powertrain revisions are limited to new hardware, including a new turbocharger and engine mounts. Besides those details, output figures carry over from the 2023 model. This includes the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine, rated at 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, and the available turbocharged 1.3L I3 L3T gasoline engine, rated at 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque.

A front-wheel drivetrain is standard and pairs with the continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), while AWD is optional and pairs with the GM nine-speed automatic.

As for structure, the 2024 Encore GX rides on the GM VSS-F vehicle set, while production continues to take place at the GM Bupyeong plant in South Korea.

  1. Where’s DanB’s latest hot take on how this spells doom for the Buick brand? He’s slacking

  2. That’s one of the best looking instrument panel designs I’ve seen on any modern vehicle.

  3. I have to question “WHY” (GM)…why a three cylinder engine when everyone else in your class uses a four cylinder engine?
“WHY”…are you using a CVT (POS) transmission on the 2WD and a modern Nine speed auto Transmission on the 4WD?
Is the CVT that incapable of handling the 4WD (AWD?) that the nine speed auto tranny needs to be used, and “WHY” not use the nine speed auto in every model, whether 2WD or 4WD and leave that (POS) CVT junk where it belongs…in the trash!
“Why” can GM build a decent looking vehicle but for some ungodly reason decides to use “Sub Standard” (3 cylinder) engines and (with the CVT) Sub Standard transmissions when it has some perfectly useful 4 cylinder engines?
The only reason I can think of is “COST” (savings) which is a really lousy idea when all of your competitors are using upscale drivetrains (although I’m sure there are others using that CVT junk in their products too, tsk, tsk) with larger displacement engines and multiple speed auto transmissions!
I’m not a big fan of “power added devices like turbochargers”, not because they don’t perform well, they do, but OMG when (not “if”) they fail, the cost of replacement is just plain crazy! I’d rather have a larger displacement 4 cylinder (DOHC) with advanced engineering and “no turbo” and a 9 speed auto transmission (in 2 or 4 WD) and let the higher torque figures move my vehicle right along without the worry that at some point in time…that turbocharger and related parts are going to need replacement! Oh well, just my take on this….yeah I know turbochargers are the latest rage but I’ve seen the figures when these “power added” devices fail, (same with the CVT, pure junk in my opinion) so why not give us what we want (GM) and quit trying to push a very small (3 cyl) displacement engine with a pathetic excuse for an auto tranny (CVT) on us potential customers who love the looks and comfort of the little Buick SUV but have to suffer with a substandard style drive train! Come on GM, you can do better that this, you’ve got the “good stuff” hidden, why not bring that out and you’d be building and delivering a much better overall product to the public with the “Tri Shield” logo on it!

    1. Good points. The “why” is because GM wants to sunset the brand in North America as quickly as possible and be able to say, “we had to . . . people just don’t want Buicks anymore.” Sigh.

  4. The 1.5t would achieve between 10-20% better fuel mileage in this vehicle.
