GM recently announced that the 2024 GMC Sierra AT4X trim and the 2024 GMC Sierra AT4X AEV Edition will soon arrive at dealerships in Canada.
Both variants of the 2024 GMC Sierra HD will be available at Canadian dealerships in the third quarter of 2023. Pricing for the AT4X and the AT4X AEV Edition will be announced closer to the launch date.
Global Vice President of Buick-GMC Duncan Aldred described the GMC Sierra AT4X “the most luxurious and most off-road capable HD we’ve ever offered.” Aldred also said that “AT4X means you can conquer almost any terrain, in complete comfort and with the towing power to bring your recreational toys, gear or camper along for the adventure.”
The Sierra AT4X is an off-road focused variant of the refreshed 2024 GMC Sierra HD. The rugged and luxurious truck is outfitted with the latest GM trailing technology and an array of off-road features. These include a factory-installed 1.5-inch suspension lift, Multimatic DSSV dampers, a rear e-locking differential, and 35-inch Goodyear Territory tires. A steel transfer case skid plate and an aluminum front skid plate shield key portions of the undercarriage.
When it comes to towing, the 2024 GMC Sierra AT4X offers owners an available 18,500-pound max trailering capacity. The ProGrade Trailering System can be optionally chosen to add several technological enhancements that improve the ease and safety of trailering. These include the Transparent Trailer View for Gooseneck and Fifth Wheel Trailering, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Trailering.
The GMC Sierra HD AT4X AEV Edition was developed by GM in partnership with American Expedition Vehicles, giving it the AEV Edition moniker. The Sierra AT4X AEV Edition adds some extra durability above and beyond the AT4X, making it capable of surviving the most demanding trails or cross-country wheeling.
The Sierra AT4X AEV Edition offers all the off-road equipment of the AT4X, plus stamped steel bumpers with integrated recovery points and front winch capability, plus heavy-duty steel skid plates to guard the transfer case, steering gear, and other vital parts.
The AEV Edition also incorporates some standout styling features alongside its practical enhancements. The truck rides on hefty off-road tires fitted to a set of unique 18-inch Salta wheels. AEV badges appear on the exterior, while aesthetic details in the cabin include AEV-branded floor liners and head restraints with the AEV logo.
Both the Sierra AT4X and the Sierra AT4X AEV Edition are motivated by the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine developing 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. Optionally, the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine is available to produce an uprated 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. The Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission carries power to the wheels.
All variants of the 2024 GMC Sierra HD, including the Sierra AT4X, ride on a more-capable variant of the GM T1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Flint plant, located in Michigan.
