For the 2022 model year, the GMC Terrain introduced four new exterior paint colors, including Hunter Metallic, Cayenne Red Tintcoat, Marine Metallic, and Desert Sand Metallic. Now, GM Authority has learned that the 2023 GMC Terrain can no longer available be ordered with the Desert Sand Metallic hue for the remainder of the model year.
Desert Sand Metallic (color code GTL) was a $495 extra-charge paint color available on the SLE, SLT and AT4 trim levels, while not offered at all on the Denali. For the SLE and SLT trims, this paint shade required the optioning of the Elevation Edition package (RPO code WJP), which costs $995 on the SLE and $795 on the SLT.
While introduced for the 2022 model, it is unknown if Desert Sand Metallic will return for the 2024 model year.
It’s worth noting that the 2023 Terrain has shuffled its exterior paint options around for the new model year, with the removal of three shades and the introduction of three others:
Removed paint colors:
- Quicksilver Metallic (GAN)
- Hunter Metallic (GED)
- Cayenne Red Tintcoat (GSK)
Introduced paint colors:
- Volcanic Red Tintcoat (GNT)
- Sterling Metallic (GXD)
- Deep Bronze Metallic (GXN)
As GM Authority covered previously, the 2023 GMC Terrain features a few notable upgrades over the preceding 2022 model, including a new engine. This new powerplant is the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline, rated at 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, and replaces the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX previously equipped by the 2022 GMC Terrain. Another noteworthy update for the 2023 Terrain is a new e-hydraulic braking system.
As for structure, the 2023 Terrain continues to ride on the GM D2 platform. Production kicked off August 22nd, 2022 at the GM San Luis Potosà plant in Mexico, while production output of the Terrain is set to increase following the end of production for the Chevy Onix at the San Luis Potosà facility.
