2022 GMC Terrain Gets New Desert Sand Metallic Color: First Look

The 2022 GMC Terrain receives four new exterior colors: Hunter Metallic, Cayenne Red Tintcoat,  Marine Metallic, and Desert Sand Metallic. Here’s our first look at the new Desert Sand Metallic hue.

2022 GMC Terrain AT4 Desert Sand Metallic

Assigned color code GTL and touch-up paint code WA-661G, Desert Metallic is the only beige hue and one of five metallic color options available for the 2022 Terrain.

In total, there are eight available colors for the 2022 GMC Terrain, including:

  • White Frost Tricoat
  • Quicksilver Metallic
  • Summit White
  • Ebony Twilight Metallic
  • Hunter Metallic
  • Marine Metallic
  • Cayenne Red Tintcoat
  • Desert Sand Metallic

The Desert Metallic color is not included in the price of the 2022 GMC Acadia, as it costs an additional $495. To note, Summit White is the only exterior paint color included in the base price of the 2022 GMC Terrain.

The new Desert Sand Metallic color is only available on Terrain AT4 models. Additionally, the new color is only available with the Jet Black interior color combination as it is the only option for AT4 models. As such, Desert Sand cannot be paired with the Light Platinum with Dark Galvanized colorway or the Medium Ash Gray with Jet Black option.

2022 GMC Acadia Trim Levels:

  • SLE (3SA)
  • SLT (4SA)
  • AT4 (4SB)
  • Denali (5SA)

2022 GMC Acadia Interior Color Combinations:

  • Jet Black
  • Medium Ash Gray with Jet Black
  • Light Platinum with Dark Galvanized

As of this writing, 2022 Terrain in SLE and SLT trim levels have entered production, while 2022 Terrain AT4 and Denali models have yet to begin production. As GM Authority was first to report in May, the AT4 is set to start production in late August while the Denali is set to begin production in early September.

Meanwhile, the ongoing microchip shortage is negatively impacting inventory levels as the GM San Luis Potosi plant has been idled until the end of August, so we recommend checking with a dealer for complete availability details.

Prospective buyers may be interested to know that the 2022 GMC Terrain received a refresh, which was originally scheduled for the 2021 model year, but delayed due to complications caused by the Coronavirus. Other changes include new front and rear end fascias, small revisions to the interior and materials, the deletion of the base SL trim level, new wheel options, new a defeat switch for the engine auto stop-start feature, and more.

  3. Reminds me a lot of that Coppertino Metallic the Terrain had a few years ago. This one has less red tint.

  4. More colours is that what GM really needs how about a better engine 1.5 not going to cut it for me !!!

    1. You are one of the few (though I am sure it will be just fine for you in reality) most everyone else, the other 95% it is more than adequate. It is a compact CUV, fast it doesn’t need to be. Efficient and sufficient at moving people is what it needs to do which it does. mid 8 second 0-60 is plenty for something as dull as a compact CUV that most the buyers have no clue what any of the stats are.

    2. Well, get used to smaller gas engines. Like it or not, and whether it cuts it for you or not, they are going to be the wave of the future….if they are still available at all, with the obsessive rush to electricize everything. The smaller engines don’t necessarily produce less power either, when you figure in the turbos and flexible 9-speed transmission. I have the 1.3L turbo-three in my Encore GX, and am quite satisfied with it.

  6. I’m with the person who doesn’t think that you don’t need to be in a drag race in this vehicle . I have the pleasure of owning a 2020 Denali with the 2.0 and I’m completely satisfied with it’s performance . And I’m not trippin on the person who likes a lot of horsepower in whatever he drives . There are plenty V6 and V8 powered choices , by other manufacturers for you to have a vehicle that satisfies you as well . But I like the look of my Terrain , it’s a comfortable drive , and the 2.0 sips the gas , that’s all I got , so peace to you all and I’m gone 🎭

    1. Two whites, no black! Guess they weren’t making enough money off the black. I’m guessing if Raven Black was offered it was probably no charge.

  7. You bought the upgraded engine from that year. So you wouldnt have been satisfied with the 1.5 engine. Driven both the 2.0 litre is much more pleasurable merging and passing on highways and penalties with hardly any difference in mileage,
