General Motors pulled the sheets on the fully refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 late last year, showing off a broad variety of changes and updates for the light duty pickup truck. Now, however, GM Authority has learned that the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 offers limited availability for the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine.
According to GM Authority sources, the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500’s naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine is currently unavailable to order in Double Cab body configurations. Normally, the 6.2L V8 L87 engine is offered as an optional upgrade for the RST Double Cab 4WD model.
Given the unavailability of the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine for these models, Silverado RST Double Cab buyers will instead need to choose either the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, or the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax, at least for now.
As a reminder, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine is rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine is rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine is rated at 310 horsepower and an uprated 430 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax is rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
Transmission options include the GM eight-speed automatic and the GM 10-speed automatic, depending on the powertrain selection. Both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive are available.
The online configurator for the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 went live on March 3rd, as GM Authority covered previously.
Under the body panels, the latest Chevy Silverado 1500 rides on the GM T1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Silao Plant in Mexico and the GM Fort Wayne Assembly facility in Indiana, and, later this spring, the GM Oshawa Plant in Canada as well.

Lower the Bow tie about 3 -4 inches?
The 6.2 liter V8 should be limited production unless you really need that engine there is no need to haul around an empty bed and not have anything to tow expect for bragging rights! With the price of fuel now the 2.7 liter turbo 4 cylinder and 3.0 liter diesel look great on paper at least. Also I would rather have Chevrolet spelled out on the grill then have that giant Bow Tie.
The 6.2 gets better everyday fuel mileage and overall better than the 2.7. The 6.2 NEVER struggles for power and is a WAY better motor than anything out there, hands down!
My ‘22 High Country has been on the rack for over a month and GM cannot get a 6.2 engine to get it back on the road! (?) 1 year old with 24000+ miles! ????
yep, Bowtie should be placed in area below where it currently is located.
Someone in Canada was able to catch one of these unicorns already (the updated models)?
Thanks
GM Authority should simply start an ongoing list of parts/options that have been on restraint since the spring of 2021. They could save a lot of space for more articles. Part restraints, skyrocketing part prices, skyrocketing petroleum prices, etc. could be a huge tab at the top of the page. Just my $.02.
Good news.
That guzzling pollution mill needs retired.
In the real world, and not your world of smart-mouth insults with zero real experience, my 6.2 Sierra Denali gets a little better mileage than our Yukon with the 5.3. Both are equipped with the 6 speed tranny and the Sierra is 3.42 rear end while the Yukon is 3.23. The 6.2 Sierra hauls our boat with a lot less effort than the Yukon and doesn’t strain to pull it up the steep Boat Ramp. Maybe you should just buy a Ferd.
Shut up fag
Imagine getting that upset over a vehicle lol. What a tool.
Evan, what would you suggest they put in the Z06 Corvette if this engine “needs retired” I hope you wouldn’t suggest the 2.7 or the I6 Diesel.
👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽
Is this the reason my dealers not telling me after 4 months waiting for my custom trail boss limited that I ordered with the 6.2 cause I didn’t want a 4 banger their not building it . It would be nice to know instead of telling me it’s accepted and in the system I’m so disgusted it’s the first vehicle I’ve ever had to put a deposit down.
They would like us all to buy electric trucks screw them gm supports this corrupt democrat administration and so do the union mafia screw them all
By,By, Gm.
The Multi-Flex tailgate is no longer available on the Double cab as well 🙁
Does the tailgate use chips too. GM is totally out of control. Guess they have totally abandoned concern for market share when they can price gouge long time customers
Just an FYI.
I have a 2021 Sierra 1500 SLT with the 6.2 and 10speed tranny. I have the max tow package because of the 3.42 rear axle. I seldom tow anything but just wanted the power and no hesitation when stepping on the gas.
Went on a 150 mile trip again yesterday and again I averaged 24 MPG .
18 plus around town during the week.
The last 18 years I have had 3 colorados or canyons with from a 5 cylinder,
V-6, and a V-8. I have never gotten this good of mileage with any trucks before.
The 6.2 is such a dream to drive. I love it.
I may be 70 years old but my foot is still 19.
Guys that I talk to get better mileage with the Max Tow Pkg. like mine.
Right on Nick! My 2016 Silverado 1500 4×4 Dbb cab, 6.2, 8 sp., 3.23 ratio, gets 25 easy at highway cruising, & 18 – 19, around town! The Best of GM engines. The 6.0 work horse is also the Best, but it’s a gas hog. I Do tow a trailer, hauling my Jeep, on trips. I stepped up from a 98, Vortech 350, 4L60, 3.73 ratio, 4×4, ext cab. Man, I Ain’t Never going back! lol
The engine was already limited in availability. I think it’s really sad that Ford and Ram offers their best engine in their top selling and basic trims but GM doesn’t. When I go to test n tune and see stock F150 trucks run 12’s and 13’s in the quarter mile I can only tip my hat to them. It burns me up knowing that we could be doing the same thing in the GM twins if only GM would offer it.
Lol, then get a Camaro. BTW, the RCSB Ram cease to exist and the base 5.0 RCSB F150 cost as much as a base 5.0 Mustang, no tricks there ..
Ok let me start over again…What if GM offered a Hybrid truck with 5.3 liter V8 and it makes just as much if not more HP and Torque then the 6.2 liter V8!? Now I didn’t say to stop making the 6.2 because this is America… So far anyway and you should be able to buy what you want with the money you work for! 🇺🇸👍
I don’t know, to me it seems like GM doesn’t enjoy or want to make trucks anymore. Personally I think all of their new trucks, especially the Silverados look ugly as sin. They have excellent engines that people want like the 5.3 and 6.2 but they hardly offer them and don’t seem like they want people to buy them. They are all way too expensive, and they’ve promised to go all electric, which good luck with that nonsense. I love old Chevy but these days I hope Ford and Ram eat their lunch.
AfterMidnight… If you see a Chevy or GMC truck in person they are beautiful looking trucks. As for me I like the Silverado LTZ trim the best clean lines, nice wheels, doesn’t cost as much as the high country, and best of all it gets rid of the God awful trail boss front end and grill. But even more then looks these trucks are way to much money and I mean all new trucks from Chevy to Toyota cost way to much.
My 2015 LTZ double cab 6.2 gets better milage than the 2010 5.3 LTZ I owned. It’s a great engine and in a brickmason and haul scaffolding , boards , material and pull a mixer. It’s been a great truck.
We just got back from a 350-mile trip to and through Yellowstone National Park. We have a 2022 Chev. Silverado RST and we LOVE it !!! Lots of power to tow our 21-foot camp trailer, although we were trailerless this trip. Incredible fuel economy for such a powerful Pick-Up…… 21.6mpg from start to finish !
