General Motors has released a teaser image showing the 2022 Cadillac Blackwing sport steering wheel ahead of the arrival of the new Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing next summer.
“Today, Cadillac shared an early image of the 2022 CT5-V Blackwing and CT4-V Blackwing performance steering wheel,” the automaker said in a statement. “The wheel is meticulously crafted with leather and cut-and-sewn stitching, a 12 o’clock red racing stripe, carbon fiber trim and a V-Series emblem, ensuring that each vehicle reflects Cadillac’s championship-winning heritage on the track. Designed with driver ergonomics as a priority, Cadillac’s exclusive V-Mode and Performance Traction Management system can be quickly and directly accessed on the left- and right-hand side of the wheel, respectively.”
The ‘V-Mode’ button gives the driver quick access to the car’s most aggressive and hardcore performance settings. On the standard Cadillac CT4-V and CT5-V, the V-Mode button will alter the calibrations for transmission shifts, suspension, steering feel, brake feel, front/rear torque split (with AWD), exhaust sound character/volume and other vehicle attributes. In addition to V-Mode, the standard versions of the sedans also have Tour, Sport, Snow/Ice and Track modes.
The Performance Traction Management steering wheel button, meanwhile, gives the driver easy access to the traction control settings. The Performance Traction Management system on the 2020 Corvette C8, for example, has settings for various conditions including Wet, Dry, Sport 1, Sport 2, and Race.
As Cadillac mentioned in its release, the steering wheel will feature additional leather with thick, high-quality stitching, a red 12 o’clock marker at the top of the wheel and carbon fiber trim. The teaser image released by Cadillac also appears to show the number ‘200’ on the speedometer – a potential hint that the more powerful of these two performance sedans will be capable of breaking the 200 mph barrier. It wouldn’t be the first time a V-Series product was capable of hitting 200 mph, as the third-generation CTS-V also had a top speed of 200.
The 2022 Cadillac Blackwing models will go on sale in the summer of 2021. The CT4-V Blackwing will be powered by GM’s twin-turbocharged 3.6L V6 LF4 engine, which was previously found in Cadillac ATS-V, where it made 464 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. The CT5-V Blackwing, meanwhile, will feature GM’s familiar supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 engine. Both models will come with a six-speed manual transmission as standard and a 10-speed automatic as an option. Revised exterior styling/aerodynamics, stiffer suspension, wider wheels and tires, more robust brakes and other performance-related upgrades will also be in store.

It’s hard to care about any of his knowing that even as Cadillac is still planning to launch V-BW, they’ve already indicated the future is all-electric and thus, one can deduce that CT4, CT5 and any V-BW variants will be very short-lived. To use a theatrical analogy, why get excited over the automotive equivalent of a Dead Man Walking; a prisoner sitting on death row. We know this is all coming to an end, soon.
I was very enthused about the Blackwing 4.2 V-8, which was what I thought Cadillac desperately needed to finally be taken seriously as a modern luxury car brand. All that enthusiasm was quickly dashed after the CT6 fiasco and the stillborn birth of the mighty Blackwing V-8. It’s hard to even care anymore about any of the leftover BMW wannabe products, both launched and unlaunched.
The future is electric. Mary hath decreed it so. Thus, let’s talk about Lyriq, and Optiq, and Cellistiq, and whatever the other one is called and try and forget about the hopes we had for Cadillac’s future last year. The 40 year quest for Cadillac to topple BMW has ended and without much success. They never achieved that objective and its now been buried under a sea of batteries coming soon to propel Cadillac into a Tesla wannabe future. ICE is dead at Cadillac, Ultimum is the future, if there even is a future.

I completely disagree. I think GM is finally taking a huge Gamble to bring the Cadillac Brand back with the switch to EV’s and a Tech Brand. If done correctly, they can be right there just behind Tesla in my humble opinion. The biggest difference will be that Tesla doesn’t consider themselves a Luxury Brand and Elon keeps stating that the Companies goal is to make their vehicles more attainable as they want to transition Transportation to EV’s and the majority of the people cannot afford a Luxury vehicle. Tesla constantly drops prices on their cars whenever possible. They will also have a hot hatch allegedly lower than the Model 3 for the masses.
So that will leave the whole Attainable Luxury space to Cadillac first if they are smart. I think BMW, Mercedes, and Audi will fall behind Cadillac for a short period of time. GM needs to take advantage of that. We shall see what happens. But Cadillac finally has a chance to become a Tier One Luxury Brand again.
Everyone here always forgets that China and Europe are switching to pure EV’s in the near future. Cadillac has a Chance now. Fingers crossed they do not mess this opportunity as well. It will be their last.
What alternative planet do you live on Momolos? Cadillac is way behind BMW, MB, Audi, and Lexus in every area of engineering and development. From high end luxury sedans, of which Cadillac has none, to model line-up, which Cadillac has very little of, except for sedans (2) and SUV’s (4), no Coupes, convertibles, station wagons, or Sports 2 seaters. The competition has all of the above, including EV’s which you can buy TODAY. Cadillac is even too stupid to capitalize on the C8 chassis, and build it’s own 2 seat, high end, sports car (CIEN) that would sell very well and add to that particular segment.
Cadillac will never become a Tier 1 luxury brand with only trucks, fwd suv’s that finish last in their segments, and two mediocre sedans with nonexistant rear legroom. I believe that the Celestiq will be cancelled before it happens simply because Cadillac has no idea how to market a $200,000+ luxury sedan. Hell, they couldn’t even market the CT6. Which Cadillac dealers would receive it, the service departments would not be capable of servicing a Bentley segment vehicle. It would require a complete rethink.
It doesn’t matter what other countries are switching to. They invest heavily in their electric grids and infrastructure. We do not. Compare high speed rail in those countries to ours, ours is a joke. China and Japan have world class high speed rail, which depends on strong electric grids. We have nothing like that.
Look at what is happening now in the U.S.. California, and Arizona are on fire, when their electricity goes, how do you plug in cars. I personally know of people who left their Teslas burn because the batteries were dead and they couldn’t charge/move them. EV’s are only as reliable as the electric grids infrastructure is. Hurricanes, Tornadoes, violent storms, Earthquakes, and yes, Fires, all threaten electric grids creating blackouts from several days to several months. Over taxed electric grids from demand, create roving blackouts.
If a $130,000 Tesla is not a luxury vehicle, then I would like to know what the hell it is. It may not be a luxury car on the inside, but the price says “high end”.

AWD would be awesome on the Blackwings, but I think the return of the manual 6sp/v8 is the only real news confirmed so far.
Ah damn it!!! It’s not impossible with the ct6 v AWD. But maybe packaging won’t allow it. In terms of manual trans or AWD, you’d sell more with an AWD option then the manual. An AWD ct4 v-bw would be really fast
The Germans offer AWD why can’t Cadillac?
1) AWD + automatic = very fast in a straight line, 0-60 in less than 3 sec
2) RWD + automatic = last gen CTS-V, 0-60 in mid 3s
3) RWD + manual = fun to drive, 0-60 in high 3’s
4) AWD + manual = slightly less fun to drive, 0-60 in high 3’s
Manual transmissions and drag-strip speed are at odds with each other.
BTW, the only car to offer a choice of all of the above configurations is Porsche 911 and you always sacrifice acceleration with the manual. Of course, it is a purpose-built sports car that can satisfy the customers yearning for a manual and those who just prefer speed.
BMW M5, MB E63 do have some version of drift mode but no manual option — maybe the new M3 might offer more choices?
I seriously doubt Cadillac would have anything like AWD in store, given how much of the engine/drivetrain is being carried over. And it seems they’ve made a decision to pursue retro-appeal by offering a manual.

I think that N400 is correct. The reference is to the standard Vs. I have not seen any reports about AWD on the Blackwings, and strongly agree that they should offer it if they are going to be properly competitive.
Here again, falling back on old technology. Where is the TC 8 speed auto that is in the C8 ? Here again is why Cadillac is behind the competition in just about everything……
The 2020 Camaro ZL1 1LE offers the 10 speed auto as an option for this same engine, why not Cadillac?
GM’s been doing a lot of cost-cutting of late. Seems their CFO departed now that there’s apparently nothing left to cut.
When you take the macro view that only trucks matter, all these niche products are the first to go. So I guess we should be happy they’re still kicking for one more generation.

I don’t care about the stitching, but the material on the hub is infinitely better than the dimpled plastic on their non-Platinum cars. Why can’t they use it on all models?
Guessing the timing is coincident with BMW announcing that it will unveil the M3/M4 in Sept. At least this CT5 BW doesn’t have a monster grill like that thing…
ok cool now i’ve gotten my next fix of info on this baby (i only care about the ct5 bw although i’m curious to see what the ct4 bw will bring to the table). Wheel looks good, now I wanna see more pix of a more decamoed exterior though and some more shots of the driver compartment.
The targets have moved again: All C, D and E segment vehicles have or will have AWD in their super duper offerings. If BWs come to market without it, the chassis dynamics and RWD setup better be more than enough so as to redeem their lack thereof. Otherwise they’ll be also-rans.
CT5 Ugly rear pillar design looks more like a Chevy Cruze. Tailights are another ugly design
Let’s look at what their not telling you with the BW’s
PRICE: I expect the CT5 will be in the same price range as the CTS-V…$95,000-$105,000. For that price your getting a 2 seater (let’s face it, there is virtually no comfortable rear seat legroom in the CT5, it’s smaller than the CTS, and the constant complaint about that car was rear seat legroom.)
Since it uses the same LT4 Supercharged 6.2 liter 650hp. engine as the Camaro ZL1 1LE I would prefer to have the Camaro.
The Camaro ZL1 1LE is a beast. It is cheaper than the CT5, $71,000 to the CT5’s $100,000, and that’s with the Extreme Track Pack on the Camaro.
The ZL1 1LE ETP will dominate over the CT5, hell it beats the Challenger Redeye, and Shelby GT500 on the track. The ETC includes a CF rear wing as well as air deflectors, and drive planes on the front fascia for improved downforce, none of which you can get on the CT5. The 1LE also gets the lightweight Multimatic DSSV that allows the driver to adjust the suspension (front ride height) as well as an adaptive ride. The wheels are bigger and have more WOW factor than on the CT5, they are aluminum, are lighter, and can handle the Michelin Pilot SP 4 tires, even the R codes if you want to go racing.
The CT4 will have the same engine set-up as in the ATS-V, with 464hp output and run about $70,000+.
They should do well in their respective segments when you consider they are the C Class, 3 Series for the CT5, and the A Class 1 Series for the CT4.
The fact that they are called “Blackwing” is laughable, since they are running the same set-ups as the CTS and ATS basically. At least you could get the ATS in a Coupe, which looked more “Sporty”, not so any more….
The only advantage I see the CT5 has over the Camaro is the warranty….4 yr/50,000 miles vs. 3 yr/36,000 miles……
I would anticipate pricing to be $10-15K less than what you’re expecting. Both cars were downgraded by a class from their predecessors.
