The 2025 GMC Yukon introduces a mid-cycle refresh complete with a long list of updates and changes. Among these are new styling, an overhauled cabin, and a revamped powertrain lineup, with the new 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax replacing the 3.0L I6 LM2 Duramax offered previously. Now, GM Authority has identified when ordering will begin for diesel-powered units of the 2025 GMC Yukon.
According to GM Authority sources, orders for the diesel-powered 2025 GMC Yukon will kick off on March 3rd, 2025. Notably, this is the same date that orders for the diesel-powered units of the refreshed 2025 Chevy Tahoe and 2025 Chevy Suburban will begin, as well.
The new-for-2025 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine, also known as the “baby Duramax” engine, serves as the second generation of GM’s 3.0L inline-six diesel. Initially launching with the light-duty Chevy Silverado 1500, the LZ0 delivers 305 horsepower at 3,750 rpm, a 10-percent increase compared to the 277 horsepower produced by the outgoing LM2 diesel engine, and 495 pound-feet of torque, a 7.6-percent increase compared to the 460 pound-feet produced by the outgoing LM2.
These gains are attributed to a number of engine updates, including new steel pistons with a revised combustion bowl, a returned turbo compressor, new fuel injectors, and improved temperature control. The LZ0 diesel engine is also notable for its availability with the 2025 GMC Yukon AT4 and AT4 Ultimate trim levels. Prior to the latest 2025-model-year refresh, the GMC Yukon AT4 was not available with a diesel engine.
In addition to the new LZ0 diesel engine, the 2025 GMC Yukon also offers the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, and the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. All three powerplants connect to the GM 10-speed automatic transmission.
Under the skin, the 2025 Yukon rides on the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.
