Here’s When 2025 Chevy Tahoe, Suburban Duramax Diesel Engine Ordering Will Begin

The 2025 Chevy Tahoe and 2025 Chevy Suburban roll out a mid-cycle refresh complete with a variety of changes. Among the changes are new exterior styling, an overhauled interior, and a new turbodiesel engine. Now, GM Authority has learned when new units of the 2025 Chevy Tahoe and 2025 Chevy Suburban will be available to order with the new diesel engine.

The 2025 Chevy Tahoe and 2025 Chevy Suburban will be available to order with the new diesel engine this coming March.

According to sources familiar with the matter, diesel-powered units of the 2025 Chevy Tahoe and 2025 Chevy Suburban will be available to order on March 3rd, 2025. The optional diesel engine has late availability as GM waits for official certification from the EPA.

Under the hood, the 2025 Chevy Tahoe and 2025 Chevy Suburban offer the new 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax, which replaces the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax offered prior to the 2025-model-year refresh. Nicknamed the “baby Duramax,” the new LZ0 is essentially the second generation of GM’s 3.0L turbodiesel engine, bringing with it enhanced performance and efficiency. Output is rated at 305 horsepower at 3,750 rpm, a 10-percent increase over the LM2, and 495 pound-feet of torque at 2,750 rpm, a 7.6-percent improvement over the LM2.

Key upgrades include steel pistons with a redesigned combustion bowl for improved efficiency, a retuned turbo compressor for better power delivery, new fuel injectors, and enhanced temperature control for optimized performance.

Also notable is the inclusion of the new diesel engine for the 2025 Tahoe Z71 and Suburban Z71. Prior to the 2025-model-year refresh, Z71 variants were available exclusively with gasoline-powered engines.

In addition to the new LZ0 turbodiesel, the 2025 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban will continue to offer two gasoline engine options, namely the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84, producing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, and the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

Both SUVs continue to ride on GM’s T1 platform, and both are assembled at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.
