Here’s When 2025 Chevy Tahoe, Suburban Diesel Engine Will Be Available

The 2025 Chevy Tahoe and 2025 Chevy Suburban debut a mid-cycle refresh for both full-size SUV nameplates, updating the current fifth-generation with revised exterior styling, a new interior layout, and a variety of cutting-edge tech features. The latest 2025 model year also debuts a new turbodiesel Duramax option, namely the 3.0L I6 LZ0 engine. Now, GM Authority has exclusively learned when the refreshed 2025 Chevy Tahoe and 2025 Chevy Suburban will be available with the new diesel powerplant.

According to GM Authority sources, the 2025 Chevy Tahoe and 2025 Chevy Suburban will be available with the new 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine in March of the 2025 calendar year. The optional diesel engine will have late availability as GM waits for official certification from the EPA.

The new 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine arrives as a replacement for the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine offered prior to the latest 2025-model-year refresh. Also known as the “baby Duramax,” the LZ0 represents the second generation of GM’s 3.0L I6 turbodiesel engine.

Compared to the LM2, the LZ0 produces more power and torque, rated at 305 horsepower at 3,750 rpm (an increase of 10 percent compared to the 277 horsepower produced by the LM2) and 495 pound-feet of torque at 2,750 rpm (an increase of 7.6 percent compared to the 460 pound-feet produced by the LM2). This increase in output can be attributed to a variety of upgrades over the outgoing LM2, including new steel pistons with a revised combustion bowl, a retuned turbo compressor, new fuel injectors, and improved temperature control.

Notably, the new LZ0 will be available under the hood of Z71 trim levels.

In addition to the new LZ0 turbodiesel engine, the 2025 Chevy Tahoe and 2025 Chevy Suburban also offer a pair of gasoline engines, including the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, and the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

Both SUVs ride on the GM T1 platform, while vehicle production takes place at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.

  1. I was told yesterday from my dealer that the 3.0L couldn’t even be ordered at this time which I thought was strange. Anyone else talked to a dealer about ordering the 3.0L and received the same answer?
