Does This Corvette C8 C-Pillar Mod Make The Car Look Better?

The Corvette C8 Z06 is quite the looker right out of the box, but with a few careful modifications, this mid-engine masterpiece can become even more streamlined. While some owners may swap in an aftermarket set of wheels or maybe even a little aftermarket carbon trim, one owner centered their attention on the C-pillar with a new black wrap. In our opinion, the end result is definitely an improvement.

Corvette C8 with wrapped C-pillar.

This wrapped C-pillar mod was posted by Rick Wade, a member of the C8 Z06 & E-Ray Corvette Facebook group.

“Just messing around I streamlined my C-pillars with black wrap, top photo,” Wade writes. “I’ll probably have my detailer duplicate it in carbon flash metallic PPF to match the other trim pieces. IMHO I think it adds to the sleek lines of the Z06.”

The detailing was added just behind the side window, extending the black window surround towards the rear of the vehicle and giving the side window a sharper, longer shape. This small detail divides the C-pillar while drawing the eye rearwards towards the tail of the vehicle, giving it a longer, lower appearance, at least visually.

It’s a simple modification, but should do well to make Wade’s Corvette C8 Z06 stand out, at least amongst fellow Chevy Corvette fans. We can imagine that if Wade parked his Z06 in a line of new C8s, the C-pillar mod would definitely lend it a custom look.

Of course, the factory-spec Corvette C8 Z06 isn’t exactly short on the eye-catching details, either. In the corners, the standard Z06 rides on a set of spider-designed Titanium Satin forged aluminum wheels sized at 20 inches in diameter up front and 21 inches in diameter in the rear. The new Z06 is also wider than the standard C8 Stingray, while the optional Z07 Performance Package adds in dramatic aero upgrades a larger front splitter, dive planes, a larger rear wing.

As a reminder, the C8 Z06 is motivated by the naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 LT6 gasoline engine, while all C8 variants ride on the GM Y2 platform.

  1. Too generic looking. Also, just say no to faux window panels.

  2. It’s fine. I don’t hate it. But I wouldn’t do it. I’m guessing when you get up close it’s easy to tell it’s just a sticker.

  5. I think it gives the window a better flow instead of the truncated stock shape. I like it.

  8. Have already made the change to my Z06 when I wrapped the top, looks 100% better.

  9. Did my Zeus Bronze Z51 Coupe with all the pillars with the 3m Carbon Flash wrap. Brought the wrap down the body line to a point on the deck, and followed the side glass curve on that trajectory. Looks factory, particularly since I have the transparent roof.

  10. Nobody ever needed to “fix” a Bill Mitchell Corvette. The ‘63-‘67 was utterly perfect and still a work-of-art today. Likewise the 1968 design was totally new, completely different but another marvel of design. It stayed in production for 14 years and never looked old. Either of those designs I could still stare at for hours.

C8 may be the best Corvette ever technically but it doesn’t approach the styling perfection of its Mitchell-era forebears.

    1. Agree 100%. Yes the C8 is super fast and the handling is incredible. BUT, the design is disjointed and especially hard on the eyes. Harley Earl and Bill Mitchell would fire today’s designers. The 67 vert in my garage 25 years ago was and still is an art form. There wasn’t a single design flaw. One could spend hours looking at it . Both of my 73s looked great from every angle. For cripes sake GM, bring over a few new and not so new Ferrari and let your designers study them ! Mid-engine doesn’t have to have a big booty.

  11. Agree with Rocket. The C8 is an excellent car but to my eye too busy and definitely weak from certain angles.

  12. I like the look of it, but I would love if they offered a long tail version of the Corvette

  13. I think it looks much better with c pillar black wrap…very nice improvement.

  14. Isn’t that a B-pillar? I thought normally the pillar behind the door is the B-pillar, and adding a sticker “window” to the B-pillar doesn’t create a third pillar. Sticker or no sticker, there’s only two pillars on a C8 Corvette, the windshield post and the pillar beyond the door glass, the B-pillar.

  15. No, it doesn’t help.

The cab forward proportions are unbecoming, as is the long, fat butt.

  16. I’d appreciate seeing GM design a new rear bumper fascia incorporating a tuck here and there along with some trimming of girth . Geez Louise, GM routinely reworks front and rear fascias – case in point, 2025 Suburbans, Tahoes and Yukons. Change is good and six years is an eternity. It looks stale !

    1. Agree.

The rear especially was an overwrought mess from the get-go. Waaay too many incongruous shapes.

  17. It’s interesting that until this alteration, I never noticed how much taller the rear of the car is compared to the front. Perhaps that’s why Chevy gave us the design they did.

  20. It looks ok, but not something I would do. Unless it’s a restomod, anything that alters the cars body lines or window detail just doesn’t work for me.
