The GM Authority Take

The significant drop in Chevrolet Korea sales during the month of May further deepens the brand’s negative performance in the Asian country, where its market share continues to decline dramatically after several previous months of improvement. As such, Chevrolet’s poor sales performance in the fifth month of the year represents the second consecutive monthly decline in the South Korean market.

Chevrolet Korea Sales Fell 51 Percent In May 2024

Nearly all of Chevrolet Korea’s models suffered steep sales declines in May, with sales rates in the high double- and triple-digit percentage range. Once again, the brand’s overall poor performance was led by a drastic drop in sales of the locally-made new Chevy Trax, which was down more than 1,500 units year-over-year. Still, it’s worth mentioning that the Trax improved its performance from the previous month and remains Chevy’s most popular model in South Korea.

Chevrolet Korea Sales Fell 51 Percent In May 2024

In contrast, the Chevy Trailblazer continued to deepen its poor performance and failed to improve its month-over-month volume, as did most models in the imported vehicle lineup, with large overall losses. Only the Chevy Traverse managed to slightly increase its registrations in the month, selling four more units than the same month of the previous calendar year.

  1. Why? The article beats around the bush. Recession in S Korea? If we get one in the US, sales of even the foursome made there will tank; low prices won’t make a big diff. The TB and Encore GX have pathetic discounts and try to get anything off a Trax, which makes all but the base trim questionable value. We’ll see once the initial wave of “oh, it’s new” buyers get their fill.
