Second Gen Cadillac XT5 To Launch This Month In China

GM Authority has exclusively learned that the all-new second-generation Cadillac XT5 will launch this month in China.

Second Gen Cadillac XT5 To Launch This Month In China

General Motors’ SAIC-GM joint venture in China plans to launch the all-new second-generation Cadillac XT5 in that country’s domestic market during the month of May, according to an official launch schedule from the luxury brand that we’ve obtained. As such, the automaker is expected to officially announce and begin offering the refreshed crossover in the Chinese market shortly.

The completely redesigned Cadillac XT5 is the second launch that Cadillac has scheduled for this calendar year in China. It will take place a few weeks after the recent introduction of the all-new, all-electric 2025 Cadillac Optiq in the country—where it was launched at the end of April, as we had exclusively anticipated. The new XT5 will continue the renewal of the brand’s strong local portfolio of internal combustion products.

Completely leaked by Chinese authorities in mid-January, the all-new second-generation Cadillac XT5 represents the first major refresh of the mid-size crossover since the nameplate’s global debut in November 2015. In fact, the current first-generation XT5 was launched in the Asian country on April 14, 2016, and has been on sale for more than eight years without receiving major changes.

That major weakness in the brand’s portfolio will be resolved with the imminent launch of the redesigned Cadillac XT5, which will introduce a completely new design inside and out that will bring it up to date with the latest Cadillac models. The new XT5 features a prominent front end with horizontal DRLs and large vertical headlights, a roofline that slopes gently to the C-pillar, and muscular wheel arches that give it a sporty stance.

The all-new second-generation Cadillac XT5 will be officially launched this month in China and is expected to be available for sale shortly thereafter at the brand’s dealer network in that country. Based on the revised and latest version of the C1 platform, the redesigned XT5 is also being considered for North America, and its commercialization in the region could be realized with the recent adjustment of the brand’s plan towards full electrification by 2030.

  3. Bring it over here immediately! Looks great.

@Ric; Cadillac sold 200k units in China last year, but just 134k units in the USA. So it makes sense that Cadillac is catering to their biggest market. Maybe you can step up and buy a couple Cadillacs to even things out?

  4. @ford fan .. I’m a huge gm fan but don’t have the funds to afford the Cadillacs I like ( ie: ct6v,Escalade,ct5v,ctsv). I currently own a Yukon. I’m just saying maybe if they cater more to our market, sales might increase.

  6. Cadillac needs to remember where it got its start and not so much about China. My father and grandfather were Cadillac guys and i am on my 9th Cadillac but if they go with a refresh and continued gas power plant the current XT6i have will probably be my last.

  7. Watch carefully now, as our new model replacements will be now coming from China! This is just the beginning,,,

    1. I would not blame them if they did. The current UAW contract is out of conrol, GM cannot build a car at a reasonable price with the current UAW parasites sucking the life out of the company. An expenive car like my Escalade can afford UAW labor rates, an XT5 cannot.

  11. I believe they announced that China is getting a refreshed XT6, I bet N/A imports this new XT5 from China and we also get the refreshed XT6. Cadillac won’t be an all EV brand even by 2030. I also think we’ll get PHEV versions of these crossovers. What do you all think?

  12. It’s disgusting how GM puts China before their own country. General Motors became an automotive giant BECAUSE OF AMERICANS, but now they put Americans last!
