2024 Buick Enclave Drive Modes Explained

The 2024 Buick Enclave represents the seventh model year of the crossover’s second generation, carrying on mostly unchanged after receiving a midcycle refresh for the 2022 model year. Offering a range of selectable drive modes, the 2024 Enclave allows the driver to adjust the crossover’s overall driving experience with just a touch of a button. Below, GM Authority delves into what each mode has to offer.

Before we dive in, note that drive mode availability and affected vehicle subsystems depend on the 2024 Enclave trim level, region and optional features. Additionally, if the vehicle is in Tour Mode or AWD Mode, that mode will stay engaged through future ignition cycles. If the vehicle is in any other mode, it will default to Tour Mode when the vehicle is restarted. When each mode is selected, an indicator will be displayed in the instrument cluster. To activate each mode, simply press the applicable button. Said buttons are located in the center stack near the infotainment screen.

With that out of the way, let’s take a look at the drive modes for the 2024 Buick Enclave.

Tour Mode

Tour Mode keeps the 2024 Enclave in front-wheel drive (FWD) for maximum fuel efficiency. This mode is recommended for use in normal driving conditions on dry pavement, including city and highway driving. Tour Mode will not remain active if all-wheel drive (AWD) is selected on applicable vehicles.

Sport Mode

Sport Mode is denoted by a checkered flag indicator on the instrument cluster. Selecting this mode primes the 2024 Enclave for a more spirited drive, improving vehicle handling and acceleration on dry pavement. This mode also modifies steering efforts, transmission shifting, AWD torque, suspension tuning (Avenir with the Technology Package), and StabiliTrak/Electronic Stability Control (ESC) settings. In vehicles outfitted with AWD, choosing Sport Mode also activates AWD.

AWD Mode (AWD Only)

AWD Mode, of course, is only available on the 2024 Enclave outfitted with AWD. This mode provides torque to all four wheels, and is recommended for use where extra traction is needed in slippery road conditions. This includes gravel, sand, wet pavement, snow and ice. When in AWD mode, the AWD indicator will stay illuminated, which shows an illustration of a road overlaid with “x4.”

Snow/Ice Mode (FWD Only)

Snow/Ice Mode is only available for FWD-only models, and improves vehicle acceleration on snow- and ice-covered roads. It changes accelerator pedal response for maximum traction. However, note that this mode is not intended for use if the crossover is already stuck in snow, ice, sand or gravel. This mode is indicated by a snowflake icon.

Off-Road Mode (AWD Only)

Off-Road Mode, for AWD-equipped models only, adjust the systems of the 2024 Buick Enclave to improve performance in off-road recreational driving situations. When this mode is active, accelerator pedal response, AWD torque, suspension tuning, traction control, ABS and the StabiliTrak/ESC system are adjusted. AWD is also activated when this mode is selected. Its indicator is an icon of twin mountain peaks overlaid with an S-curve road.

Tow/Haul

Activating Tow/Haul mode will engage AWD automatically in applicable vehicles. The transmission will hold lower gears longer before upshifting, providing maximum torque for towing heavy loads. Note that this will also negatively impact fuel consumption, meaning the Enclave will become less fuel efficient while in this mode. This mode also modifies steering, ESC, traction control and suspension tuning if applicable. Tow/Haul Mode ensures that the crossover maintains desired speed while towing downhill by using the engine and transmission to slow the vehicle if necessary to prevent the brakes from overheating.

As previously covered by GM Authority, the 2024 Buick Enclave can tow up to 5,000 pounds when outfitted with the optional Trailering Package (RPO code V92); otherwise, without it, the Enclave is rated for 1,500 pounds.

As a reminder, the 2024 Enclave rides on the long-wheelbase variant of the GM C1 platform. Production of the 2024 model recently ended at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan. Looking ahead, an all-new generation is inbound in the form of the 2025 Buick Enclave.
