2022 Cadillac XT6 Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit Under Way

GM has issued a service bulletin for a retrofit of the heated steering wheel (RPO code KI3) feature on certain units of the 2022 Cadillac XT6 produced between December 6th, 2021 and February 21st, 2022 inclusively.

The problem: starting on December 6th, 2021 GM built certain 2022 model year Cadillac XT6s without a functional heated steering wheel feature due to lack of necessary components caused by the semiconductor shortage. All units of the Premium Luxury and Sport trims were built without the steering wheel heat feature.

Several other Cadillac vehicles received limited heated steering wheel availability at the same time, including the Cadillac XT4 and XT5 crossovers, as well as the CT4 and CT5 sedans.

The fix: dealerships carry out the retrofit described in the service bulletin. The dealer will order an appropriate replacement steering wheel assembly as detailed in the bulletin and install it in the affected Cadillac XT6. Dealer replacement of the steering wheel assembly requires approximately 30 minutes and is carried out free of charge.

The retrofit program is in effect until March 31st, 2026.

Affected components:

Owners should: affected Cadillac XT6 owners were notified of the non-functional heated steering wheel feature at the time of purchase. They were also notified that they would be eligible for a retrofit at no additional cost once the necessary parts became available. Affected 2022 Cadillac XT6 owners with questions about the retrofit can call Cadillac‘s customer service number, referencing the GM customer satisfaction program number below.

It should be noted that the constraint on heated steering wheels for the Cadillac XT6 as a result of the semiconductor shortage was resolved by February 20th, 2022. In fact, 2022 Cadillac XT6 crossovers produced on or after February 21st, 2022 were built with heated steering wheels intact. Availability of the heated rear outboard seats (RPO code KA6) feature also returned on that date.

Additionally, a similar retrofit is underway for the 2022 Cadillac CT4 sedan.

  2. Chuck, in the same boat as you are. My XT4 was delivered in February 2022. Heated seat retrofit was performed within 6 months. Now that winter is over there’s not much need for a heated steering wheel. Called Cadillac customer care and they informed me this is being done by vin number. Extremely frustrating! GM shouldn’t release these statements unless they have enough parts available to satisfy ALL affected customers.

  3. Still waiting for heated steering wheel retrofit. Coming up 1 year since I took possession of my XT4. They gave me a 6 month subscription to onstar to help appease me. I didn’t renew it and don’t really want it. Just hope they don’t come back with “this is instead of” the heated steering wheel
