The 2024 Chevy Silverado HD introduces a mid-cycle refresh for the heavy duty pickup that brings a bevy of exterior enhancements, an overhauled cockpit, and upgraded technology. One new feature is called GCW Alert, a system that measures gross combination weight while trailering.
GCW Alert is a new trailering aid that predicts the gross combination mass of the truck and trailer based on axle torque and vehicle acceleration. If gross combination mass is predicted to be close or over the truck’s gross combined weight rating, the driver is alerted through the driver information center. The driver is alerted only once per key cycle.
The driver can turn the feature on and off on their trailer profile in the trailer app. The alert provides the driver with two distinct warnings:
- Yellow – Estimated weight of your trailer and cargo may exceed the vehicle GCW
- Red – Estimated weight of your trailer and cargo exceeds the vehicle GCW
Other all-new trailering aids for the 2024 Silverado HD include Adaptive Cruise Control with Trailer, Enhanced Transparent Trailer, and Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert.
For those who may have missed it, here’s the lowdown on the revised 2024 Silverado HD. On the exterior, pickup receives a new front fascia, which includes new a new grille, headlights and C-shaped LED signature lighting, while tow hooks are standard on all trim levels.
As for the interior, trim levels LT and above receive an entirely overhauled cockpit, which includes an all-new 13.4-inch diagonal infotainment screen and 12.3-inch diagonal configurable driver information center. Work Truck (WT) and Custom trims carry on with the current, 2023 Silverado HD‘s cabin design.
Under the hood, the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD is equipped with the 6.6L L8T V8 gasoline engine as standard, which produces 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine is optional, now churning out 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet.
Regardless of engine choice, every Chevy Silverado HD runs the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission as standard, which replaces the GM six-speed equipped by gasoline-powered models previously.
Production is expected to kick off in February 2023.

I wonder if the PCM will log overweight events. Could be used to deny warranty claims.
What GM should also do is develop a enhanced TMPS range for trailer tires over the short range it now has. There are a lot of trailer (I have a 48′ triple axle trailer) which the TMPS is out of range. I know the reciever is located behind the truck rear license plate. It needs to be able to have a longer range so it can work.
On a second note how about also on the invisible trailer camera modes to also include longer trailers. I sure would like to see the entire camera system be utilized for goose neck / 5th’er trailers.
I have a 2020 GMC 3500 dually and I am looking at the upgrade to ’24 model year.

When will the build app on the GM website be updated to accept a 2024 build?
And when will orders be able to be placed for the new 2024 models?
The front looks like a sad hound dog!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks just as good or better than Ford. Hope it comes in a Supercab version?
