Four months after the official reveal of the all-new Baojun Yunhai in China, SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) has just officially launched the electric crossover in China.
General Motors’ second joint venture in China has officially launched the all-new Baojun Yunhai, a compact crossover powered by an electrified powertrain that represents the first vehicle of Baojun’s return to the Asian country’s mainstream passenger-car market, after focusing EV minicars and mini-crossovers for the past two years. As such, the new Yunhai is being launched in the Chinese market in both PHEV and all-electric variants.
As an all-new model developed on the D platform of SGMW’s new Tianyu EV architecture, the Baojun Yunhai is officially described as Baojun’s “first long-range new energy intelligent utility vehicle” designed with two complementary powertrains to meet the needs of Chinese customers. At the same time, it debuts a new corporate design language and advanced driver assistance technologies.
In particular, the all-new Baojun Yunhai arrives in China with a lineup consisting of a total of four variants boasting varying all-electric powertrains and ranges. In fact, the brand does not distinguish them with equipment levels, but directly by the range figure in kilometers. Among them are two PHEVs with ranges of 60 and 140 km (37.3 and 87 miles), and two EVs with ranges of 500 and 600 km (310 and 373 miles).
Technically, both Baojun Yunhai powertrain configurations feature a 150 kW or 201-horsepower electric motor, paired with a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine from SGMW’s Lingxi hybrid system for the PHEVs. The EVs feature a class-leading battery capacity of up to 69.2 kWh with DC 2C fast charging, while the PHEVs include 9.5 and 20.5 kWh batteries for a total range of up to 1,100 km (684 miles).
The all-new Baojun Yunhai is now available for sale at the official Baojun and SGMW dealer network in China, the country of origin and the only market where GM’s youngest brand is officially marketed. The PHEV and EV variants feature their own front ends with specific bumper designs, as well as a tech-rich interior with the brand’s latest hardware and the Lingmo Smart Driving 2.0 Max system as standard. Here is pricing for the four variants:
- Yunhai PHEV 60km: 109,800 yuan (about $15,450 USD at the current exchange rate)
- Yunhai PHEV+ 140km: 123,800 yuan ($17,390 USD)
- Yunhai EV 500km: 123,800 yuan ($17,390 USD)
- Yunhai EV+ 600km: 133,800 yuan ($18,800 USD)
