Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)

Cadillac Lyriq sales in Q2 2024 again kept the battery-electric crossover in second place from the previous quarter in the electric luxury D-crossover segment when ranked by sales volume.

The Tesla Model Y continues to vastly outperform all contenders in this space, as has been the case from the beginning with its first-mover advantage, posting a five percent slide in sales to 100K units and perhaps the first decline we’ve seen. The Lyriq (see running Cadillac Lyriq sales) followed in second place with 7,294 deliveries, posting another high in units moved. The Lexus RZ moved up to follow in third, moving 4,036 units, while the Audi Q8 e-tron traded spots to take fourth with 1,811 deliveries, while the Jaguar I-Pace posted 546 sales. We’ve added the first-ever Acura ZDX this quarter, as it has finally hit the market, moving 338 units to start with.

The electric luxury D-crossover segment grew five percent to 114,025 units during Q2 2024.

The GM Authority Take

Cadillac Lyriq sales continue to show healthy gains here halfway into the year, marking another high for deliveries during Q2 2024 for the luxury marque’s first-ever EV. Nevertheless, all entries in the electric luxury D-crossover segment are still vastly overshadowed by the Tesla Model Y, accounting for 88 percent of sales this quarter.

A new entry to this space is the 2024 Acura ZDX electric crossover, which is based on GM Ultium EV technology. Acura’s first-ever EV debuted a year ago and is finally on sale. Compare pricing between the ZDX and Lyriq.

Other competitors are jumping in as well. The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S was unveiled as a 600-HP Lyriq rival. Cadillac’s answer is the Lyriq-V, which is expected to launch for the 2025 model year and will have more power than the Lyriq AWD.

From the Volkswagen Group, the 2025 Audi Q6 E-Tron debuted as a rival to the Lyriq and Lyriq-V, while the Audi Q8 E-Tron may be discontinued. Meanwhile, the 2024 Porsche Macan Electric was launched as a rival to the Lyriq-V.

Finally, the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 launched as a Lyriq rival, but sales of the EV crossover are combined with the ICE-based GV70, so it is not included in our Lyriq sales report at this time.

Additionally, two more models have debuted as Lyriq rivals: the 2024 Polestar 3 electric crossover and the 2024 Volvo EX90 all-electric flagship SUV.

For its part, GM is taking on the world with the Lyriq. In addition to the U.S., deliveries of the Lyriq continue in Canada and Mexico, and the automaker launched Cadillac’s all-electric luxury crossover in the Middle East, France, Germany, and South Korea, with Australia being next.

About Cadillac Lyriq

The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq arrives with several important changes and updates.

Among these is the introduction of the new Tech and Sport trim levels, with the Luxury trim level slotting between those. Furthermore, the 2024 Lyriq Luxury 3 and Sport 3 are now available with 20-inch wheels, plus a new 22-inch Gloss Black alloy wheel option is available for the entire trim lineup. Check out our feature comparison of these 2024 Lyriq trims: Luxury 2, Sport 2 vs. Luxury 3, Sport 3.

All three trim levels—Tech, Luxury, and Sport—are available in the U.S. with either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. Notably, the Tech trim doesn’t get the top 10 features.

The 2024 Lyriq is the first GM vehicle in North America to feature 5G network connectivity, standard on all trim levels. It also gets a new power panoramic dual-panel sunroof, a newly available Nappa Leather seating package, which is genuine leather made from calfskin or other types of soft cowhide, and a new trailer hitch.

Regardless of the trim level selected, the 2024 Lyriq maximum range-per-charge is 314 miles for rear-wheel-drive models, with motor output set at 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, and 307 miles for all-wheel-drive models, with motor output set at 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, the 2024 Lyriq AWD offers a new Velocity powertrain upgrade, boosting torque by 74 pound-feet, raising the peak rating from 450 to 524 pound-feet. GM asserts that the zero to 60 mph time improves from the standard AWD variant’s 4.7 seconds to 4.4.

The all-electric luxury crossover rides on the GM BEV3 platform and is motivated by GM Ultium batteries paired with GM Ultium Drive motors.

2025 Cadillac Lyriq production is scheduled to begin on September 9th.

  • Better compare is to the X, which sells way less volume. Y is tiny compared to Lyriq. In terms of legroom, Lyriq has more than X even. X is just weird shaped to squeeze the cargo volume up. Not sure how much of that quoted cargo space on the X is usable unless you are carrying liquid. X is also slightly more premium than Y which is where Lyriq sits. Not to mention you can't get leather in ANY muskmobile. Wheelbase on Lyriq is also 5" more than X which should give a smoother more premium ride.

  • Way to go Cadillac! Build a premium product that people want and you are set. The Optiq will solidify market share for the compact luxury EV segment soon.
Tesla sales will continue to shrink due to aging product and a controversial CEO that alienates potential buyers.

  • Sales are still quite low by historical GM standards. They are not a niche’ automaker and traditionally don’t keep things around that can’t generate higher volume than this. I know they’re willing to take losses on EVs and put all their traditional metrics aside for now but if this were an ICE product that’d been hyped as much as the Lyriq has, GM management would likely at suspending further development and planning to move on.

    • Correction:

…GM management would likely be looking at suspending further development and planning to move on.

    • Based on your standards, Cadillac should stop producing the CT4, CT5, XT4, XT5 and XT6.

You probably also complain Cadillac no longer produces the CT6.

      Logic!

    • Yes but being in this category, outselling the German options and the Lexus option is a big deal. Especially considering EVs at the time being are luxury products only upper middle class can afford. The last time Cadillac had a home run product was when the 2nd gen Escalade came out.

  • The Lyriq interior is beautiful and luxurious with that curved screen. Much nicer than the computer monitor velcroed to the dash look like the Model Y.

  • I cannot believe that GM Authority insists in classifying the Tesla Model Y as luxury. It is NOT A LUXURY EV! My Chevy Equinox has more luxury and interior space than the Y!
