Top 10 Features The Cadillac Lyriq Tech Doesn’t Get

The Cadillac Lyriq made its formal introduction for the 2023 model year as the luxury marque’s very first all-electric production vehicle. For the 2024 model year, Caddy introduced several important updates and changes, including the launch of a new entry-level trim dubbed the Cadillac Lyriq Tech. Ironically, there are several features available higher in the Lyriq range that are not offered by the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq Tech. Now, GM Authority is listing out the top 10 features the Cadillac Lyriq Tech doesn’t get.

The exterior of the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq Tech.

  1. GM Super Cruise: the Lyriq Tech does not offer GM’s semi-autonomous driver assist system, which could be an issue for those folks expecting cutting-edge technology.
  2. Active Noise Cancellation: EVs are typically very quiet in the cabin. However, the Cadillac Lyriq Tech is noisier than the rest of the trim levels due to the lack of Active Noise Cancellation.
  3. AKG Studio 19-speaker audio system: the Lyriq Tech is equipped as standard with a seven-speaker audio system, but audiophiles may want to step up to higher trims for the high-grade AKG system.
  4. Multi-color ambient lighting: adds a dash of custom flair to the interior.
  5. Heated steering wheel and ventilated seats: depending on where you live and the weather you experience, these could be dealbreakers.
  6. Front-seat massage: seems like a luxury item – until you don’t have it.
  7. Slimline LED headlights and taillamps with choreography: if you need to make a statement, upgraded exterior lighting is a must.
  8. Rainsense wipers: seems like a basic item for a modern vehicle, especially a luxury model.
  9. Black roof option: more styling options are available higher in the range.
  10. Hands-free power liftgate: another basic item that will likely be missed for those who don’t step up to a higher trim.

  1. Gm does this all the time . you think you are buying a cadillac but a chev comes with better features, that is one reason i left and bought a lincolin

    1. I’m generally opposed to buying a model that is available on a lesser nameplate, unless maybe it’s just a minor upgrade from say Chevy to Buick, and then I’ll compare the option levels and pricing. People who bought those Cimarron models back in the day just looked foolish.

But I don’t object to this particular trim offering, because most that stuff I either don’t need or actively don’t want.

  2. Correction to the editor, Leather is an option to Lux/Sport 3, not std. I think around 3K adder.

  3. Perhaps it should be called the Cadillac Lyriq LOW Tech. This kind of reminds me of the Calais Cadillac offered in the 1970s- basically a decontented DeVille vinyl seats and all.

  4. Of those features, only the wipers and active noise cancellation are features I would want, and I didn’t even know about ANC in cars before this!

I hate some of the other features, such as power lift gates, and as I noted recently, I’m not willing to pay for Super Cruise due to concerns about future fees.

But the most striking thing about the article is a black roof option? Is that for Alaska, where they might want the heating? I’ve seen white roof options, and those make some sense some places. But black? Stupid AF.

    1. But thats what Chevy and Buick are for. We shouldn’t to have to look across the coast or factory order a Cadillac to get features that come standard on non-luxury brands.

      1. I wish there were more flexibility in factory ordering, so that you didn’t have to get options X, Y and Z just because you want option A.

But my point was more that there are features I don’t want on a car, like a power lift gate. I’m not that lazy. And where I live you don’t need heated or cooled seats or steering wheels. Just worthless crap I don’t want to pay for.

        1. I see, you want the Cadillac badge. Fair enough.

          1. Actually, no. I want the best combination of features I actually want, at the best price. It complicates things, but GM tends to give you at least two sets of combination of features (e.g. Chevy and GMC pickups). Looking at the upscale brands tends to be a waste of time, because too many things I don’t want, but sometimes the difference isn’t all that great, or they have something I really want.

I actually hate badges. Some of the stainless steel crap Ford tacks onto the back of an F-150 would embarrass the hell out of me to own (e.g. King Ranch). I’d prefer my car not state the trim level, like Subaru somehow manages to do. My vehicles are not status symbols, they are utility devices.

  5. So basically it just shows that the promise of EVs getting cheaper is a “read between the lines” promise with the caveat of de-contenting the EV versions below levels compared to the ICE versions. It can be cheaper sure but with everything being optional and like I said before, less convenience associated with living with an EV. Rain sensing wipers should be standard in anything with a Cadillac badge. I guess in order to make EVs cheaper we can expect the return of crank operated windows. And then we wonder why more and more people are shunning EVs.

    1. This is more a ploy to get people into the Cadillac dealerships with the lure of a lower MSRP. Then the up-selling begins.

But in case you haven’t noticed, EVs in general have tended to be well optioned because of limited manufacturing capability (Bolt and Leaf being major exceptions). They want to produce versions that have higher profit margins since they are limited in how many they can produce. That is changing.

  6. I expect the Tech models will go away in the near future. When I see local Cadillac dealers online, most of them are Luxury/Sport 1-3 on the lots and hardly Tech.

I also expect Luxury/Sport 3 will be eliminated at some point and some if not all of its features and tech will be moved to Luxury/Sport 2 position in the future, same with Model 2 features move to Model 1 also since the IQ and OPTIQ only have Luxury/Sport 1 & 2 models currently. However, the ‘Slade IQ could gain a Platinum model above Model 2 trim perhaps.

The gas models will eliminate Luxury base models altogether so it makes sense to get rid of Tech since no one buys base Cadillacs anymore.

  7. De-contenting a luxury brand is suicide all in the name of reducing cost. It’s best not to build it rather than building it wrong.

    Reply
  8. Wait. So GM is overcharging on ICE models in order to subsidize EV production costs, and then de-contenting EVs? I guess the key to saving the world is ignoring science and just spending more . . .

Only here at GMA would it be called “ironic” that an entry level product is offered with a lower level of equipment.

    1. What’s ironic is the name, not the missing features. The trim level missing several tech options is called Tech.

  10. I was in sales for many years and what you are saying / describing is a basic sales tool. Build a stripped down model ( called a loss leader) to get a customer into the store. Once there you try to up sell the customer to a higher , more profitable model. It was a pretty basic model when I started in sales over 45 years ago and is still basically the same today.

  11. I’ve had several GM and a Kia that had rain sense wipers. Didn’t begin to work right in any of them.
I wish I could avoid that dangerous 5G standard with the 2024s.

    If I can’t disable it , that’s a hard deal breaker.
