Ford Motor Company is set to introduce the next generation of all-electric E-Transit vans in 2026 as part of its continuing push into the commercial electric vehicle space. The E-Transit competes with GM’s BrightDrop Zevo van lineup and has been a significant player in the commercial EV segment thus far. The current-generation E-Transit is produced at Ford’s Kansas City Assembly plant, while production of the next-gen model will shift to the company’s Ohio Assembly plant.
As reported by our sister publication, Ford Authority, The Blue Oval brand recently announced that the “rollout of Ford’s next generation of electric vehicles begins with a commercial van that will be assembled at Ford’s Ohio Assembly Plant starting in 2026”. Although FoMoCo did not specifically name the E-Transit in this announcement, the timing and context strongly suggest that the new van in question will be the second-generation E-Transit.
The automaker’s latest master contract agreement with the United Auto Workers (UAW) labor union further reinforces this assumption. The agreement outlines a product roadmap that includes an “all-new EV van” for production at the Ohio plant. Currently, the facility manufactures the ICE-based Super Duty and E-Series cutaway and chassis cab models.
Beyond the upcoming next-gen E-Transit, FoMoCo’s electrification efforts have seen several significant adjustments recently. The automaker recently delayed the launch of the next-generation F-150 EV to 2027 and canceled plans to introduce a series of all-electric three-row crossovers.
Nevertheless, the commercial space remains ripe for electrification, so FoMoCo will move forward with the new E-Transit. Despite fading demand in the retail segment, Ford CEO Jim Farley has noted that demand for EVs in the company’s Pro commercial division continues to show strength, particularly for the F-150 Lighting Pro and E-Transit models. Meanwhile, FoMoCo is aiming to launch a midsize all-electric pickup in 2027.
