Ford Motor Co. has announced another delay in the production of its next-generation all-electric F-150 EV, now slated for the latter half of 2027. This marks the second postponement for the next-gen Chevy Silverado EV rival, following an initial delay from 2025 to 2026 announced last April. According to the automaker, the decision to push back the launch date was initially driven by changing consumer demand and the automaker’s current focus on ramping up production of its hybrid models.
As reported by our sister publication, Ford Authority, the delay is also part of a broader strategy to address customer feedback and further refine the vehicle’s capabilities. The next-gen F-150 EV, code-named Project T3, promises to bring “features and experiences never seen on any Ford truck.” The current F-150 Lightning, which serves as the automaker’s flagship electric truck, already offers innovative features like bi-directional charging capabilities, allowing it to power a home during blackouts, as well as a highly efficient aerodynamic body.
Indeed, the EV market landscape is evolving rapidly amid declining battery prices and lower-than-expected consumer demand. The decision to delay the F-150 EV will also allow the automaker to refocus development of a new, more-affordable EV platform. This platform, which is unrelated to any existing all-electric architectures, could potentially be integrated into the next-gen F-150 EV, making it more accessible to a broader range of consumers.
Interestingly, there’s speculation that the next-gen F-150 EV may debut with a new name, potentially moving away from the F-150 Lightning moniker. Ford CEO Jim Farley has also teased that the upcoming truck will feature design elements that evoke “a Millennium Falcon with a porch attached,” and will offer “stunning performance” alongside a highly versatile cabin “that feels like a lounge or a tiny office.” Production of the next-gen electric pickup is expected to take place at Ford’s BlueOval City Tennessee Electric Vehicle Center.

I really hope GM’s next full size truck has a hybrid option.
And that it is not a joke with dubious benefits like their earlier attempts at selling fullsize truck high birds.
Not shocked by this move by Ford at all especially once it was learned they tore down a Cybertruck.
Farley has said that the upcoming Lighting will be revolutionary which will be great.
Since I am not a Ford fan, I hope that GM takes full advantage these next Two/Three years to lower the price point of the Silverado/Sierra EV Trucks so they gain a strong foothold in the Segment prior to the updated Lighting coming out.
GM better figure out how to take complete advantage of this news and a gift by Ford to be honest.
Also, GM better update the Silverado/Sierra EV’s by at the exact time the All New Ford Lighting will be coming out to steal some Thunder!!!
I’ve been saying this for the better part of a decade. Where are all those pro-EV fanatics that argued and labeled me!? They’ve all slinked into the shawdows and have been quite over the past 6-12 months as every automaker is course correcting.
