2024 Cadillac Lyriq V2H Capability Coming Later This Year

Turning an EV into a wheeled battery for emergency home power is the purpose of vehicle-to-home (V2H) bidirectional charging technology. GM plans to bring V2H tech to the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq sometime this year.

The General set a 2026 schedule for bringing V2H technology to its full Ultium-based EV lineup, with the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq earmarked as one of the five first models set to include vehicle-to-home capability.

The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq is currently available to consumers but does not yet offer V2H capability. The website of GM Energy, a fully-owned subsidiary of General Motors, says that this capability is “coming soon,” but provides no specific date.

Accordingly, GM Authority contacted General Motors to find out the latest news on these plans. Although a timeline hasn’t been confirmed, a Cadillac representative told us, “we will have more to share on V2H capability for current Lyriq owners later this year.”

GM Energy launched its V2H charging technology in April 2024, with the Chevy Silverado EV RST First Edition as the first compatible Ultium-based vehicle. The technology enables two-way flow of energy, able to charge the EV under ordinary circumstances, but feeding power back into the home during an outage when backup electricity is needed to run refrigerators and other essential appliances or systems.

The first home energy offerings from GM Energy include three bundles. These include the Ultium Home V2H with a bidirectional charger and home enablement kit, the Ultium Home Energy System with the same components plus a 5 kW or 7 kW GM Powerbank, and the Ultium Home Energy Storage with a Powerbank and inverter only.

2024 Cadillac Lyriq owners interested in these systems can compare their capabilities and prices to find the setup best suited to their needs. As a reminder, GM Ultium battery and GM Ultium Drive motor technologies provide motivation for the electric crossover. Its range varies by configuration, with rear-wheel drive Lyriq crossovers getting 314 miles of range and all-wheel drive units offering 307 miles of range on a full charge.

The GM BEV3 platform provides the bones for the Cadillac Lyriq, while production takes place at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.

  3. I really like my 2024 Lyriq AWD.. Comfortable, quiet and powerful. Great ride and handling. I’ve gone 13,000 miles in 7 months. Have had six 1,000 mile road trips made more enjoyable with massaging seats and Super Cruise with Automatic Lane Change. Pull through and covered EVgo charging stations at Flying J on road trips are excellent. Home charging is so convenient. Looking forward to Tesla adapter and vehicle to home capabilities.

  4. For anyone who has suffered an extended blackout (6 days for me) and has used a gas stove to keep a little heat in the house to avoid pipes freezing, V2H is THE feature. I have panels, which are utterly useless when they only work when tied to grid.

    1. Convert your panels to charge batteries using a controller. I recommend Bluetti since I have a 24 kWh 230 VAC system and I stopped paying my utility December 2023. I am waiting to buy and charge my first EV with free solar energy.
