Some 2024 Chevy Colorado Units Will Need A Transmission Control Valve Solenoid Bolt Adjustment

GM has issued a Service Update for certain units of the 2024 Chevy Colorado pickup truck that may have come from the factory with an improperly fastened transmission control valve solenoid bolt.

The Service Update, number N242446680, specifies a fix for affected 2024 Chevy Colorado trucks, which will be available until the end of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period for the individual pickup.

Dealers are instructed to identify affected units of the 2024 Chevy Colorado using a list of VINs provided by General Motors, as well as the Investigate Vehicle History screen accessed via the GM Global Warranty Management system. The fix must be applied to all affected Colorado trucks still in inventory, along with those brought in for service.

The issue results from the transmission valve body solenoid retaining bolt not being torqued correctly during production. The fix consists of torquing the solenoid retaining bolt to the correct specification. No components are needed, though up to 7.4 quarts of Dextron transmission fluid will need to be added to the transmission following the repair.

The number of units affected is currently unclear. However, it likely involves a small number of vehicles either still in transit or in dealer inventory.

Several changes were introduced to the Colorado for the 2024 model year. Among these was the GM Authority-predicted removal of the Desert Boss Special Edition (RPO code ZDB) and its replacement by the all-new Colorado ZR2 Bison Edition (RPO code ULV) package, which collects numerous trail-ready components, including heavy-duty bumpers and skid plates.

As a reminder, two different powerplants are available to power the 2024 Chevy Colorado, including the Turbo 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine developing 237 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, and the Turbo High-Output 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The mid-range Turbo Plus 2.7 I4 L3B gasoline engine was retired from the powerplant lineup for the 2024 model year.

  3. Is there any way that someone can check for themselves to see if their truck is affected by this service update?

Or do you have to go to a dealer?

Since this isn’t a recall, I assume you have to go to a dealer.
